According to its developers, Barrel is a jailbreak tweak that adds a 3D “cube” effect to your icon pages. The description surely fits the bill and doesn’t disappoint, but the price may prove to be a stumbling block.

Take a look inside as I take a video glimpse at this latest Jailbreak App. Then you can decide for yourself if this visual tweak is worth departing with your hard earned cash…

The first thing you should know is that this tweak is only for iPhones running iOS 4 and up, and I personally wouldn’t recommend it on anything less than an iPhone 3GS. It would probably make the 3G explode due to the graphical nature of the tweak.

As far as settings go, you’re not going to find much here, but there is a “mode” setting located in the that allows you to switch between inverted 3D cube mode and normal mode. Think of it as being “inside the barrel” and “outside the barrel.”

That being said, $2.99 is an awfully high price to pay for a tweak with so few settings and options. But, if you’re feeling frivolous, and you’d like to add some additional visual flair to your iPhone’s home screen, it just may be what the doctor ordered.

Barrel can be downloaded via Cydia, but remember your iPhone must be jailbroken in order to do so. What do you think, is it worth the asking price?

  • Nice. An interesting tweak.

  • Kenny

It looks like crap if you are using the Cydia app “Shrink”

  • David

I quite like it but only works well if you go slowly between pages

  • Nilesh

just installed it…very cool tweak…long as you didn’t necessarily pay for it 😉

  • six4seven

does it lag or slow performance?

  • Burge

Using this since yesterday ..Apple need something like this as standard it ..the only thing is barrel out or barrel in

    • They are probably going to add more effects soon… i like t and it’s worth paying for.

  • Nilesh

no laggage noticed at all. So far so good (I have an iPhone 4)

    • Pissed_Off_NERD!

      We must talk my friend….

  • Thor

Yeah, this is .99 app at most. Looks cool but with FolderEnhancer I am down to two screens, sometimes three if I am trying out lots of new apps. Let the 1%ers pay for this one.

  • Looks great but worth .49 cts ……

  • ZilvR

Hey Jeff, does it work with infiniboard? 🙂

    • yes. and with SBRotator, but outside looks a lot better when in landscape then inside cube does.

  • anonymous

the lg phones already have that cube look to it……..

  • Leo

It does lag if you old iPhone 3GS when you unlock your phone from the locked phone by pressing the home button it will lag about 2 to 3 sec that’s what happen to my phone but I like it so does matter haha and the price is pretty fair… 2.99 for a graph rotation thingy it’s good ^^

  • tl

It was a design failure. Cubes only have 4 sides, so therefore you will only be allowed four pages 😛 If you could scroll down and stuff that would make 16 pages

    • Burge

What you typed is wrong and can do all of what you say carnt be you can scoll down .go find the tweak

  • What if the iPhone came stock with this cube affect, and the tweak would be the one that we have on our phones now? ..would we be impress also, and pay the 99cents?? hmmm

    • abanibi

Looks cool but i’m not about to pay for an app that doesn’t do anything
“wow it looks different when i change screens” gimmie a break

      • gjhgkjg

        your not a pessimist.

  • Z

@Jeff All I can say is FolderEnhancer is your #1 help in organizing your icons.

I saw it in new updated apps on Cydia and found it relatively cool. But I have a one page layout, don’t personally like pages.

only an american would spend money on this sort of stuff. this is worth zero. no sane person would PAY for a screen tweak this little and that has no effect on usability AND makes the phone slower at the same time.

  • Soto187

I Like this tweak the upgrade made it look smoother. Feels like a Linux(compiz) like phone with style. Worth the money? For me it is. It’s classy on my iPhone 4.
