Apple just dropped a bombshell. As the rumors correctly predicted, Apple will be bringing over-the-air iOS updates. And instead of having to plug your device into iTunes on a PC to initially register, you will be able to active an iDevice from the device itself- out of box.
OTA firmware updates and backups will be introduced in iOS 5, and you can now say that you've officially "cut the cord."
Wondering when all these new great features in iOS 5 will come to your iPhone? I hope you're not in a hurry because it's not going to be available until this fall. When is this exactly, we're not sure.

iMessages is a service that works for all iOS 5 users. It supports iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, and it allows you to send text, photos, videos, contacts to any of your friends, assuming they have an iOS device...
iOS 5 will have a new and improved version of Mobile Safari that sports tabbed browsing across all iDevices. Alongside that, Safari also has a new feature called "Reading List" that acts as an Instapaper or Read It Later replacement.
If you sign in on one device, your browsing information and tabs will be transferred across devices.
This is a very exciting new feature of iOS 5. It appears that the Camera app is getting quite a few improvements. First one of them is that you'll now be able to launch the Camera app from the lockscreen, with the addition of a new icon there. Additionally, you will be able to shoot the picture by pressing the volume buttons.
Another great feature brought to iOS 5 new camera app is the ability to edit pictures on the fly. We'll now be able to crop, reduce red eye effect, and a few other quick enhancements...
In the months leading up to Apple's WWDC event, push notifications seemed to be at the top of every iPhone user's wish lists for features to get revamped in iOS 5. In the last few weeks, we've seen a lot of evidence that Apple was looking to do just that.
Well the wait is over folks as Steve Jobs and company have taken the stage at WWDC to unveil the latest version of iOS, and once again Apple has not disappointed. Enter the new Notifications Center, which happens to look a lot like MobileNotifier...
New features are rolling in for iOS 5. This one is a new application developed directly by Apple, called Reminders. Just like the name suggests, Reminders is a to-do list application.
Besides letting you add to-dos to your list, Reminders will be location aware, and locations will be able to trigger events. For example, you can have a reminder set to say "remind me to call my wife as soon as I leave the office"...
As expected, Twitter is going to be a big part of iOS 5. Apple's goal was to make Twitter easier to use in iOS 5, and it seems that they're going to succeed. In iOS 5, Apple has added "Single Sign On," a feature that allows you to login to Twitter directly from your Settings app.
Also as expected, Twitter has been integrated into the Photo and Camera apps. From now on, you can send pictures directly to Twitter without having to launch an app, or rely on a jailbreak tweak. In addition, you can tweet from Safari, from YouTube, or from Maps...
The second big iOS 5 enhancement announced at the 2011 WWDC was none other than Newsstand -- a method to directly access magazines and newspaper content from your iPhone.
So all of your favorite magazines -- Elle, GQ, Esquire, etc. are available for immediate download and will reside in a folder that looks like, well, a newsstand on your iPhone's Home screen.
Subscriptions will play a role in newsstand to seamlessly deliver your content right to the comforts of your iPhone.
New issues of all of your favorite reading material will be downloaded in the background and available for reading later, even offline...
Scott Forstall just dropped the numbers on the success of Apple's iOS. Needless to say, the results are pretty impressive.
iOS owns 44% of the market, with over 200 million devices registered. If 10% of iOS devices are jailbroken, that means 20 million jailbroken devices! More info after the break!

A secret banner was spotted at WWDC this morning by Greg Kumparak of TechCrunch. What could be hiding behind this banner? A new logo for iOS? Or maybe some new hardware to go along with the new iOS 5?
Ok, to be honest, I think there will be a new iPhone today. Let my imagination go wild here for a bit. I think the new iPhone is going to look exactly like the iPhone 4, with obviously more power under the hood. I think Steve Jobs is going to make his presentation using this new iPhone 5, and at the end of the keynote, he's going to say: "one more thing, you've watched me do this whole presentation on our new iPhone 5"...
