Data Perks

AT&T today introduced Data Perks, a program that allows qualifying customers to earn extra data for free by taking surveys, completing offers, and making purchases at partner websites.

The concept is simple, and to be honest, not so original. Using the free Data Perks app, you can accumulate data by giving time, attention, and sometimes money to a selection of partners. You can for example watch promo videos, attend online demos for products, sign up for free trials for services such as Gamefly, make purchases at partner websites, and more.

For each action you accomplish, you earn data that can then be transferred to your account and added to your data plan. Having tried the app myself, I can tell it is completely legit, but you’re going to have to spend an awful lot of time signing up for things if you want to earn a notable amount of data.

On the flip side, if you need to make purchases at select partner websites such as Home Depot, then it could be a good way to earn free data quickly without too much hassle.

Once you have accumulated enough data, you can transfer it to your account, up to 1,000 MB per billing cycle. Once transferred, this data will have to be used before the end of the billing cycle, or it will expire.

Signing up for the service gives you 25MB of free data right off the bat. After that, you’ll have to work your way to more data, which in many cases doesn’t take much more than signing up for something. Is it worth your time? You tell me. I know it’s not worth mine, but your mileage may vary.

Data Perks is available to all AT&T customers, except business customers, and those on a pre-paid plan.

I can’t wait til Legere responds to this.

    • pnh

5GB free T-Mobile data to anyone who washes and waxes Legere’s car.

  • JulianZH

Useless if the data expire and not permanent.

  • iBanks

But yet no mention of the go90 app promo I tipped you guys on for VZW customers where they can get 2gigs of free data. But hey…

    • Digitalfeind

      You need a tissue??

      • Lol

      • iBanks

        Yup! Email it to me.

      • Digitalfeind

Let me complete an offer first. I need to get some tissues.

I could see this having value for someone w/o an unlimited plan. The “deals” involve things one might do anyway: shopping at the drugstore, buying home hardware, going to the movies. This lets one build up a bank of data and fire it up when one needs it.

I’m going to send flowers to my mother on her birthday and for Mothers Day. Why not pick up a third of a gig of data while I’m at it?

  • Rob

Just don’t use your data to watch those videos…kinda defeats the purpose.

    • iByron

Watch the videos on wifi. It still counts.

  • iPhoneWINS

I have unlimited / 22 gigs of data per month so i don’t need this BS

    • Austin

      unlimited ftw

    • 10marcer

same here. Anyone else waiting for them to increase it to $50 like Verizon did?

  • Someone

Those data are so small that it’s pointless to obtain

Desperate move they lost 500k+ subscribers in the latest quarter earnings report…

  • Jp27

The Alibaba owned platform Taobao, already offers this service in China, but instead, they give you data in return for some sort of ad engagement

  • Blip dude

    Yeah, sure!!!

  • singhay559

I feel sorry for those who is actually doing this just for data. Im unthrotled and unlimited.

  • George

How about we stop screwing over the customers? That’s a better idea.
