Apple temporarily pulls watchOS 3.1.1 following bricking complaints

Apple on Tuesday pulled watchOS 3.1.1, following complaints that the software is bricking some Series 2 Watch models. The update, which was released yesterday, includes support for new Unicode 9.0 emoji, some customization features, and more.

According to the complaints, after installing watchOS 3.1.1, affected Apple Watches begin displaying a red exclamation point and the URL www.apple.com/help/watch. A force restart does not fix the issue, and these Watches will likely need servicing.

Apple releases macOS Sierra 10.12.2 update

Following yesterday's iOS 10.2, tvOS 10.1 and watchOS 3.1.1 releases, Apple today completed its OS updates by launching macOS 10.12.2 software update (build 16C67) for Sierra-compatible Macs. In addition to bug fixes and performance improvements, macOS Sierra 10.12.2 packs in 100+ new and redrawn emoji available across iOS 10.2 and watchOS 3.1.1 as well.

There's a new shortcut for taking screenshots of the Touch Bar and Chinese users can put a new Chinese Trackpad Handwriting button to the Touch Bar's Control Strip. If you use Boot Camp, Sierra now supports new installations of Windows 8 and Windows 7 on supported Macs.

Pokémon GO players are in for some goodies this week as Niantic is rolling out some of the first of the game’s second-generation Pokémon to players, with more than 100 additional monsters coming within the next few months.

The introduction of these new Pokémon is expected to renew player interest and give existing players something new to hunt after.

tvOS 10.1 with new TV app and Single Sign-On launches on fourth-generation Apple TV

Alongside releasing the feature-packed iOS 10.2 software update for iPhone and iPad and watchOS 3.1.1 for Apple Watch owners, Apple also this morning launched tvOS 10.1, the first major update to the operating system powering the fourth-generation Apple TV following tvOS 10.0's debut in September.

tvOS 10.1 (build number 14U593) is not as feature-packed as iOS 10.2. It contains bug fixes, performance improvements, Apple's new channel-guide app and support for the new Single Sign-On feature, among other items.

Samsung planning a software update to render remaining U.S. Note 7 phones useless

Not even the exploding batteries have stopped die-hard fans of Samsung's ill-fated Note 7 from using the remaining phablets that are still in the wild. However, Samsung wants all Note 7 devices to be safely returned and is working on a software update that will render the remaining Notes in the United States useless, according to Samsung's official blog post and a statement given to The Verge.

Pokémon GO update lets trainers transfer Pokémon in bulk and fixes bugs

Niantic has launched an update (version 1.19.1) for the popular Pokémon GO game on both the Android and iOS platforms on Thursday that addresses several bugs, as well as a highly-requested game improvement.

Those who catch many Pokémon know the struggle of having to transfer out the ones they don’t need to Professor Willow, one by one, but Thursday’s update now allows players to transfer a handful of unwanted Pokémon to the professor all at once.

Apple releases iOS 10.2 beta 1 to public testers

Apple on Tuesday released the first beta of iOS 10.2 to public testers. The software comes just a day after it was seeded to developers, and a week after iOS 10.1 was released to the public. You can install the new beta via the OTA update mechanism in the Settings app.

Adobe pushes another critical security update for Flash Player

It's been a little more than two weeks since Photoshop maker Adobe released a security update for its Flash Player for macOS which fixed a bunch of critical vulnerabilities and now another critical security update for Flash Player got released this morning. According to Adobe, the vulnerabilities in the current version of Flash Player could allow an attacker to take control of Mac, Windows, Linux and Chrome OS machines.
