Tumblr today released a new desktop application for OS X Yosemite in the Mac App Store. Complementing the micro-blogging site’s iOS client, the new app allows users to browse Tumblr, post to their own blogs, and perform various other actions.

The UI is very minimalistic, and goes great with the new design language in Yosemite. The app also takes advantage of a few OS X features such as Full Screen mode, and the Share button—you can post to Tumblr from almost anywhere on your Mac.

Other than that, there’s not much to the application. Sure, full-screen browsing is nice, as is the ability to quickly post things like images, videos and web links. But beyond those two things, it’s essentially a repackaged version of the Tumblr web app.

That won’t be enough to draw in casual users, however, folks who frequent the website will likely benefit from the added capabilities. If you’re interested, you can grab the new Tumblr app from the Mac App Store (requires OS X Yosemite) for free.

Thanks tumblr for fueling my addiction to tumblr

  • This isn’t an application… this is the exact copy of the website, thrown into the Mac App Store with a Share Extension…

    • Noah

Tumblr probably just wanted the Share Extension, but with Apple’s strict guidelines to the MAS, they were forced to add an ‘application’ that simply displays Tumblr’s website…

What th heck is happening with apple lately? Some days ago I had trouble to install a back up, apps refusing to install and after some days like with magic I was able to use that back up.
Today I decided to purchase a ringtone but surprisingly the store button disappeared and is not coming back, and the itunes is closed, can confirm this for ios 5/6/7. Dont know for ios 8 since I don’t have a device on that firmware.
    Meh

It’s because you’re using an iPod..

      • leart

Nope, is the same in my ipod/iphone/ipad im different firmwares.
I guess is it location issue, now in my country i cant purchase music and ringtones but just apps, and i cant change the appstore to the usa one since there my debid card will not work.
Fk i guess my money aren’t ok

Just did a test changing the appstore region and the store button went back

I thought you’d catch on that I was mocking the iPod. Being the most useless device of the year.

      • Nope that was the amazon fire phone

      • leart

iPods are fun, if you own one is just for the pleasure of listening music but of course can’t compare with a smart phone

  • GuyWithTheThings

A little unrelated, but are any of you guys having trouble in Yosemite? I’m trying to watch YouTube and the display keeps dimming in the middle of videos… This wasn’t happening in Mavericks. Anyone else?

      Change your screen settings then?

    • R4
