iPhone iOS 4.2 improving YouTube & CoreMIDI Support?

by Guest Author on Sep 19, 2010

Every time there is an update in the iPhone’s operating system the leaks start pouring in when the betas start getting passed out. This time with 4.2 it is no different. An improvement or adjustment I took notice in was the supposed tweaks to the YouTube experience and CoreMIDI support.

iLounge reports that the YouTube additions start and (apparently) end with adding of “Like” and “Dislike” buttons. If this is true it obviously offers no solace to those who’ve fallen in love with jailbreak app, YourTube 2… Read More

This iPhone App Lets You Type Upside Down

by Sebastien on Sep 19, 2010

I was just tipped by iDB reader Plot66 about this application called Flip / Bubble Text which allows you to type uʍop ǝpısdn or in ⓑⓤⓑⓑⓛⓔ ⓛⓔⓣⓣⓔⓡⓢ, then easily copy the text to another app or post the text directly to Facebook and Twitter.

I posted an upside down tweet earlier today and many of you asked me how I did it so I figured I’d share the trick with you… Read More

iPhone Helping Autistic Kids

by Guest Author on Sep 19, 2010

This story makes so much sense that I feel inferior for only realizing the potential just now. The idea of using a touchscreen to help children suffering from autism is brilliantly simple. The fact is that the iPhone might have the best and most simple system in iOS and the two were destined to help each other.

News Channel 10 out of Amarillo Texas has a report that centers on the benefits of using the iPhone to help the children dealing with the ailments that autism has. An app that focuses itself on speech therapy works by having the kids just touch the correct picture of whatever sound is being played. Magical, isn’t it? Read More

Google Voice App GV Mobile+ for iPhone Released

by Sebastien on Sep 18, 2010

Sean Kovacs’s Google Voice application for iPhone GV Mobile+ has finally been released in the App Store. After being removed from the App Store for replicating already existing features of the iPhone, Google Voice Mobile made its way to Cydia. Then when Apple loosened the app approval process a few days ago, they told Kovacs he could resubmit his application.

GV Mobile+ is probably the most popular Google Voice application, but it is not the first one to appear in the App Store. Yesterday, GV Connect was officially approved and became the first Google Voice application to return to the Store for download… Read More

Update on the GreenPois0n Jailbreak for iPhone

by Sebastien on Sep 18, 2010

It seems GreenPois0n is going to be the next jailbreak for iOS 4.1 thanks to a new bootrom exploit that will supposedly work for the iPhone 4, the iPad, as well as the new iPod Touch.

Because everyone wants to know what’s going on, the Chronic Dev Team gave a “no-update update” on their blog about the future potential GreenPois0n jailbreak, saying things were going swimmingly, to paraphrase them.

I guess the team has been receiving many emails and tweets from people eagerly waiting for a jailbreak for iOS 4.1. Here is the full update given by the Chronic Dev Team: Read More

SwitcherMod App for iPhone

by Sebastien on Sep 18, 2010

SwitcherMod is a new jailbreak application available in Cydia that supposedly improves the iPhone app switcher. I say “supposedly” because I fail to see the usefulness of this applications.

Developed my Ryan Petrich, one of my favorite jailbreak developers, SwitcherMod allows you to drag icons to reorder them. It also allows you to make exited apps transparent and show the “close” button by default… Read More

First Google Voice Application Reappears in the App Store

by Sebastien on Sep 17, 2010

We’ve been talking quite a bit about Google Voice on the blog the last few days because Apple apparently started telling developers it was ok to submit Google Voice applications again in the App Store.

Although he was getting everybody’s attention, developer Sean Kovacs is not the only one working on Google Voice applications, and someone actually came up with a Google Voice app before him… Read More

iOS Exploit Allows to Install Cracked Apps on Non-Jailbroken iPhone

by Sebastien on Sep 17, 2010

iOS 4.1 is just a few days old but someone already found a major exploit in it. Apparently, some hackers found a way to install cracked applications on a non-jailbroken iPhone via an app called IPA God, which should be released in the near future.

The following video shows IPA God in action. While do not encourage app piracy here at iDB, I thought it was important enough to share that with you… Read More

Is Apple Trying to Turn the iPod Touch into an iPhone?

by Sebastien on Sep 17, 2010

The guys over at Patently Apple uncovered an interesting patent filing from Apple revealing an accessory transceiver that could provide the iPod Touch with access to a mobile telephone network.

According the patent, this accessory transceiver could be connected wirelessly or physically to the iPod Touch. Not only it would work for an iPod Touch, but it also seems it would work with any mobile device, like a Blackberry, a camera, etc… Read More
