HUDSpeed: speed up the volume HUD fade out animation

By , Jul 16, 2014

HUDSpeed

One of my personal iOS pet peeves is how long it takes for the volume HUD to fade away after adjusting the volume. It seems to linger there for an absurd amount of time, wearing out its welcome in the process.

A new jailbreak tweak called HUDSpeed has been released to combat the extended presence of the overlay. HUDSpeed is a tweak that takes a logical approach to fixing this issue—it speeds up the HUD animation forcing it to disappear quicker.

Does it work? Have a look at our video walkthrough past the break for the answer.

After installing HUDSpeed, venture to its preference panel in the stock Settings app to adjust the animation duration. Inside of the preferences you’ll see a toggle to enable the tweak (it’s enabled on install) and a slider knob to adjust the animation speed (duration).

The lower the speed, the faster the animation fades out. You can set the speed all the way down to zero for an absurdly quick volume HUD animation. Conversely, you can bump the speed up to 3 for a turtle-like volume HUD that seems to want to linger around forever.

HUDSpeed Settings

HUDSpeed works just as advertised. If you’re tired of the volume HUD loitering on your iPhone’s screen, then get this tweak and put a stop to the nonsense. It’s a free download on Cydia’s BigBoss repo, and comes from a very reputable developer (CameraTweak and HandsFree). Get it, and let me know what you think about it down below in the comments.

I just actually really wanted this. I feel the default speed is too long.

      • lemonhead

try statusvol. it’s better in my opinion

      • Dri

I’ll give it a try. First time i hear about it. Thanks

      • Alberto Espinal

Theres no such statusvol, i looked it up and its not in cydia unless its on another repo

      • Dri

Can’t find in on cydia eather. I Don’t want them shady repo’s on my phone so i’ll stay with statushud2

      • lemonhead

        apt.steverolfe.com
It has an active dev a lot less bugs and is themeable…

and there is only this tweak in this repo so it’s not shady

      • Simon Yung

yes! there’s often a better suggestion (or suggested alternative) in the comments. and i agree, i think statushud 2 is better. thank you!

It’s the little things in life

It’s the little things about jailbreaking that make iOS a better platform than Android when coupled with that jailbreak!

    Nice tweak its useful.!

  • pauleebe

Could easily be integrated into Springtomize 3.

Prefer to keep the tweak count low …

    • mlee19841

Nah. We have to have at least 10-15 tweaks installed.

    • James Gunaca

Same here. But it’s not there.

    • Diego Milano

No kidding. I wonder how come simple things like this were not added to Springtomize already. I don’t like so many tweak settings listed in my settings app when they are basically just a kill switch an a slider bar.
Also, not sure if StatusHUD 2 actually allows you to customize the delay of the normal HUD or just the statusbar portion of it (which by the way I don’t like and can cause incompatibility with other tweaks using the statusbar).

I think to myself “the volume hud takes too long to fade”
Every. Single. Time. i adjust the volume
Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

    • James Gunaca

Especially when watching a video and you make a volume adjustment!

      • Tommy

Especially when I watch a video and make a few volume adjustments!

  • regkilla

I’ve been waiting for something like this.

  • nonchalont

Is there a flex tweak for this? I would only want one setting: fast dismissal of the HUD.

  • DIesel

    Sexy tweak

  • James Gunaca

When I saw this tweak, I grabbed it IMMEDIATELY. Pet peeve of mine too, running 7 years long now. Thanks, jailbreak, and dev.

  • Ivan Macinas

Is there a tweak that puts a volume slider on the HUD?

    • Diego Milano

Yes, it’s called HudSlider. I haven’t tested it though.

  • Wa1t

i thought i was the only one who felt it lingered too long
