iTunes 10.1.1 is Out

Apple just released an update to iTunes with version 10.1.1 which apparently fixes some issues with syncing and unexpected crashes. I personally never experienced this issue but I guess it was a problem for some of you.

iTunes 10.1.1 seems to be safe for jailbreakers and unlockers but it might be a wise thing to wait for an official confirmation from a Dev Team member. In the meanwhile, this is the changelog for iTunes 10.1.1...

Google Voice App Updated to Include Support for iPod Touch and iPad

The official Google Voice app has just received an update to bring support for iPod Touch and iPad. Now some of you may ask: “How is this possible considering that these devices are not tied to cellular networks?”

Google has implemented a new service called Click2Call. It works by calling one of your registered phones first before you can make the call. Although it would probably be easier just to call from that phone in the first place, it’s nice to see Google making improvements on their apps...

Tutorial: How to Install the New Cydia for iOS 4.2

Cydia was recently updated to support Apple's updated API's in iOS 4.2. This particular Cydia update was quite the major overhaul, and there is no option available (yet) within Cydia to update to the newest version automatically.

Besides iOS 4.2 support, there are several long-awaited improvements in this version of Cydia.

The most noticeable improvement in this update is a huge performance boost throughout the whole application. Everything is faster. Once Cydia does the initial restructuring and downloading after you first install the update, you should notice an immediate boost in speed as you navigate the app. That means less of the dreaded loading wheel and more of actually accomplishing what you want to do...

Cydia Gets an Update and Becomes Much Faster

Cydia. Love it or hate it, it's one of the pillars of the jailbreak community. When Cydia acquired Rock a few months ago, Saurik made the promise that he would work on improving Cydia's speed, which, let's be honest, leaves a lot to be desired.

So we knew for a while that it was being worked on by Saurik and Chpwn, but with the release of the recent jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1, we've had a taste of where Cydia is going, and I like that a lot.

While the changes in the new release of Cydia aren't much "esthetically visible" as most of it happens under the hood, if you have the new Cydia on your iPhone, you must have noticed some speed improvement...

Download iOS 4.2 for iPhone Now [Jailbreakers Beware]

As we reported earlier today, iOS 4.2 for iPhone is now available for download. To get iOS 4.2 on your iPhone, simply make sure your have updated iTunes to the latest version available (version 10.1), then plug your iPhone in.

iTunes should tell you that a newer software is available for download and prompt you to update. If iTunes doesn't tell you anything, click "check for updates". If you still can't see anything, try again later as iOS 4.2 might not be available in your area just yet, as it takes time to propagate throughout the servers...

RedSn0w Gets an Update to Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 GM

PwnageTool is not the only jailbreak to get an update today. The Dev Team also updated RedSn0w to version 0.9.6b3 to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 GM which was released earlier this week.

It's important to note that this version of RedSn0w is mostly for developers. If you aren't much of a technical person, I'd suggest staying away from it. If you plan to unlock using UltraSn0w, you must absolutely stay away from it...

PwnageTool Jailbreak Updated to Version 4.1.2

A quick note to let you know that PwnageTool, the jailbreak for Mac OSX has been updated to version 4.1.2. PwnageTool is a jailbreak that lets you update your iPhone to the latest jailbroken iOS while preserving the baseband to make sure you can unlock.

According to the Dev Team, this newer version of PwnageTool should fix any issues that OSX 10.5.x users were encountering. If you used PwnageTool to jailbreak and didn't notice any Cydia issues, you do not need to do anything else...

Apple Releases iTunes 10.1 [Jailbreakers Beware]

Apple just released iTunes 10.1, bringing AirPlay to the table. iTunes 10.1 will also be necessary to update your iPhone to iOS 4.2, whenever it's released.

So far there is no indication whether iTunes 10.1 is safe for iPhone jailbreak and unlock, so my advice to you is to stay away from it until we get confirmation from the Dev Team that it is indeed safe.

Here is the changelog of iTunes 10.1...

Update About the iPhone iOS 4.2 Jailbreak & Unlock

With iOS 4.2 release day right around the corner, there are a few things that you need to be reminded of. Most jailbreak veterans out there probably know this by now, but I'm worried that the jailbreak novices will make mistakes they might regret sooner rather than later.

The Dev Team just posted an update on their blog about what to expect, and most importantly about what to do and what not to do. Here is a quick summary...

Apple Releases iOS 4.2 GM – Real Deal to Come Soon

Apple just released iOS 4.2 Gold Master for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. This basically is the pre-release version before the public one gets shipped. In other words, we should see the iOS 4.2 released to the public in just a few day.

I'm not sure yet if iOS 4.2 GM holds any surprise, but as always, make sure to stay away from it for the time being if you care a lot about your jailbreak/unlock.

Apple to Fix Major iPhone Security Hole with iOS 4.2

Yesterday we reported that a major security flaw had been found in iOS 4, which would allow anyone to bypass the iPhone password protection with a couple simple actions. In my article I reported that Apple would most likely fix that with the future release of iOS 4.2, sometimes in the next few weeks.

It seems that I was right as an Apple spokeswoman gave Wired the following statement:

PwnageTool 4.1.1 is Out to Fix Mac OS X 10.5 Issues

Couple of days back, PwnageTool 4.1 for Mac was released to jailbreak the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV on iOS 4.1. Some Mac OS X 10.5.x users were experiencing issues with this version so the iPhone Dev Team today released PwnageTool 4.1.1 to fix any issues on Mac OS X 10.5.x.

PwnageTool works only on Mac OS X and it's a jailbreak tool based on creating pre-jailbroken custom firmwares while preserving your baseband to be able to unlock your iPhone after upgrading using the custom firmware.

You can download PwnageTool and check our step by step guide posted here to jailbreak your device using PwnageTool for Mac then follow this guide to unlock iOS 4.1 using Ultrasn0w and tell us how it worked for you!

UPDATE: Version 4.1.2 is out. You can get it from our iPhone download sections.
