iPhone 7 Home button MobiPicker 002

Cowen and Company analysts have corroborated an unconfirmed story which two days ago reiterated prior reports that the next iPhone would sport a Home button with haptic feedback to simulate a click, using the same approach as Force Touch on the Apple Watch.

Citing “field checks” to back up its research and projections, the analysts were quoted by Business Insider as saying that this new Home button will sit flush with the rest of the iPhone 7. They also expect the device will lack a headphone jack and will be waterproof, as previous rumors have suggested.

The notion of an all-digital Home button that would sit flush with the front face of the phone was illustrated earlier this month by a blurry leaked picture that was published by MobiPicker.

DigiTimes was first out of the gate with a story back in April 2016 claiming that the iPhone 7 would come outfitted with a touch-sensitive Home button and use various tapping gestures to simulate different button presses, like invoking the app switcher, Reachability and more.

Analysts with no insider information corroborate a rumor based on “field checks”…just checked my calendar to make sure it wasn’t April 1st.

I like the idea, but man will this be hard to get used to.

    • Moltakfire

Why? It would feel really similar to the existing click. Just that your finger wouldn’t have that same feeling of pushing inwards.

Will you be able to feel where the ‘button’ is with your finger and not looking?

      • Moltakfire

You know where the button is anyway. If you were asked to close your eyes, pick up your phone and place your finger on the home button, you’d do it instantly.

      • redrum

Yes I know where it is but will I be able to ‘feel’ it and know where it is without looking?

      • CaptainHappy

I would think so. I’d imagine that the capacitive ring for touchID will give it a slight edge.

So it would work like the Virtual home tweak then I’m guessing? Because that would be awesome.

I don’t like it, but I’m sure  will make me like it

This is the main thing getting me excited about the iPhone 7 so far. I love the Virtual Home tweak, and anyone that has used it will agree there is no need for a physical button. Anyone that hasn’t used Virtual Home, you’re in for a treat if this new iPhone works in a similar way.
