The Opera Mini web browser for the iPhone and iPad by Opera Software has received a much-needed iOS 8 extension and a few other features in its latest 9.1 update. The extension makes it easy to open links in Opera Mini from other apps using the multi-purpose iOS Share menu.
After enabling the new ‘Open in Opera Mini’ extension in the Share menu, you’ll be able to open links in Opera Mini from other apps, including browsers like Safari and Chrome.
“This is especially helpful when you want to jump from Safari to Opera Mini to save on mobile data,” developers noted alluding to their browser’s Turbo mode which compresses web pages to cut down on your cellular data usage.
Sharing is two-way.
For instance, you can share links, text and other content through Opera Mini’s contextual menu after highlighting content (the words, phrases or sentences) you want to share. Available choices include Copy, Define, Search (a magnifying glass icon) and Sharing.
As you’d expect, tapping the Share icon in the contextual menu lets you send content to Twitter, Facebook or to other apps installed on your device.
To share links in Opera Mini with other apps, long-press the link and choose the Share option, with other available choices including ‘Open in New Tab’, ‘Copy Text’ and ‘Copy Address’.
Last but not least, this edition of Opera Mini supports searching for content of your clipboard and opening URLs previously copied to the clipboard with one tap.
