iPad Pro mockup video (image 002)

Thanks to YouTube user Canoopsy (via Nowhereelse.fr), we now have a good sense of the size of Apple’s allegedly upcoming ‘iPad Pro’. The mockup video depicts how a 12.2-inch iPad would stack up against the current-generation current iPads, iPhones and 13-inch MacBook Pro in terms of size. The video is included after the break so give it a quick watch and meet us in comments.

Here it is.

According to KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi-Kuo, Apple may have delayed launch of an oversized iPad into the second quarter of 2015, citing manufacturing difficulties.

It’s been long thought that the iPad Pro would incorporate a 12.9-inch display, but the fairly accurate Japanese blog Macotakara recently claimed that Apple had opted for a slightly smaller 12.2-inch screen.

That notion was then corroborated by the Japanese magazine Mac Fan which posted what appears to be schematics of a 12.2-inch ‘iPad Air Plus’ with dimensions of 305.31mm x 220.8mm x 7mm (12 inches x 8.7 inches x 0.28 inches).

So, after watching this mockup video do we really need a bigger iPad?

    that is huge

    • Matt Taylor

      That’s what she said 🙂

  • ✯Mike✯

Especially for just an iOS device.. we need a hybrid OS or a touch-compatible format of OS X

    • Star Lord

I am actually hoping for OS X with touch capabilities.

      • Ethan

I like having them separate, but I’m fortunate enough to afford both (iPad and Macbook). They just don’t seem like things that NEED to be combined, but i cant lie that I touch my macbook screen quite often forgetting it’s not my iPad. I would like OS X with just a few touch integrations rather then fusing them.

  • Frank Anthony

iPad Pro 12.2inch that runs MAC OS X with 128GB, 256GB & 750GB. Of-course multi task enough without refresh and starting price at $499. >>> Take my money.

    • Jukkmoddr

LOL dream on. No way starting price for that will be $499…

    • joedaddy713

$499 might as well keep dreaming. See it more around $650-$700 for 128 gb and $750-$800 for the 256 gb. With that price it would be if it runs OS X. And would leave it in between the iPad Air and the MacBook Air.

      • KyleVPirate

Not bad for a full desktop OS, cheaper than even the Surface Pro 3

      • joedaddy713

Yeah the only reason I’m thinking that price for the full OS is because the 11″ MacBook Air starts at $899, and the 13″ MacBook Air starts at $999

  • john diaz

    Too big

  • n0ahcruz3

    Off topic… “CrescentGate” lmao

  • Matt Taylor

    Can’t wait for this

  • Jamessmooth

Cut the top and bottom bezels a bit… other than that I’m excited to see what Apple has planned for this!

  • JomanJi

    Mac tablet?

  • Fanboy 

If Apple gives us another enlarged iPhone i’m going to start considering that their development team just puts in no effort into these products. In fact, the current line up of iPads should all be running a more productive OS. Right now they’re just big iPhones, there are literally no OS features that distinguish an iPad from an iPhone.

    • James G

There are some features that distinguish it….split keyboard, four/five finger gestures! Haha.

You’re right though. Other than a very slightly different app-experience with a larger canvas, there isn’t much that separates the iPad from the iPhone.

  • l0athe

what if they are trying to make it like a windows tablet? half laptop, Half Tablet

  • Rodney Coleman

  • Shandeep Segar

    A larger iPAD is worthless!!

    • Ethan

even if its light as a feather???

  • Matt

If it has the same OS look as the other iPads and iPhones, then it’s a deal breaker

  • Andrew

To me, especially with Yosemite, OS X seems like it would be very easy to implement as a touch interface. I mean, does Launchpad not scream “I’m basically just iOS but on your Mac!” to you?

This iPad Pro/iPad Air Pro/iPad Plus/iPad Air Plus (the rumour mill needs to stuck to one name) had better be more than just a bigger iPad. Otherwise, I’d have to start questioning Apple’s logic…

  • rockdude094

Add an Intel processor then I’ll concider it.

  • Wesh

Might become something like a surface pro.
Such a large iPad definitely needs a full blown OS; why not Yosemite.
With a magnetic clip-on keyboard cover it’d be nice.

  • Der Faust

    lol….. if it runs OS X…. I’m down :)….

  • Look at all the tone changes…people are now wanting a Surface Pro with an Apple logo on it.

  • Plistumichu

That iPad could be used as a screen of a macbook. Think about continuity, you can use your macbook and then (if you need to) move around with an ipad just detaching the screen.
12 inches iPad, 12 inches new macbook air? Connect the dots.
