Pixelmator for iPhone teaser 001

Pixelmator, arguably the most popular alternative to Adobe’s Photoshop available on the Apple platform, is “coming soon” to the iPhone, its developer has confirmed in a blog post published today. In addition, the iPad edition of Pixelmator is on sale and can be grabbed now with a cool fifty percent discount for just $4.99. As it’ll soon be a universal app for the iPhone and iPad, now’s the time to grab the iPad edition and upgrade later to Pixelmator for iPhone at no additional cost.

In addition to supporting all of the features of Pixelmator for iPad, the iPhone edition of Pixelmator “adds some amazing new features,” among them the new Distort Tools, powered by Apple’s Metal technology which is normally use for creating graphics-demanding games.

Here’s a look at Pixelmator for iPhone’s Distort tools.

Again, these tools are incredibly fast and fluid because Pixelmator for iPhone is using Metal, a low-level graphics API in iOS 8 which removes the overhead of Open GL and gives developers close-to-the-metal access to the GPU.

Pixelmator for iPhone will be released as a universal app, meaning owners of Pixlemator for iPad will be able to enjoy the iPhone edition at no additional charge.

Grab Pixelmator for iPad for $4.99 in the App Store.

The 98.6-megabyte iPad app requires iOS 8.1 or later.

Pixelmator for OS X is $29.99 in the Mac App Store.

The 42.9-megabyte download requires OS X 10.9.5 or later and was recently updated with integration with Yosemite’s Photos app, support for Force Touch-enabled drawing on the trackpad, a more advanced Repair tool and other goodies.
