Angela Ahrendts starts role as SVP of Retail and Online Stores at Apple

Angela Ahrendts has left fashion retailer Burberry and started her new position at Apple as the Senior Vice President of Retail and Online Stores, according to an update to Apple's Executive Profiles website on Friday.

Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, confirmed on the company's quarterly earnings call last week that Ahrendts would be starting at the Cupertino-based company this week, following now-false rumors she would be staying on at Burberry until June.

You can have lunch with Tim Cook, for a sizable charity donation

CharityBuzz is running a campaign for one donor to have lunch with Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, at the Cupertino-based headquarters. The donor will have to make the highest, sizable donation, to benefit the RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights.

The lunch donated by Cook himself, has an estimated value of $100,000, with the current bid on Tuesday currently sitting at $50,000. If past charity drives from Cook are any indication, the lunch should blow past the estimated value...

Cook on why Apple isn’t rushing out new products

Following Apple's earnings release yesterday, Tim Cook expectedly teased new products on a conference call with Wall Street analysts and investors. Hints of new gadgets were also dropped in Apple's media release announcing the earnings.

“We’re eagerly looking forward to introducing more new products and services that only Apple could bring to market,” Cook was quoted as saying in Apple's press release.

And now responding to pressure from analysts who demand new-category devices, Cook sat down with The Wall Street Journal on Thursday to reflect on Apple's development process, touch on such subjects as mobile payments and explain why Apple isn't rushing out new stuff to market just to please investors...

Apple announces 20 million Apple TVs sold to date

During Apple's earnings call earlier this afternoon, CEO Tim Cook announced that the company crossed the 20 million sold mark for the Apple TV during the last quarter. The mention is noteworthy as Apple doesn't typically breakout numbers for the set-top box (though it has on occasion).

The move falls in line with Cook's previous sentiments regarding the Apple TV—at a shareholders meeting in February Cook said 'it’s a little more difficult to call the Apple TV a hobby these days,' and comes amid rumors that the company is preparing to launch a new version of the device...

Video: Tim Cook talks going green as Apple updates us on environmental initiatives

Tomorrow is Earth Day and Apple is getting ready to celebrate the occasion in ways more than one. We previously learned the firm will change the logo color of its retail stores to green in a move reminiscent of how it celebrated the World AIDS day.

Next, Apple's Vice President of Environmental Initiatives Lisa Jackson (she oversees the company's environmental policies) recently took select members of the press on a rare tour of Apple's upcoming data center and solar array facility in the Nevada desert.

And today, Apple has shared latest data on its environmental efforts on its newly revamped Environmental Responsibility website and posted a corporate video with Tim Cook discussing Apple's environmental strides...

Tim Cook made $74M last year, the highest among all tech CEOs except Zuckerberg

Apple CEO Tim Cook doesn't have an easy job. Not only is he in charge of one of the largest companies in the world, but he has to do so in the shadow of one of the most highly regarded executives of our generation, amidst constant criticism from those that say Apple's best days are behind it.

No need to worry though, Tim is well compensated. According to a new report, he took home $4.3 million in salary and incentives last year, and another $70 million in vested stock options. All told, Cook banked more than any other tech CEO in 2013 except for Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg...

Watch Jimmy Fallon introducing Billy Joel to iPad beatboxing app Loopy HD

Jimmy Fallon, the host of NBC's Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, gave Apple's iPad and a beatboxing thirdy-party app called Loopy HD a cool exposure during last night's show. Loopy HD costs eight bucks in the App Store and with it anyone can create music by layering looped recordings of singing, beatboxing or playing an instrument.

Loopy HD is rather sophisticated: it can receive live audio directly from other Audiobus-compatible apps like Apple's free GarageBand and more.

Jimmy and Billy Joel have used the app on air to loop their voices and form a two-man doo-wop group singing 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' by The Tokens in four-part harmony.

The video is a nice reminder that one can create quite remarkable music on the iPad. Even Apple's boss Tim Cook enthused over their "magical" performance...

Fortune ranks Tim Cook 33rd in list of world’s top 50 greatest leaders

Although a number of pundits pushing the popular 'Apple is doomed' narrative these days might disagree with me, I think Tim Cook has done a solid job at Apple thus far. Sure, its stock is currently way down from its peak, but the company is still turning a large profit.

And if you don't believe me, checkout Fortune's new list of the world's 50 greatest leaders. Ranked at #33, Cook is one of only two leaders from Silicon Valley to make the list, which includes the likes of Pope Francis and the Dalai Lama. The other is Amazon's Jeff Bezos...

Cook on Yukari’s anti-Apple book: ‘nonsense’ that fails to capture Apple or Steve Jobs

There isn't much to like about a new book on post-Jobs Apple by the former Wall Street Journal writer Yukari Iwatani Kane.

Conveniently titled Haunted Empire ($14.99 in the iBooks Store), it could have as well been named 'Apple Is Doomed' due to her pre-conceived conclusion that Apple's best days are behind.

The author claims to have based the material on about 200 interviews with current and former Apple executives, none of them named. This type of ill-conceived journalism is just sad: the hearsay is supposed to factualize that Apple's is in a disarray, declining and amid the "perils and opportunities an iconic company faces when it loses its visionary leader".

In one passage, the author describes Apple's current boss as a "machine" and "riveting," blasting him in another over a supposed “disastrous” AllThingsD appearance and questioning his leadership abilities because he's seemingly too demanding while also being too lax.

The scathing portrayal of post-Jobs Apple wasn't lost on the current CEO Tim Cook, who took to CNBC today to describe Haunted Empire as a nonsense attempt that "fails to capture" the essence of the company and its visionary founder Steve Jobs. Also, Kane responded back in an email statement to Re/code. Grab your popcorn...

Video of Tim Cook’s meeting with Israeli PM offers brief look inside Apple HQ

Earlier this week we noted that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would be touring the United States for a few days, and that one of his planned stops in the country would be at Apple's Cupertino, CA campus for a luncheon with Tim Cook.

Well that meeting took place on Wednesday, as evidenced by a newly uploaded video clip. It's not known exactly what the pair discussed, but the video itself is rather interesting as it offers a brief look inside the walls of Apple's usually-secret headquarters...

Israeli Prime Minister meeting Tim Cook today

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, currently touring the United States this week for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) annual conference, is planning a swing through the Silicon Valley, the first California visit from an Israeli prime minister since 2006.

He's scheduled to have lunch with Apple CEO Tim Cook later today and will meet with WhatsApp co-founder Jan Koum, a Jewish Ukrainian immigrant who made a fortune by selling his startup to Facebook for $19 billion last month...

Tim Cook, Turkish president to attend opening of Apple’s Istanbul store on April 4

Earlier this year, Tim Cook traveled to Turkey to meet with the country's president, to reportedly discuss the opening of a retail store in Istanbul, research and development and other matters. The store opening is of particular significance, as it would be Apple's first in the region.

Well it looks like the talks were successful. According to Turkish Apple blog ElmaDergisi, Apple is set to open a retail store in Istanbul's Zorlu Center on April 4. And as proof of the gravity of the event, both Cook and Turkish president Abdullah Gül are expected to be in attendance...
