One of the better jailbreak apps is WeatherIcon, available in Cydia. This app allows two things: a temperature display in the status bar, and live updates/changes to your designated weather app icon (Apple’s native weather app, The Weather Channel, Weatherbug, etc…) that reflect current weather conditions. This way you can remember it’s a dapper -14 degrees out without even unlocking your phone.

This is a clean and simple app. The temperature display in the status bar is unobtrusive (though there is an option to include a small image of current weather that takes up a little more space) and the various icon graphics for current weather are hi-res for iPhone 4 and well, accurate. Is it raining outside? Why yes, my iPhone weather icon tells me it is!

There’s also some cool tweaks such as:

  • Lets you set the update interval to 1, 5, 10, 15, 30 minutes, or 1 to several hours. This can conserve battery life if you set it higher.
  • Display current temp as a badge on your weather app icon rather than changing the icon entirely. Good if you have the image enabled in the status bar already, or if you like The Weather Icon’s app and don’t want to change it.
  • Temperature displayed can be actual temperature or wind chill temperature, also in Fahrenheit or Celsius.
  • Temp info is pulled from whatever city is first in the native weather app, so you can change it easily.

This is not a new app by any mean so you might have already given it a try. If so, let us know how you like it.

Just so you know every time you post a story about an app you can only get when you jailbreak makes it just that much harder to wait for the 4.1 jailbreak. (please dont stop I’m writing down everyone you mention so I can get it later). 🙂

When will it be available in cydia?? I just looked after reading but it’s not in there yet ??

  • 2meu

It is in cydia but it ask me to install libstatusbar which I can’t find on cydia. Do I need a repo to install libstatusbar? Someone?

  • Dano2112

Its available in Cydia, bigbossrepo, but you won’t see it unless you go into manage>>settings>> and choose developer (not user or hacker).

  • Dano2112

Sorry “libstatusbar” is available in Cydia, bigbossrepo, but you won’t see it unless you go into manage>>settings>> and choose developer (not user or hacker).

      Thanks. It works.

I like this app l. I used to run it on my 2g. But as you put it , it can run the battery down so to stop that put longer times in … But by the time it updates the weather has change and you know that before the app in the end your running a app for no reson and using up battery … But I do like it and it looks good with LIVECLOCK

  • Burge

There is also themes that you can use with this and use different weather pics .clear background looks good with htc weather icons

  • Chris

I’ve had this app since the 2.x days and I’ve gotta say that it is one of my favorite jailbreak apps.

This app is useless if you have Lockinfo. You only need one or two seconds on the lockscreen to know the weather, forecast and temperature outside; I don’t need a reminder of the temperature in ALL the pages/panels and status bar of my iPhone ALL the time.

Iphone 4 users be careful! according to the compatibility list, this app is not yet compatible. See here:

When I last tried it, the it broke my phone’s ability to connect with password protected wifi connections (goodbye office WiFi 🙁 )

I haven’t seen any messages that these issues have been corrected so just be careful if you’re using iphone 4

  • Joe

I wish apple would do that

  • The only negative is that it requires the stock weather app even if you have a 3rd party weather app.

    • If you go into settings menu and choose weathericon you should be able to choose from a variety of 3rd party apps. I don’t use it on the native weather app anymore.

Badge never appears on Fizz Weather – ip4 running 4.1

It works just fine on my iPhone 3GS (4.3.3). The only issue I have is that the temp is shown in Fahrenheit. How can I change it to Celsius? I have tried the override section and checked Celsius to ON but still get nowhere. Anyone?

  • evancrazy98

I have had it for a couple weeks, and it won’t update the temp. it just says “48 [degrees]” and won’t change even if it’s 67 F
