The Best Twitter App for iPhone

There are hundreds of Twitter apps for iPhone in the App Store but after weeding out those with useless features, bad UI and the such, it basically comes down to a handful of applications that deserve our attention.

I’ve been asking people on Twitter what’s their favorite iPhone Twitter app and I’ve been keeping track of the results. I’ve also had a close look at these 2 polls to come up with what I think is the ultimate list of the best iPhone apps for Twitter.

Of course we all have our favorites (mine is Tweetie 2), but we have to agree that the following apps are “la creme de la creme” of Twitter clients on the iPhone. For each application, I will also highlight what YOU like about them, according to my survey on Twitter.

Tweetie 2

The big winner is of course Tweetie 2 [iTunes Link]. Rewritten from the ground up with a fast and powerful new core, Tweetie 2 offers the most polished mobile Twitter experience around. As I said above, Tweetie 2 is my favorite application for Twitter on the iPhone, and according to the results, it is also your favorite.

This is why you love Tweetie 2:

  • multiple accounts
  • the user interface is clean and elegant
  • it is fast
  • very functional and easy
  • it is stable
  • you can edit your Twitter profile right from the app
  • list integration

Check out the list of all Tweetie features. Tweetie 2 is available for download from the App Store for $2.99. Way worth your money!

Twitterrific

I haven’t used Twitterrific [iTunes Link] in a long time and I remember I stopped using it because I thought the UI was too cluttered. Apparently, many of you like it because it ranks #2 on the list of the best iPhone Twitter clients.

You really like Twitterrific for:

  • its sexy UI
  • the ease of use
  • the view of conversation threads between users
  • the customizable visual themes & layout styles

Twitterric has many more features and it is available from the App Store for $2.99.

Echofon (formerly TwitterFon)

Echofon [iTunes Link] is probably my second favorite Twitter app for the iPhone, although it’s one of the most expensive. I just think it is very fast, easy and the UI is amazing.

Your favorite Echofon features are:

  • it is a very simple and functional application
  • it has a clean and tidy UI
  • it offers push notifications
  • easy upload of pictures to Flickr

Read this for more information about Echofon, or download it from the App Store for $4.99.

TweetDeck

TweetDeck [iTunes Link] is the first free iPhone Twitter app to make it on the list. If you like the desktop version of TweetDeck, then you’ll love the iPhone app. It’s a good app, but if you’re a power user, you’ll need something a bit more “solid”.

TweetDeck is a favorite because:

  • it syncs with your existing TweetDeck columns
  • it is simple and fast
  • you can have groups
  • you can use columns to create multiple screens

TweetDeck has more features than that and it can be downloaded for free from the App Store.

Twittelator Pro

I have never used Twittelator Pro [iTunes Link] so I can’t really tell about it but you seem to like this iPhone app for Twitter has it shows up #5 on our list.

You like Twittelator Pro for:

  • the clean user interface
  • the thumbnail previews
  • the ability to customize the app (backgrounds, fonts, icons ,etc…)
  • the simple ease of use

Twittelator Pro doesn’t come for cheap as it is available from the App Store for $4.99.

Honorable Mentions

The following applications didn’t make it in the top 5 best Twitter clients for iPhone but it is worth noting they are in your favorites too.

  • qTweeter – a jailbreak app
  • TwitBird Pro
  • SimplyTweet
  • TwitBit
  • BirdFeed
  • Twitterena
