AT&T wants to give you more data in exchange for your time and attention

Data Perks

AT&T today introduced Data Perks, a program that allows qualifying customers to earn extra data for free by taking surveys, completing offers, and making purchases at partner websites.

The concept is simple, and to be honest, not so original. Using the free Data Perks app, you can accumulate data by giving time, attention, and sometimes money to a selection of partners. You can for example watch promo videos, attend online demos for products, sign up for free trials for services such as Gamefly, make purchases at partner websites, and more.

For each action you accomplish, you earn data that can then be transferred to your account and added to your data plan. Having tried the app myself, I can tell it is completely legit, but you’re going to have to spend an awful lot of time signing up for things if you want to earn a notable amount of data.

On the flip side, if you need to make purchases at select partner websites such as Home Depot, then it could be a good way to earn free data quickly without too much hassle.

Once you have accumulated enough data, you can transfer it to your account, up to 1,000 MB per billing cycle. Once transferred, this data will have to be used before the end of the billing cycle, or it will expire.

Signing up for the service gives you 25MB of free data right off the bat. After that, you’ll have to work your way to more data, which in many cases doesn’t take much more than signing up for something. Is it worth your time? You tell me. I know it’s not worth mine, but your mileage may vary.

Data Perks is available to all AT&T customers, except business customers, and those on a pre-paid plan.
