As expected, Google has started rolling out its popular Street View feature to the web version of its Maps app this morning, bringing the option back to iPhone 5 and iOS 6 users.

Early reports claimed that the data was limited to the US and Canada. But now it appears that the feature has gone live around the world. Keep reading for our first impressions…

Street View in and of itself is impressive. Navigation is surprisingly smooth, the picture quality is at least on par with its native counterpart, and we had no trouble finding places to test it out.

It is worth pointing out, however, that there’s no zoom option here, which is kind of a bummer. And we have noticed a few bugs here and there, like image distortion and windows force closing.

But overall, the feature looks and works great. And folks who have been missing it on iOS 6 will be happy to have it back. This should tide them over until a native Google Maps app hits.

If one ever does.

Anyway, what do you think of the mobile web version of Street View?

Cant see the new option.. Can you post a link to a StreetView or tell us where to enable it?

  • Can’t seem to get it to work on iPhone Safari. Also no resluts coming out. But if you have chrome installed resluts show but no street view for either app Is Google doing this on purpose?

Bottom right comer has the street view button. It looks like a little guy.

  • pandees waran

cant see in IPHONE4 with ioS6 please guide me how to get it

  • Roy

I don’t see the app on App Store

    • It’s not an app. It’s in the web version of Google Maps.

  • search for a address, then click on the street view icon in the bottom right hand corner that’s a person

  • seyss

Whoa what a shitty implementation.. So cpu intensive it hangs the music playing in the background (iPhone4S), no zoom, cant dragndrop doll icon forcing you to type an address, etc

    • ghettocowboy

Blame Apple for you to resort to this. Also I find it weird that your 4S is not able to handle web base app

      • usually when iphone is jailbroken the ram and cpu is used more extensively, which results in crashes. I can see why iphone 4s could have this problem with google.

      • goofygreek

also, a lot of people leave a lot of apps in the background/app switcher which also helps eat up that precious memory.

      • JerseyD

If your 4S is jailbroken that means you’re still on iOS 5 and don’t need to use a web app for google maps.

      • tethered jailbreak for ios 6, right?

  • Sn0wsh0e

does street view work on iOS 5.1?

    • pegger1

Yes, it works in the google maps app and now in the browser maps as well.

Any one knows why after I install iPad base band on iPhone 3GS new boot r, my wifi went grey, I can’t use or run Cydia, any input ?

    • Why did you installed the iPadBaseBand? Redsn0w can downgrade your baseband to a stock iPhone baseband. Take a look.

      • Roy

Well I try to install iPad base band to unlock iPhone 3GS new bootrom but something went wrong, the wifi and Bluetooth went grey and are disabled also de imei disappear and no firmware (base band) I have spent 20 hours on it. Restore iTunes to ios6, downgrade to 5.1.1.
