Update

Can’t update your iPhone or iPad over the air or using iTunes? We have a fix

I've been trying to update my iPad over the air to iOS 5.1 ever since it was released this last Wednesday. Unfortunately, it kept throwing an error saying "Unable to Check for Update. An error occurred while checking for a software update."

At first, I assumed that Apple's servers were being slammed, but it's now been two days and I still couldn't update, constantly getting this "unable to check for update" error.

So I decided to plug my iPad in to update it the good old way, you know, using iTunes. But iTunes was not very cooperating either as it kept throwing this error: "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPad. The network connection could not be established."

After a bit of googling, I found the solution to my problem:

FireCore updates its aTV Flash (black) software to version 1.4

FireCore published a blog post earlier today announcing a new update to its aTV Flash (black) suite. The software package can add a lot of functionality to your jailbroken Apple TV, including an integrated web browser and non-iTunes content support.

The update, which brings the software to version 1.4, includes a number of new features and bug fixes. Keep reading for the full change log...

Apple releases iTunes 10.6

While we've already heard about Apple's new iPad and Apple TV, a few more things are trickling out after the event that just wrapped up in California. Along with iOS 5.1 and the new iPhoto for iPad, Apple will also launch iTunes 10.6 this afternoon.

There's no word on new features, but it will of course feature support for iOS 5.1...

AT&T responds to complaints, ups throttling limit to 3GB

AT&T has been under a lot of scrutiny lately due to its new data throttling practices. Last Fall, the carrier started significantly reducing the data speeds of its unlimited customers who were using more than 2GB a month.

The move prompted multiple complaints from subscribers, and even sparked a string of small claims court lawsuits. Well apparently all of the heat was too much for the carrier, as it appears it has just revamped its throttling policy...

More evidence surfaces of upcoming Apple TV refresh

Yesterday, 9to5Mac reported that it had heard from reliable sources that Apple was on the verge of releasing a new Apple TV. The site claimed that there's a good chance that we could see the product unveiled alongside the new iPad next week.

The report makes sense, considering the previous proof we've seen that an ATV refresh was on the way. But in case you needed any more convincing, AppleInsider has uncovered some new evidence...

OnLive Desktop brings Flash to your iPad

In January, OnLive introduced a new app called OnLive Desktop, which brings a full version of Windows 7 and Home Office to the iPad for free. OnLive Desktop beams the full version of Windows 7 to the iPad from their gigabit connected servers, and actually works quite well.

Tonight, the OnLive crew has announced a new premium version of the app, called OnLive Desktop Plus, that brings Adobe's Flash technology to the iPad...

The painful process of updating a book purchased in the iBookstore

I've never been interested into reading books on my iPad or iPhone for a couple reasons. First, I spend all day staring at a screen, so when I want to relax and read a book, I want to look at anything but another screen. Second, and maybe more importantly, having developed bad carpal tunnel syndrome from spending too much time on a computer, I really don't need to make things worse by holding an iPad in my hand when I want to read.

This being said, I understand the practicality of reading books on an iPad or any eReader. You can fit many more books in an iPad than you could in the trunk of your car. Besides, this post isn't about why I like or dislike the iBookstore. It's about the process of updating a book purchased on it...

Apple TV disappears from Best Buy inventory ahead of expected refresh

The Apple TV is in an interesting spot right now. Apple introduced the media hub, in its current form, all the way back in September of 2010. So in comparison to the company's other iOS products, the ATV is long overdue for a refresh.

But given all of the rumors that we've heard that Apple is building a full blown TV set, you have to wonder if we'll see another iteration of the set-top-box. Well whatever the next 'Apple TV' product is, we could see it very soon...

Rumor: Pre-GM version of iOS 5.1 leaked

That being said, the folks over at BlogdoiPhone are claiming that they've managed to acquire a Pre-GM version of iOS 5.1. And among the new features they've discovered, is a new Lock Screen camera icon (pictured above)...
