NotiAction 2

NotiAction is an innovative new jailbreak tweak that does something particularly cool—it lets you launch any Activator action by means of keywords found in incoming iOS notifications. You can designate up to 10 keywords with wildcards in the tweak’s settings, and allow NotiAction to listen for those particular keywords. If a valid keyword is found, then the corresponding Activator action is automatically launched. Have a look at our video walkthrough for a demonstration of NotiAction.

After installing NotiAction, you’ll need to open the Settings app and scroll down until you find the tweak’s preference panel. Once you do, open the panel, and you’ll see two switches at the top of the tweak’s preferences.

The first switch is a basic kill-switch, and the second switch enables and disables case sensitivity. Beneath these two switches, you’ll find a group of ten different notification filters that the tweak will check for. In these filter boxes, you’ll want to insert the keyword that you wish NotiAction to key on.

You can also use a wildcard character in the notification filter boxes, but keep in mind that notifications must match the entire filter. Once you’ve configured the filters to your liking, you’ll need to respring your iPhone using the respring shortcut at the bottom of NotiAction’s preference panel.

NotiAction Preferences

After respringing, open Activator’s preferences, and find the NotiAction Events section. There, you’ll see all 10 NotiAction matches, which correspond to each of the respective filters in NotiAction’s preferences.

In the video demonstration of the tweak embedded above, I assigned the word “wow” to the first NotiAction filter, and assigned the match in Activator’s preferences to launch the Calculator app. Once I received a notification containing the word “wow”, the Calculator app automatically launched without me lifting a finger.

I’m interested to see what types of scenarios that users will come up with when it comes to utilizing NotiAction and its keyword based action launching. It’s an impressive tweak that has lots of potential, can be acquired free of charge from the BigBoss repo.

What do you think about NotiAction?

What is this good for? can someone give an example ?

    • I use AutomateIt Pro on my OnePlus One to achieve similar stuff. The use case; if a notification for an app/system update appears (from either the system, Google Play Store, Amazon AppStore, or my Changelog Droid app), it usually has the word update in it (which is the trigger word), then it initiates backup of my apps in order to avoid being stuck in another of those “damn the update ruined it” situations…

You can use it for remotely turn on 3G. If you lose your phone you’ll still be able to find it 😉

You can send to your self “LOUDLOUD” for example and then set an activator action for 100% volume and a play scream sound or something. can be useful!

I’d use it to control the music app for example when I’m in a group and i play random music and everyone can send skip to my phone to skip the title or if you are alone and you have two devices… ^^

    • Activator has this feature in the latest beta, although it only filters for keywords in iMessages/SMS and not in notifications from other apps.

idea: when google maps sends you a notification with a specific street name near to someone, create a text saying nearby get the kettle on :p

Could work well for reminders. Set a geolocation reminder like “Settings” when you leave home and it would signal WIFI and BLuetooth to turn off.

  • gittlopctbi

Well, used to do this with Activator until the latest release (which I understand is back in the beta), but when I text something like “mute off”, it turns the mute off and allows it to ring in case I have it on mute and I can’t locate my phone. Now I think I can also set a NotiAction to set the mute off if the phone gets a call from home in case my wife or daughter are not home to send my phone a text.

You can use it for remotely (via SMS) turn on 3G. If you lose your phone you’ll still be able to find it 😉
It’s the only really useful thing I can think of.

I have a smart alarm system that sends me a notification when the alarm is armed or disarmed. I use NotiAction to automatically unlock my phone (with bypass) and to run a script which sets my nest away when the alarm is armed and home when the alarm is disarmed…..the possibilities with this tweak are endless!

  • Mathias Diessner

It doesnt work at all for me! Do you have a step by step Guide including activator settings?

    • bdan629

It is really simple. Not sure why you are having issues. Go into Notiaction. Put the text you want to trigger on in (1) check for. Then press the respring button. Then go into activator and assign the gesture to some action…..it is all explained in the video above.

      respring after set

Jeff Benjamin, you didn’t cover one of the best features of this tweak….the ability to have wildcards using the character %%. So lets say you put (%% walked into the bar). Then it would trigger on (Jeff walked into the bar) (Jay-z walked into the bar) even (Jeff Benjamin walked into the bar)………

If you want to trigger respring your device with this tweak via sms you are going to have a bad time
