UltraSn0w Delete

One of the more common error messages that new Cydia users will come across is the error that says Failed to fetch […] HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found. This is a typical 404 message that you get when you visit a webpage location that no longer exists. Normally, this wouldn’t be a big deal, but it causes an error message to appear in Cydia each time you refresh your list of packages and it attempts to pull data from the non-existent UltraSn0w repo.

You’ll receive an error that states: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. Yeah, so no big deal, but it’s still a huge annoyance, because this interrupts the stream of refreshing the list of Cydia packages. The fact is that you’ll probably never need to use UltraSn0w, and even if you did, you can always add the repo back to Cydia manually.

How to remove the Dev Team UltraSn0w repo and stop the “failed to fetch errors”

Step 1: open Cydia and tap the Manage tab at the bottom of the screen.

Step 2: tap Sources.

Step 3: tap Edit in the upper right-hand corner of the Sources page and then tap the red minus sign next to Dev Team and delete the Dev Team UltraSn0w repo (http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com).

Step 4: Tap Done in the upper right-hand corner.

Step 5: Tap the Changes tab at the bottom of the screen and tap the Refresh button in the upper left-hand corner to refresh your Cydia sources.

Step 6: You should notice that the errors from the UltaSn0w repo have stopped occurring.

And that’s all there is to it. Of course, adding UltraSn0w back is just as easy as removing it. Instead of using Edit > remove, just use Edit > Add on the Sources page, and type in UltraSn0w’s repo address.

UltraSn0w Install

Adding UltraSn0w repo back to Cydia:

Step 1: open Cydia and tap the Manage tab at the bottom of the screen.

Step 2: tap Sources.

Step 3: tap Edit in the upper right-hand corner of the Sources page and then tap the Add button in the upper left-hand corner.

Step 4: Type in UltraSn0w’s repo address: http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com and tap Add Source.

Step 5: Assuming the repo is up and operational, you should see a black screen showing the source being added and packages being downloaded. If you get a “cannot find” error message, then UltraSn0w is probably down.

Keep in mind, depending on the status of the repo, you may or may not be able to add it right away. UltraSn0w seems to be pretty finicky and go offline a lot, hence the reason for the error message happening in the first place.

Considering that UltraSn0w will rarely if ever be used by you, there’s simply no harm in removing it, at least temporarily, to help speed up Cydia. The reduced frequency of repo error messages will save you a few extra strands of hair as you navigate through Cydia on a day-to-day basis.

Flipswitch isn’t installing it says “trying to overwrite/library/Flipswitch/flipswitchspringboard.dylib” all kinda of stuff on my iphone 5 ios 7

  • Alex Marwaha

No matter what I do everytime I press refresh it takes literally forever to refresh. It doesn’t stop. Help!

    • ✪ aidan harris ✪

Get a better Internet connection or ignore the slowness since this slowness is likely due to the fact that many people are connecting to the repositories since the jailbreak has not been out for that long. After a while it should stabalise…

Anyone knows how to fix Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2) when I try to update cydia. I am on ios7.

    • Mitch Nielsen

      same here

    • ✪ aidan harris ✪

Try manually installing it. Download i-file first from Cydia. Now open Safari and go to apt.saurik .com/debs (remove the space). Scroll down to uikittools_1.1.8_iphoneos-arm.deb and then click it and the deb will download in Safari. Once it has downloaded tap open-in and then i-file. Once i-file opens up select ‘installer’ from the menu. Now repeat the process only this time with the cydia_1.1.9_iphoneos-arm.deb.

      • Daniel

        Thank you

    • Mitch Nielsen

I found this and it helped

“Hey i had the same problem, i fixed it by hooking my already jailbroken iphone 4s up to my computer. Then i opened evasion ios7 jailbreaker and ran it again once it got to the spot where it asks you to unlock your ipohone and click the evasion app, hold the evasion app and delete it then force quit the evasion downloader on your computer. After that go to cydia on your iphone/ipod and let it download the stuff, then click complete upgrade and let it instal once done yu should be able to download all ios7 stuff. Hope it works good luck.”

    • 4p0c4lyps3

Nothing will run on A7 devices til mobile substrate and tweaks have been optimized for ARM64 bit chips.

  • Royce Otero

This is what happens when u have unexpierence user with a jail broken device. DONT add sht without doing a small research on what u downloading.. Cydia was just released and all I see is people having problems.

      • Royce Otero

To everyone that commented on me.. Yes we all been there, I actullay had my brother help me out to understand jailbreak. But come on right at the beginning and all these people are having this much problems? I can just imagine how many files they will be switching around and deleting with ifile lol

Yeah im pretty sure there was a time when u were new to jailbreaking. My what “dumb” questions im sure u asked

+1 I can remember some of the ‘dumb’ questions I used to ask when I was what I believe is called a ‘noob’

      • Matthew Cooper

I started close to the beginning where not even a google search could answer most questions. It was like ok im jailbroken now what. But still we are here to help each other despite their level.

      • Burge

I remember them days.. Oh that was fun. But with YouTube and sites this this it can only be easier for the “noobs” no affence to anyone. Opening cydia for the first time and only having about 100 items go try out.. Ios 2 rocked ..lol.

refresh cydia and let the of the repos update. dont hit cancel. Then try to add it.

    • Burge

Open up more souces in cydia.. It should be at the top because you deleted it .. It’s a default repo that is added from the start..

  • leart

The first thing I always do after a jailbreak (I do it frequently since I have still a a4 device and a 4s :P) is to delete the UltraSn0w repo 🙂

I want to ask a question. Before ask, please honest everyone. That s not about saying jailbreak is useless or something like that.(i love jailbreak). How many people jailbreak his iPhone/iPod/iPad sucessfully?and is that working great on iDevice perfect?(i mean no battery drains, crushes…)

  • Brandon Higgins

This was the VERY first thing I did upon jailbreaking. Still holding off to install anything. One thing you can do is go to each tweak you want to install and check the update notification so when it gets updated you’ll know!

    • ✪ aidan harris ✪

If you have a device with an A7 processor (iPad Air, iPad Mini with Retina Display, or iPhone 5s) no tweaks at the moment will work. If you don’t have any of those devices the tweaks will “just work”, need to be enabled in the settings app (or its own app) or the tweak does not work…
