8.4 music 1

Apple seeded the first beta of iOS 8.4 to developers on Monday, less than a week after releasing iOS 8.3 to the public. Today’s beta includes an all-new stock Music application, which Apple says will make exploring your music collection “easier and more fun.”

The app features a beautiful, more-simplified design, with quick access to things like recently-added music and your custom playlists. It also offers a more streamlined iTunes Radio experience, a new Global Search option, Up Next queuing and much more.

Full release notes:

  • All-New Design. Music app has a beautiful new design that makes exploring your music collection easier and more fun. Personalize playlists by adding your own image and description. Enjoy stunning pictures of your favorite artists in the Artists view. Start playing an album right from the album list. The music you love is never more than a tap away.
  • Recently Added. Albums and playlists you’ve recently added are now at the top of your library, making it effortless to find something new to play. Simply tap play on the artwork to listen.
  • Streamlined iTunes Radio. Discovering music with iTunes Radio is easier than ever. You can now quickly return to your favorite stations in Recently Played. Choose from a selection of hand-curated stations in Featured Stations, or start a new one from your favorite artist or song.
  • New MiniPlayer. With the new MiniPlayer, you can see what’s playing and control playback while browsing your music collection. To open Now Playing, just tap on the MiniPlayer.
  • Improved Now Playing. Now Playing has a stunning new design that showcases your album artwork the way it was meant to be. In addition, you can begin wirelessly streaming your music using AirPlay without leaving Now Playing.
  • Up Next. It’s now simple to find out which songs from your library will play next — just tap the Up Next icon in Now Playing. You can even reorder, add, or skip songs whenever you like.
  • Global Search. You can now search from anywhere in the Music app — just tap the magnifying glass. Search results are conveniently organized to help you quickly find that perfect song. You can even start an iTunes Radio station right from Search.

We are installing the beta now, and will be sure to update this post with any other changes worth noting. If you come across something you don’t see mentioned here, be sure to let us know either down in the comments, or via email at tips@iDownloadBlog.com.

  • jamster440

Pictures? And apple aren’t messing around with their releases are they!

    • Adham

This is fresh news, downloads + install will take a while.

      • jamster440

I didn’t realise i was the first to see this tbh

    • Jonathan

      *isn’t

      • Rodney Coleman

        ATFDL.COM has the beta download

  • judge2020

    first

    • Chris

Almost, +1 for the effort you made

  • Adham

So looks like they killed off another Cydia tweak.

    • blist

      exploit*

      • iBanks

Tweak was used correctly… He’s talking about the features of the music app. Not about jailbreaking the OS.

      • Adham

I meant tweak. Was specifically referring to the Up Next tweak that exists on Cydia.

      • blist

        Roger that! haha, sorry

      • Lance Baker

Yes. But that does exist in iTunes on the Mac and PC so it was only a matter of time.

    • iBanks

Would you be mad at that?

      • Adham

        Nope just worth noting haha

      • iBanks

        Agreed.

    • Fanboy 

IM SO HAPPY THEY DID FINALLY. Up Next is something that should have came with iOS 1 like geez lol. They’re slowly removing the need for jailbreak, however they still have a good way to go.

  • iBanks

Too bad I don’t use the music app for anything, but this new update sounds pretty good.

  • Plistumichu

    Beats integration is coming…

  • johnsm

    no screenshots?

    • Melvco

pretty sizable beta, we are still downloading.

      • johnsm

        thanks

    • iBanks

Can they get a chance to download and install?

  • Franklin Richards

Such a targeted update. Seems like there’s a bigger music feature coming our way soon.

  • jamster440

Is there a way to install without a UDID like the IOS 8.0 Betas?

    • iBanks

      Trying now

      • jamster440

Where did you download the 8.4 beta?

      • iBanks

https://www.atfdl. com and I did not register anything.

      • jamster440

cannot seem to find 8.4 betas

      • iBanks

I don’t think it’s the real deal. But when you go to the site it says download betas, click that then click your device model and it’ll have a download link from there. But I think they took 8.3 files and renamed it to reflect 8.4

      • jamster440

Its says they’re updating the betas to their site now, on their twitter, might have been a slight glitch when they were uploading to the site, got the names mixed maybe.

      • Rodney Coleman

Well it’s there now 8.4 been up for a few min now.

      • Dylan R

Until about 2-3 hours ago the ATFDL site said 8.3 beta 4 on all the updates still. They just finished uploading most of them within the past hour. I had the same “connection issue” too. What it was though is the phone just turned off and back on as a part of the update, so it does lose the connection to iTunes. When I swiped to update software it loaded me up to iOS 8.4 and I have the new music player and all.

      • jamster440

So it does work without a UDID?

      • Dylan R

I believe it can work without a UDID registered, both my devices are registered currently through ATFDL though, so I wouldn’t directly know. I know you have to turn off Find my iPhone in iCloud settings or else iTunes won’t let you. Also the only issue is if your UDID isn’t registered and your iDevice battery dies or you turn it off and on for any reason you could get the error message saying to become a registered developer to get access to your device (which sucks but can be fixed). If you’re going to do it, definitely back up your device to your computer in iTunes or on iCloud, so if you do have any issues like the unregistered account message you can always enter DFU mode (which is holding down iDevice physical buttons for a certain amount of time, just google it) and restoring in iTunes to the backup you did.

    • King Of The Clouds

      It worked for me! 🙂

  • David Williams

Will this be a public beta also? I’d love to try it out!

    • Dylan R

It should be but being Apple I’m guessing it could be Developer iOS 8.4 beta 2,3, or 4 before they would release a public beta version of 8.4. I’m on the Mac OS X public beta and it always seems to be 1-3 weeks after developer releases before we get betas usually.

      • jamster440

I think that was said that public ios betas won’t start until ios 9

  • Jonathan

Starting to want to lose jailbreak for all these new features.

    Must. Resist.

    • The features that I’ve had for years now?

      • pauleebe

        So far it’s basically Aria.

      • Jonathan

        The design is awesome
3rd party keyboards are way better on 8.3+

      • GuyBey0ndC00L

Any lag with 3rd party keyboards

      • Jonathan

Below 8.3? I use it primarily on an iPod 5, so yes, some lag in starting it up. Takes about 5 or 6 seconds, then it’s fine, thanks to a tweak that gives it more ram (I’m talking NinType here)

8.3 and above? I haven’t personally tried it, but I’ve heard excellent improvement.

      • Dylan R

I use 3rd party keyboards daily as I beta test for multiple developers. I currently use Fleshy, SwiftKey, Minuum, TextExpander, and I’ve used Swype as well. They’ve improved drastically from iOS 8 initial release a lot. But there still is issues when the keyboard won’t come up, accidentally switches to the stock keyboard, still can’t use 3rd party keyboards on the lock screen, no dictation in 3rd party keyboards and a few others. Overall the use of the keyboard itself typing, swiping, or whatever input method is being used is very fluid and smooth though.

    • Mike Chu

Resist it man! It’s not worth loosing your jailbreak!

    • King Of The Clouds

Can you activate my UDID and give me access to the beta please!

  • Andres

    Looks jailbroken and/or android

    • Fanboy 

There’s always that one guy…. *sigh*
Looks pretty iOS to me (simplistic design, blur effect, easy to read fonts with a clean look…..). Go troll somewhere else

      • Andres

Excuse me but I never said it didn’t look bad. I love the look, this is the comments section and I can comment on it. Don’t make assumptions asshole

      • AnArcticMonkey

Read his username, are you surprised at his reaction? I am an Apple fan (use a Mac, iPad, iPhone), but the true Apple fanboys are such narrow minded people who love to jump to conclusions whenever Apple is remotely criticised.

      • Andres

Agreed 100%. He even put so much effort into the punctuations and spelling. Makes me laugh a bit. “Go big or go home” he definitely needs to go home

  • Brandon

I really wish the album title would be on its own line instead of beside the artist name.

  • Is the icon the same?

  • iBanks

Maybe it’s just me… but does that chic in the screenshot look like a mixture of Prince, Michael Jackson and Aaliyah all mixed in one or is it just me?

  • Jonathan

    Dat now playing doh….

    Brb. Picking up jaw.

  • Lance Baker

I can’t wait to get home. I’ve been wanting this revamped for a LONG time!!

  • n0ahcruz3

    Yawn lol

  • XZavier

I’m happy they are finally adding this, but I can’t believe it took them this long…

    • iBanks

Why can’t you believe it? It’s Apple. But gotta love it.

  • pauleebe

Are they saving anything for iOS 9?

    • John

It’s Apple, you can bet they have a trick or two up their sleeve come WWDC!

      • jolehp

I hope the iOS 9 will bring some big changes.
Would like to see widgets on home screen integrated with apps 🙂

      • John

Mmmmm… I don’t know about this. I’m still in two minds about it, I reckon split screen/multitasking may appear but I’m not sure about home screen/springboard widgets.

That’s kind of/sort of what the notification centre widgets are.

  • Rodney Coleman

Yall quite crying and download it

    • iBanks

      quit*

    • King Of The Clouds

      Link please?

  • Alex Noyle

    Someone at apple likes Aria!

    • Cueue was the first to do it.

      • Alex Noyle

For “Up Next” functionality, you’re correct. However other Aria exclusive features like list sorting, UI adapting to the album art color, and iTunes Radio enhancements are implemented as well.

  • Martin

All I want is “Clear Cache” option!

    • jolehp

      Or Automatic Clear Cache 😀

  • haerondir

How does ‘now playing’ look on the 4s?

  • Hussain Alsanona

Almost month and half away from WWDC, and still there isn’t any single rumor or leak about iOS 9.

    • It’s already been stated there’s no ios9?

  • King Of The Clouds

Can someone activate my UDID for me and give me access to the beta?

    • MrJohnBlaze

      have u downloaded the beta

      • King Of The Clouds

        No not yet

      • King Of The Clouds

downloaded it can you activate or were you just asking?

  • Onaje Perry

If only apple would work with the jb devs and implement their tweaks, there would be no need for jailbreaking. With all those features sams__g wouldn’t know what to do. Best of all everybody would be happy!

  • Mr Hopscotch

Wow, this is the first time Apple has released a 4th supplemental update for any verson of iOS. The previous record was iOS 4.3.

  • Blip dude

Hmm, really wanna update but I sense the feeling that a Jailbreak has now officially delayed another 6-8 weeks when this thing will come out of beta (hoping sooner). While I am confident iOS 8.3 has fixed the bugs I’ve been coping with on iOS 8.1 and 8.1.2 waiting for a Jailbreak is a downer. Hmm, let’s see what other features will be added to iOS 8.4 (besides Beats music), and I’ll decide from there.

  • Ds

at this rate of software releases there probably wont be a jailbreak for awhile.. no one will know what ios to jailbreak.

sorry if this comment has already been posted. in to lazy at this point to read them all.

  • GuyBey0ndC00L

Seem Apple is trying to stop jailbreaking by pumping timing iOS 8 updates.

  • ɑղժɾҽա

I’m not sure if I like the new music app.

  • King Of The Clouds

Links are available for iPhone and iPod touch on ATFDL.

  • Brett Griffin

Just a quick note. Audiobooks have been relocated to iBooks in this release.

    • King Of The Clouds

Could you activate my UDID please so i can use the update?

  • Noah

I’ve had Recently Played since iOS 5. Thanks to Smart Playlists on iTunes. Just sync the playlist and everything that’s newly added, even if you download more items in iTunes Store, they appear in order.

  • Quang

TouchID for app purchases fixed in 8.4 beta

  • casino Life

anyone that needs phones update to iOS 8.4 txt me 619 321 9309

      • King Of The Clouds

I didnt and it is working just fine.

  • Sercan ŞENTÜRK

    Does sound quality improved?

  • Colin

Is this beta release available to the public beta release channel already?

  • King Of The Clouds

I’m on the firmware without being registered so hopefully it works perfectly without getting locked out.

  • Michael Gargett

The clock app has changed, everything looks slimmer, definatley looks more streamlined

    • King Of The Clouds

I just realized this! Hopefully this is a somewhat stable beta.

  • Joseph Johnson

do u need a developer account to install 8.4 beta

    • King Of The Clouds

      I didn’t.

  • iPhoneWINS

too many damn updates … at this rate we will never see a jailbreak

    • King Of The Clouds

      I think that’s the plan.

  • Mario Ortega

iOS 8.4 has a bug where it won’t let you charge your phone with a regular outlet you have to go to your computer to charge it I recommend you guys to stay away from it.

    • Isaiah Hunter

Doesn’t do that to me? Maybe it’s just you.

      • Mario Ortega

        Really I’m on iPhone 6+

      • King Of The Clouds

Yeah I’m on the iPod Touch and mine is charging just fine.

    • dombl

Same here.. with iPhone 5S, but my iPad Air 2 is charging with regular outlet.
Does it work with the outlet of the computer?

  • Mohamed Ahmed

I noticed something , Now i can comment on any photo when i send it on Massages App 😀

    • King Of The Clouds

You could do that ever since iOS 7 came out i believe.
