Apple today released iOS 11.2.1, a small bug-fix update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

The software basically restores remote access to HomeKit accessories in the Home app for shared users, that’s all. The same issue was also fixed for owners of the fourth-generation Apple TV and Apple TV 4K with the follow-up release of tvOS 11.2.1.

According to release notes, iOS 11.2.1 fixed an issue that could disable remote access to shared users of the Home app. The company provided detailed information on the security content of iOS 11.2.1 via a support document on its website.

As discovered by 9to5Mac a few days ago, Apple’s HomeKit platform for smart home accessories was plagued with a major vulnerability which allowed unauthorized access to HomeKit devices like smart locks. The company immediately fixed the bug server-side while also disabling remote access for shared HomeKit users as a security precaution.

“The issue affecting HomeKit users running iOS 11.2 has been fixed,” an Apple spokesperson told the publication. “The fix temporarily disables remote access to shared users, which will be restored in a software update early next week.

With iOS 11.2.1 released, Apple has now reinstated that functionality.

I’m not going to complain about bug fixes, but man those updates are frequent as hell lately.

    • The more they push updates, the more bugs will appear!

I’m on dev and don’t see this update ??‍♂️

No way I’m staying on ios 11.1.2. Waiting for a possible jailbreak.

“You can download iOS 11.2.1 from iDownloadBlog’s Download page” – No you can’t, it’s not there. And 11.2 wasn’t even there until a few days ago.

  • 1 question…. speaking of downgrade, im at 11.1.1 and i have my shsh saved of 10.3.1 theres a way to downgrade with my blobs saved from that ios ??? ios 11 is too laggy for my 6s and honestly i dont like ios 11, theres a way to downgrade to my saved blobs ?? thanks 😉

Just upgraded my Apple TV 4 to tvOS 11.2.1 hoping that the HomeKit issue would have been fixed (meaning that I would regain remote access to HomeKit).

But it did not solve the issue for my 10.3.3 devices – these devices still do not have remote access – they only have access on local network. 🙁

Does Apple still have to disable the server side fix they did last week?

Or has Apple left the older idevices (iPhones and iPads still running iOS10.3.x) in the dark?

My Homekit & Siri used to work perfectly with Philips Hue lightning on iOS 10.3.3 (ip7). But after updating to ios 11.1.2 my Hue 2.0 bridge won’t connect to Homekit anymore. Controlling my lights within the Hue app works fine. But no connection to Homekit means I’m not able to use Siri to control my lights ;( Tried everyting in the book but no luck. Curious if iOS 11.2.1 actually fixed the problem of connecting the bridge to Homekit or just fixed the security bug allowing other to access. I don’t want to upgrade because of a possible future jailbreak on iOS 11.1.2 Let me know if updating helped fixing the remote acces to Homekit.

Does anyone know on which iOS version the bug was introduced? Does iOS 11.1.1 have it?

I’m wondering the same thing. Now I’m on iOS 11.1.2. but no Homekit connection. It’s a bummer, but I’m willing to give that up for a future jailbreak. Apple is still signing iOS 11.1.1 but for how long??

        Are you sure?
Before I upgrated my Apple TV to 11.2 (and then 11.2.1) remote access to HomeKit was all working perpectly.
I was thinking of rolling back to 11.1.2 but if you tell me that it’s not working anymore then I’m puzzeled.

Downgraded from iOS 11.1.2 to 11.1.1 but itcomes with the same bug. Afer rebooting my bridge and phone I was able to get Homekit working for a short while with iCloud turned off. But as soon as I turned on iCloud Homekit stopped working. Luckily I was in time last night to upgrade back to iOS 11.1.2 before Apple stopped signing both firmwares.

Dang, I was hoping to jump into HomeKit this winter while having a jailbreak.
