App Admin (formerly App Control) is a jailbreak tweak that allows you to easily downgrade App Store apps on iOS. The tweak, which is still in beta, was met with positive response after it was released several days ago.

After a few updates, App Admin is really starting to come into its own. Not only has it been blessed with new downgrade-centric features, but it also works on devices running older versions of iOS.

The newest version of App Admin, version 1.0r-18, features the addition of a new option for quickly downgrading the previous version of an app. Other changes include iOS 7 support, and of course the rename from App Control to App Admin.

App Admin changelog

The new option to downgrade to a previous version is of particular note, because this makes it possible to quickly get back to a previous version of an app in the event that an update breaks functionality.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that there are lots more versions being displayed for many of the more popular apps. That’s due to the fact that more people are using App Admin, which updates the database with older version numbers that everyone can benefit from.

App Admin is one of the best jailbreak tweaks that we’ve seen in quite some time, and it’s definitely worth checking out. If you’d like to try the beta, simply click here from your jailbroken iPhone.

  • I can see this being very useful for those times a developer botches an update that you’ve downloaded. You’d normally have to wait days for Apple to review the bug fix. Now we can just downgrade to before the botched update.

Will this work on iOS 8.x?

    • Lucus Bendzsa

If it works on 7.x do the math

I couldn’t do it! Weiner stuck in blender! >.< sonofa

      • :D

Could be just 7.x and 9.x
Nothing to say it works on 8.x for sure without someone confirming it – could be that the dev needed a phone on iOS 8 but didn’t have one
        You never know

Okay, now I’m ready to Jailbreak again. It’s stuff like this I just Jailbreak for, not for some weekly release of some app switcher tweak that doesn’t even iPad compatibility or some theme that never makes it past the 1.0.X release.

Hmmm…many of the apps that I update is because they quit working and the author forced me into an update. When going to the app store and accepting to install the last known compatible version, I’m usually left with an app that doesn’t work again. I’m not seeing a big benefit of going backwards with a tweak like this. Can someone explain?

This will be a must have tweak

Only works when you have an update of apps , if not you can’t downgrade…

Will this ever work on iOS6? If it will, I will donate big time! I want to downgrade some apps but I simply can’t.

There’s a workaround to get older versions of apps, but you would need a separate jailbroken device with an iOS version that is from 7 through 8.2. You would need to download App Admin and downgrade your apps with that device (using the same iTunes account with both devices), transfer the IPA files to your computer through iTools (or iTunes), and then install those IPA files to your iOS 6.1 device (or anything else, really). With this method your iOS 6.1 device doesn’t even necessarily need to be jailbroken.
