iOS 8.1 Restore Bonjour

Apple just released iOS 8.1.1, which kills the Pangu jailbreak. The good news is that it is (as of the writing of this post) still signing iOS 8.1. This means that you can still install iOS 8.1 and jailbreak for the time being.

But you better act fast. Apple has been very unpredictable when it comes to closing its signing windows. Once the window for iOS 8.1 is closed, you will not be able to upgrade or downgrade to iOS 8.1. You’ll have to go directly to iOS 8.1.1, which renders your device unjailbreakable.

iOS 8.1 signing status

Apple’s signing window for iOS 8.1 is still open as of now

As I type this, I’m currently restoring both my iPhone 5s and my iPhone 6 Plus to iOS 8.1. I’ve always been a little OCD about keeping my device in tip-top shape, and this is my means of doing that. After the restores are completed, I”ll re-jailbreak for a fresh and clean jailbroken device.

If you’re already jailbroken, you may find doing a fresh install and jailbreak a bit unnecessary. But if you’re not jailbroken, or if you’re still running iOS 7.1.2, it’s time to take the jump over to iOS 8.1. You can download the 8.1 firmware directly from our downloads page right now.

Before you even begin this process, however, I advise you to bookmark this page to check up on the signing status of iOS 8.1. If Apple is still signing iOS 8.1 prior to your restore, you can proceed. But if it no longer signing iOS 8.1, it’s best that you stay planted where you currently are.

What will you do now that iOS 8.1.1 is now upon us?

    Are they still signing?

Has anyone else tried to download ios 8.1 for iphone 6 this afternoon? The download link referred to from this page results in an error, and all the other websites from which I’ve tried to fetch ios 8.1 for iphone 6 result in the same error. Does anybody have a working source for this file? Thanks.

    • Mother Teegeeack

      Seems to be working now.

  • jonathan

    Are they signing it still

My 6 Plus is messing up after my restore yesterday! Are they still signing you think??

  • max

Haha apple trying to get all to 8.1.1 by freeing up some 500mb from iPhone but I am not falling 4 that trick! I cleared and clean 2.9gb off my iPhone by cleaning app temp files and such: I m happy with 8:1

  • Time To Jailbreak My iPhone 6

I’ve just restored my iPhone 6 and can confirm that iOS 8.1 is still being signed by Apple!

My iPhone 6 was actually still on iOS 8.0 but I had been meaning to update for a while so when I heard that iOS 8.1.1 had been released I panicked as I wanted the latest iOS version possible that can be jailbroken. I’m happy that I’ve managed to go from 8.0 to 8.1 whilst the signing window was still open.

I did encounter a couple of problems but got there in the end ;o)

    • Jermaine Smith

      what problems did you have?

  • Jermaine Smith

Can I restore/update my iPhone 5 7.0.6 jailbreak directly to 8.1 using the “Shift + Left click” method?

    • Time To Jailbreak My iPhone 6

I just did what you suggested on my iPhone 6 but that was from 8.0 (non jailbroken!) to 8.1 so it may work on your device but to be honest I have no idea.

I guess you could always update to 8.1.1 and then use the method you described to downgrade to 8.1 but the risk would be that Apple stop signing 8.1 before you manage to install it and then you would be stuck with 8.1.1 which obviously can’t be jailbroken (at the current time).

I am having issues trying to update/restore my iphone 5s 7.0.4 to ios8.1 . Itunes keeps giving my the following error “The iphone can not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible”. The firmware file I am using is the file that i downloaded from iDB download page. I am using the Shift + Restore button method and then choosing the firmware file. Anyone know what the issue is? Please help need to upgrade before they stop signing.

    • Morris Parker

had a similar issue, make sure your downloading the right software for ios 8 for your iphone (plus, and 6 have different version). redownload and try again. That worked for me

    • Keandrea Shontrice

I was having the same issue and finally got it to work. The problem wasn’t the firmware t was how my pc was saving the file.

      • NeedHelpPlease

How did you fix it? Mine is saying the same things as yours. Thanks πŸ™‚

      • Keandrea Shontrice

I had to re download it using a different Internet type. I was using Firefox at first then I switched to regular internet explorer and the file worked

3 Days Now Windows is still Open !!!

  • Sean

Silly Question. Im trying to restore my 5s to 8.1. So after you download the files to restore. Where do you place the files do that ITunes will recognize them to update the phone. I don’t want to accidently update to 8.1.1.

    • Flesh Killer

Are you using Windows or Mac

      • Sean

      • Flesh Killer

Hold shift and option and click update it will then open up a window for you to select the 8.1 firmware which is probably in your downloads folder

      • Sean

ok that worked but how do you located ISPW file. is it hidden somewhere?

      • Flesh Killer

Google this ” iOS 8.1 download redmondpie” on the page will be the links for all supported devices. Then Click on the iPhone u have. Once it’s done downloading. That is the one u will select when doing shift + option restore. U better hurry though I can’t see them signing 8.1 much longer dude!

      • Sean

I am trying but I keep getting this.

      • Sean

This error” could not be updated because the firmware is not updated.

      • Flesh Killer

That’s because the firmware file is corrupt you need to go back to Redmond pie and download the firmware again

      • Sean

I finally gt both ohones Jailbroken. Note to self . More apps and Files means Jailbreak may or may not work. I had to upgrade to 8.1.1 and then downgrade to 8.1 and the jailbreak.

      • Flesh Killer

Or u could have DFU mode and did fresh install then restore from backup. But hey!! We r jailbroken!!!! That’s all that matters. Congrats!

      • Sean

Your right in back in my own iPhone world. I wold like tiny stand for future purposes what DfU mode is and what I could have done different. My phone had a lot f apps on it and pangi kept rejecting it. When I tried to restore it iTunes kept trying to download 8.1.1, when I did the option restore. So I got tired of the run around and just upgraded to 8.1.1. Got a clean restore and then downgraded back to 8.1. Then it was easier to do my jailbreak through pangu.

      • Flesh Killer

DFU mode is like a service mode and bypasses all the BS that is on your phone or like u said u had way too much media on it. Once u enter DFU Apple servers sees the hardware and searches for the appropriate OFW it the Downloads and installs it as a new setup or in your case option restore would be the same your just telling it which specific build u want installed. So to sum that up. Plug in. Enter DFU. Option + restore. Select IOS 8.1. Done. ITunes will do the rest. Once it’s finished iTunes will ask to restore from backup or setup as new phone. In your case. Setup as new. Then enter your iCloud account info and then all your contacts. Emails. Etc will be restored then u would select the apps to be installed right from iTunes. Along with music movies photos and what ever else u would like. Your now on a fresh install and won’t have any issues that can arise from doing restore from backup every time a new firmware is released. Hope this helps! Happy thanksgiving!!

Is Apple still sighing for 8.1 three days later?

    • A Concerned Jalbreaker Newbie

That’s what I want to know… Trying to update right now. It appears to be working on Pangu if you wanna restore but it didn’t work on iTunes. So just try going to the restore tab on Pangu and do it that way.

Apple has just released iOS 8.1.1 3 days ago and r still signing 8.1, so if you have accidentally upgraded to iOS 8.1.1 or you want a jailbroken iOS, Fortunately Apple is still signing the iOS 8.1, so users can downgrade from iOS 8.1.1 to iOS 8.,1 easily

How to Downgrade from iOS 8.1.1 to iOS 8.1:

1-First Download the appropriate iOS 8.1 firmware

    2- Backup your devie

3- Connect the device running iOS 8.1.1 to your computer.

4- Launch iTunes and select the iOS device from the top right corner, to the left of the iTunes Store button.

5- Hold the Alt/Option key on the Mac or Shift Key in Windows on your keyboard and click on the Check for Update option, instead of restoring. We were able to successfully downgrade from iOS 8.1.1 to iOS 8.1 using this step, but if you want to go by the book then you should use the Restore method, but it will be more time consuming. Important note: If you use the Restore method, then it will wipe the data from your device so please don’t forget to take a backup.

6- Select the ipsw file you had downloaded earlier.

7- iTunes will inform that it will update your iOS device to iOS 8.1 and will verify the update with Apple, Click Update.

8- iTunes should now downgrade your iOS device to iOS 8.1.

    is it still signing?

    • Flesh Killer

      • Raquel

ok, thanks! I’m running 8.1 now

      • Flesh Killer

That’s great!! I love when we’re able to get What we want

Good news: Apple still signing 8.1 as of 7:39 PM (CST) on 11/24/2014 πŸ™‚

Bad news: Wifi is still grayed out with restore to 8.1 [iPhone 4S users beware] do not update to 8.1.1! Wifi was fully functioning on 8.1, but after a few days of use on 8.1.1 the wifi stopped working πŸ™

  • CoCoCa

Do not restore when doing this! In iTunes click shift click “update now” so you don’t lose your data then select the apple software!
