T-Mobile releases new ‘T-Mobile TV’ app for iPhone

T-Mobile this week has quietly released a new app for iPhone owners called T-Mobile TV. As the name suggests, the app provides access to the carrier's subscription-based streaming service that offers live and on-demand content.

The service has been around for quite some time now, with an Android version of the mobile app landing in 2010. And it includes a range of programming, including sports, news, and kid channels like Disney and Nickelodeon...

T-Mobile CEO says don’t hold your breath for a MetroPCS iPhone

T-Mobile and MetroPCS completed their merger yesterday, combining the 4th and 5th largest carriers in the United States. And we figured this would be good news for the latter company's 9M+ subscribers, as they'd finally get a shot at the iPhone.

But not so fast, says T-Mobile's John Legere. Speaking with tech blog AllThingsD, the CEO said that while he thinks it's possible that MetroPCS might be able to offer the popular device at some point, there are currently no immediate plans to do so...

T-Mobile completes MetroPCS deal, adds 9 million subscribers

It's official. After passing all necessary regulatory approvals last month, T-Mobile and MetroPCS have officially completed their merger. The Deutsche Telekom-owned carrier made an announcement on the company blog this morning.

The deal, which has been in the works since last fall, combines the United States' fourth and fifth largest wireless carriers, which combine for a total of 43 million subscribers. The new entity is now trading on Wall Street under TMUS...

T-Mobile’s iPhone carrier update is out with support for LTE and Visual Voicemail [updated]

Following up its iPhone 5 pre-order earlier today, T-Mobile has begun rolling out a carrier update to unlocked iPhone customers on its network. The carrier is preparing to officially launch the popular handset next Friday.

We'd heard last week that the OTA (or over the air) update was going to include Visual Voicemail support and LTE support for compatible devices. But it looks like there's more to it then that. Keep reading for the full details...

T-Mobile’s LTE network spotted in New York City

This is kind of interesting. T-Mobile's long-awaited LTE network has been spotted in the wild, offering up super-fast data in a suburb of New York City. The carrier is the only one left of the major four in the US that doesn't offer the 4G tech, but it's expected to finally launch this year. And a curious subscriber just discovered one of its sites in Astoria, Queens...

US prepaid carrier Solavei now selling iPhone 5-friendly nano SIMs

Hot on the heals of this morning's news that the iPhone 5 would be landing on Strata Networks soon, comes word that the popular handset can also now be used with Solavei, a US-based prepaid provider.

The carrier sent out a press release this afternoon announcing that it has begun offering nano Sim cards, meaning  you can now hook up Apple's latest handset to its $49/month unlimited everything plan...

AT&T attacks T-Mobile in newspaper ad ahead of expected service changes

Back in January, T-Mobile (USA) CEO John Leger called AT&T's network "crap" during the carrier's CES keynote, rhetorically asking the audience "Does anyone use AT&T in New York City? Is anyone satisfied with their service?"

AT&T didn't take too kindly to Leger's comments, and now, 2 months later, it has fired back with a new print ad that started hitting The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and several other major publications yesterday...

Ahead of iPhone launch, T-Mobile launches GoSmart prepaid brand nationwide

Ahead of the official iPhone launch on its network later this year, the nation's fourth-largest carrier T-Mobile USA on Tuesday said a new GoSmart prepaid service is now available via some 3,000 reseller stores nationwide. According to Reuters, users can purchase a SIM kit and simply bring their own GSM device to the service. Unlimited voice and messaging costs $30 a month.

For an additional five bucks, you get to browse the web. A $45 plan with five gigabytes of 3G data is also available. These are all month-to-month plans, meaning you can cancel the service anytime without getting penalized...

Carriers watching closely as T-Mobile preps to offer iPhone on monthly installments

T-Mobile will officially sell the iconic iPhone in three to four months and when it does, the Deutsche Telekom-owned wireless carrier, the fourth-largest in the United States, will be offering Apple's handset on monthly installments. The struggling telco won't have to bet the farm by spending billions in upfront iPhone subsidy to Apple and would-be customers will get more bang for their buck in terms of voice and data.

It should be a win-win. Matter of fact, T-Mobile USA's strategy is "very intriguing" to Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam and AT&T boss Randall Stephenson applauds the idea and says that's something his company is "going to be watching" going forward.

Should the T-Mobile experiment pays off, it's entirely conceivable that the US market could finally catch up with the rest of the world by offering non-subsidized hardware and instead focus on more affordable wireless services...

Why T-Mobile is the right fit for the $99 iPhone mini

With both The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg now reporting that Apple is considering a less-pricey iPhone for emerging markets with the unsubsidized price starting as low as $99, the question is arising which of the top wireless carriers will get the honors of launching the handset here in the U.S. And if by its very nature Apple's upcoming new iPhone is targeted at the low-end where people are unwilling to buy heavily subsidized devices with long-term contracts, shouldn't T-Mobile be the most logical launch partner?

T-Mobile closes 2012 by bringing iPhone-friendly HSPA+ to 14 new cities

Not to be outdone by rival Verizon and AT&T which rolled out their fourth-generation Long-Term Evolution (LTE) networks to 29 and five new U.S. cities this week, respectively, T-Mobile USA today announced that its iPhone-friendly HSPA+ service on the 1900MHz band is launching in fourteen new metropolitan areas.

The carrier says these markets can take advantage of voice and data enhancements, improved signal strength and in-building coverage. The $4 billion network modernization plan announced ten months ago already enhanced coverage for more than a hundred million people, T-Mobile said...

T-Mobile’s iPhone-friendly HSPA+ network now covers 100 million people

With its now-confirmed 2013 iPhone launch looming, T-Mobile continues its aggressive rollout of its HSPA+ network today with launches in Chicago, Illinois, Reno, Nevada, and Sacramento, California, along with enhancements in other areas.

Just last Monday, the carrier activated the iPhone-friendly network in several major cities including Atlanta, Seattle and Minneapolis. And with the new areas added today, that network now covers more than 100 million users throughout the US...
