Lots of new tidbits of information is beginning to surface regarding a potential jailbreak for iOS 8.3 and iOS 8.4, and the future of jailbreaking with iOS 9, which will presumably be released in beta form after the WWDC keynote on Monday, June 8th, 2015.

iDigitalTimes’ Cammy Harbison’s interview with TaiG member Ray Xie, revealed that the TaiG team is setting its sights on iOS 9 with regard to future jailbreaks. Not long after that interview went live, news began to leak out that Pangu, the other Chinese team responsible for some of the more recent jailbreaks, was preparing a jailbreak release for iOS 8.3 right after the release of iOS 8.4.

So what’s to make of all of this? Will we actually see an iOS 8.3 jailbreak released publicly? Will we have to wait until iOS 9 officially launches before another jailbreak surfaces? There’s no way to be 100% sure about any of this, especially with the rumored implementation of the so-called rootless security mechanism. But one thing is clear, the interest in jailbreaking—at least from a hacker perspective—is still strong.

The website Tools4Hack released a report earlier today stating that the iOS 8.3 jailbreak was demonstrated by Pangu at the 2015 Mobile Security Conference (MOSEC) in Shanghai, which Pangu played co-host to. Although we have no way of independently confirming the validity of such a report, Harbison’s own investigative work lends some credence to the possibility of both an iOS 8.3 and iOS 8.4 jailbreak.

So what can we gather from this? Amidst the confusion, there seems to be some definite smoke around the two most prominent hacking teams in the jailbreak community at present. One, TaiG, says that they are focusing on iOS 9, and the other, Pangu, is apparently claiming that iOS 8.3 is still very much in play as a potential jailbreak recipient.

You may want to take some of this with a grain of salt, since we haven’t heard anything directly from the horses mouth, but it’s much more hope than we had prior to today, and hope is good.

What do you think will happen?

  • Eikast

I would love for a jailbreak. I wonder if such a jailbreak would lead to more answers on how to jailbreak the Apple watch

    • gayfortimcock

My biggest hope is to get a super fast smooth iOS 9 , if I get this then f@&k the jailbreak , sure I’ll miss the free apps and iaps

      • Bugs Bunnay

        that’s what apple won’t do.

      • Anthony

Don’t you mean you’ll miss the tweaks and themes?

      • gayfortimcock

        Some tweaks , never themes

      • Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. Must be another kid that thinks jailbreaking is only for piracy, which is sad.

      • Anthony

I think he totally misunderstood what I was saying.

      • gayfortimcock

How can you missunderstand that ?!

      • gayfortimcock

I’m not a kid ( can’t prove it tho ) but you know that not all people can afford entertainment , I can barly afford food , what now ? Just because I’m poor I can’t have fun ? Yeah go ahead and act like you know it all

      • Gonçalo Correia

you should evaluate your definition of poor. iphone and internet… I feel so (NOT) sorry for you.

      • Michael Sweeney

        And grammar.

      • Antzboogie

I agree with you on that part though if you don’t have money then yeah I agree.

      • Antzboogie

Exactly Tweaks and Themes but some people like this fool use the Jailbreak for idiotic purposes.

      • Antzboogie

That’s not what Jailbreaking is for so the Jailbreak community doesn’t need people like you and without a Jailbreak the iPhone would be very boring and closed off. Apple has copied almost every Jailbreak tweak I’ve seen and adds them slowly each year like its something new. Not a good look. Without a Jailbreak I would be leaving Apple I’m sorry.

  • I’m not sure what to tell, they are very secretive. It could drop anytime though, based on the individual team’s pasts. I think we could see an 8.3/8.4 JB drop after the latter is released, depending on exploits for iOS 9 that might or might not work.

  • mrgerbik

Please please please please please please please please please please

  • Gabriel Anaya

Hopeful that they release after 8.4 drops and that it will be compatible with 8.4, not just 8.3.
Hopefully apple releases 8.4 by or on WWDC. I remember they released 8.2 on the same day the big apple watch conference

  • Varun Soi

I wish there’s a jalbreak coming for ios 8.3 or 8.4, because I’m waiting from so long 🙁

    • Can’t be that long, we have waited months upon months for some jailbreaks. This is like a mini vacation to most.

      • Varun Soi

These months feel like years when you don’t have cydia in your phone those awesome tweaks which makes your phone damn good to use!

  • Chris

Hopefully they release an iOS 8.3/8.4 jailbreak during WWDC. *crossing fingers*

  • throttle clutch e brake

I’ll love a 8.3 jailbreak. I just downgraded to device that has the latest iOS on it 🙁

  • john diaz

Almost every feature apple adds to their iPhones come from the jailbreak community. jailbreaking won’t/cannot/will not stop!

    • Elias Chao

Did you know “will not” = “won’t”? ;p

      • john diaz

Wow you are a very smart person are you currently attending Harvard University.

      • Elias Chao

Don’t get mad, dude. I’m just joking around :)(:

      • john diaz

Me too bro just kidding 😀

      • gayfortimcock

You can’t make a joke out of a joke , it makes look like you didn’t get it , bad use of sarcasm is what you did.
But still people need humor even if it’s not humor

      • john diaz

        Ok “gayfortimcock” your also smart.

      • gayfortimcock

Seriously , people like you make scarcasm lame like dad jokes

      • john diaz

You should try out a spelling bee contest you have great spelling skills and grammar. good “job” scarcasm dad jokes.

      • gayfortimcock

Given that English is my third language , I’m doing well

    • Eni

I’ve seen features add from google to android M that came from jailbreak community as well actually, i think this community is contributing to many things.

      • Hot12345

        Dont lie, you lie now..

    • Antzboogie

Agreed they copy every Jailbreak tweak and act like its a breakthrough lol.

  • Onaje Perry

C’mon jb team and apple!! It’s been too long!! I’m dying without swipe selection!!

    • al7oot

Also iFile, Safari Downloader+, Activator, InTube, AdBlocker, Attachments+ for Mail and My3G

      • Onaje Perry

It’s been so long I can’t even Remember my favorite tweaks!!

      • al7oot

These like “Must Have” tweaks on your iPhone

      • gayfortimcock

My must have are : appsync , iapcrazy , movie box , music box ..

      • Kr00

So basically you just want a jailbreak so you can pirate apps. Such a humanitarian.

    • Antzboogie

Swipeselection is one of my favorite tweaks very good choice!!

    • That’s the tweak I miss the most too! Apple really needs to add it to iOS.

  • Onaje Perry

Apple should just work with jb devs on adding the tweaks that’s we love! Then there would be no need for jailbreaking.

    • Ozan ozkan

Extremely well said… I logged in just to like this comment!

      • gayfortimcock

I created an account just to say : REALLY?

      • john diaz

    • JaeM1llz

Considering most of the best tweaks require root access, that will never happen.

      • jamster440

If apple worked with them they wouldn’t need root access they would merge it with iOS on apples terms, youd get the tweaks and the security.

    • john diaz

I think they do work with them they just don’t do it publicly you know they want to take credit for everything.

  • M_Hawke

This is interesting/fun/great news! And best of all, it is news that has nothing to do with the watch! 😉

    • Ramone

So it’s not just me! I am so tired of g_ddamn Apple Watch features on every Apple site.

  • hhumbert

    Need moar jailbreak.

    • Rares

      meh to, ei cry evrytim

  • votdfak

Happy with 8.1 JB’d. Can’t stand iOS wo JB. Crippled.

    • Antzboogie

Me too it’s too plain and restricted.

  • yeskia

If true, then thank you Dev’s !

  • i want my jailbreak noww!

    • Antzboogie

      Lol me too!!

  • berkay

been waiting for jailbreak for almost 5 months. can’t wait to install complete iOS 6 theme on my jailbroken iPhone

  • Mr_Coldharbour

Nothing is certain of course. However, I’d say it’s more probable that Pangu will release an iOS 8.3/8.4 compatible jailbreak once the public 8.4 drops, or at least the after its released.

  • Eni

Google needs jailbreak too, it added so many jailbreak tweaks to it’s new android M lol

  • Martynet

What would be the no.1 reason (tweak) to jailbreak these days?

    • Wilfred Lim

      still plenty…in fact a lot…
ability to open up possibility is always fascinating…

    • lemonhead

      hmm tough one…
for me AdBlocker, but lots of people would probably go with f.lux 🙂

    • Lucus Bendzsa

      Auto 3

    • Mr_Coldharbour

Activator, for me at least. Without it, iOS (even jailbroken) feels severely hindered.

    • Ramone

Stock iOS is still way to locked down. Essential tweaks: Activator, iFile, Springtomize 3, Aria. Equalizer Everywhere, iCleaner, f.lux, Folder Enhancer, Nitrous, MultiIcon Mover+, InTube 8, DiskPie, Icon Renamer, Minimal Hosts Blocker, Photo Organizer 8…these are some of the essentials I rely on to free my device from the Apple prison.

      • Niclas

No need for Nitrous in IOS8.

    • votdfak

      VirtualHome for me.

    • Chocolatewe

      tage and f.lux

  • Mark S

Nice to see an article about jailbreaking phones for a change instead of all this watch crap.

  • Manuel Molina

I’m sitting at 8.1 and would like to restore to get to 8.3 or higher and fix some system files. A 8.3/4 released JB would be very useful.

  • therealjjohnson

If a 8.3 or 8.4 jailbreaks drops I’ll do it. Then 9.0 will drop and it will be a feature in it I really like and I’ll go to it. It’s taking so long for jailbreaks that I’m used to using my phone without them. If it comes cool. If not…ehh.

    • throttle clutch e brake

I hear you. The new OS is always speedier than predecessor is what I come to realize. On top of that, secruity is sharper too on late iOS. Holding off is great, but certainly to a sharp degree. C’mon, who in their right mind couldn’t find jailbreaking for useful tweaks convenience?

  • Michael Perry

what would be awesome is to make support for a few ios 9 betas so developers can give support once the jailbreak is out for ios 9

  • rockdude094

Just lost my jailbreak yesterday b/c of the sms bug.. Honestly the saddest way to lose a jailbreak. Happy to hear about all the future progress on jail breaking, can’t wait to jailbreak again.

  • Mr.Adam

I’m still on 8.1.2 jailbroken on my 6. I really like to be able to customize things and have my themes but for the past couple of days or so I’ve put my phone into safe mode and I’m enjoying it quite a bit as stock. It’s performance is more crispy and it holds a few more apps in memory longer but the home screen is hideous!!! So I get to have the best of both worlds right now. When I can’t stand looking at those stock icons I turn off safe mode and fire up elite 8! I also can’t live without f.lux. It saves my eyes at night. I also really love the tweak BatteryLife so I can see exactly when my phone is truly fully charged. I’m excited for the 8.3 jailbreak though and I will upgrade right away and enjoy stock for awhile and love that feeling that I could jailbreak at anytime but I don’t have to just yet! 🙂

    • rockdude094

Enjoy it while you can. Jailbreaking makes iPhone worth it.

    • socrates

In the middle of changing my password, something went wrong and I was locked out of my jailbroken i6, 8.1.2. Had to upgrade to 8.2 and I’ve been there since.
I’ve adapted, but every once in a while I’ll try to gesture using SwipeSelection, or Auxo, and my i6 is the only device in my house without f.lux. It’s disappointing.

      • regkilla

        Isn’t iOS 8.2 jailbreakable?

      • Chris

        Only the beta was.

  • Sure hope it comes out soon

  • MrJohnBlaze

My phone hasn’t been jailbroken since November & i don’t really miss it from a functionality point i do miss eye candy features life themes round icons customizing the lock screen and toggles but i can live without another jailbreak i hated random resprings to safemode

  • Aaron Mompó López

hi , can anyone tell me when’s gonna be published the ios 8.4 update ? thx

    • Chris

      Most likely during WWDC

      • Aaron Mompó López

soo will be published during this netx week?

  • KarwanGhaffari

    amazing things is a jailbreak>

  • Gabriel Diaz

Had to get a new iPhone because mine broke and now I’m jailbreakless on iOS 8.3 🙁

  • Chris

Jb on iOS 9 pointless will be full of bugs and a waist of time till it settles down

    The devil you know

  • George Yfantopoulos

    What about 8.1.3 jailbreak?
