iOS 5 Gets a Jailbreak

Just like that, in less than 24 hours, iOS 5 has already been jailbroken. Dev Team frontman MuscleNerd posted photos of an iPod Touch 4G sporting the Cydia and iSSH icons. So far this is only a tethered jailbreak, which requires to be plugged in the computer at every reboot.

This jailbreak is not surprising in any ways because it is using the same bootrom exploit it's been using since iOS 4.X. Apple can only patch this bootrom exploit with a hardware update...

How to Untether RedSn0w Jailbreak for Verizon iPhone Running iOS 4.2.7

If you've jailbroken your Verizon iPhone 4 on iOS 4.2.7 with RedSn0w, you know that you've only got a tethered jailbreak. Lucky for you, there's a new Cydia package that allows you to untether your currently tethered RedSn0w jailbreak.

Following the update to Sn0wBreeze for the Verizon iPhone, an untether solution has been pushed for RedSn0w users and is now available in Cydia.

Reminder: Save Your SHSH Blobs for iOS 4.3.2

Earlier today, Apple released an FAQ to address the controversial location debacle. Apple acknowledged that there was a bug within iOS. When Location Services was turned off, the iPhone continued to updated WiFi and cell tower data from Apple's crowd-sourced database.

To address this issue, Apple announced that it would be releasing a software update within the next few weeks, most likely iOS 4.3.3. In addition to rectifying the location-tracking issues on iOS devices, Apple might also patch @i0n1c's untethered iOS 4.3.x jailbreak exploit, leaving you with a tethered jailbreak.

iOS 4.3.2 Still Vulnerable to i0n1c’s Untethered Exploit?

Famous userland jailbreak hacker @Comex has just tweeted some interesting information regarding the status of i0n1c's iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak exploit.

According to @Comex, i0n1c's untethered jailbreak kernel exploit used in redsn0w to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 doesn't seem to be patched yet in the new iOS 4.3.2 released earlier today...

Rebel SIM Provides Another iPhone Unlock Solution

With the iPhone Dev Team's inability to find a usable baseband exploit for the iPhone 4 and release a stable unlock for basebands 2.10.04, 3.10.01, and the newer 4.10.01, several alternate iPhone 4 unlock solutions have sprouted.

The first option was the Gevey SIM Interposer. Similar to a Turbo SIM, the Gevey SIM Interposer worked by adding a EEPROM chip to your SIM card. You would then call 112 from the Emergency Dialer screen. Once the call connected you would hang up then toggle Airport mode on and off. When the network connection resumed, your iPhone 4 would be unlocked.

This method would provide a "tethered" unlock, meaning that after you reboot your iPhone, you would need to repeat the unlock process. While the legality of the unlock solution was questionable at first, Dev Team member, MuscleNerd, confirmed the unlock method was illegal.

iPhone 3GS Running Untethered Jailbreak on iOS 4.3.1 with Sn0wbreeze Beta [Video]

The Windows jailbreak tool, Sn0wbreeze, was recently updated to perform a tethered jailbreak on iOS 4.3.1. We told you about the newest beta release a couple days ago, and many of you have successfully been able to jailbreak your iPhone on 4.3.1.

The biggest downer with the current Sn0wbreeze beta is that it's a tethered jailbreak, and we've recommended holding off on iOS 4.3.1 until an untethered solution is released from the Dev Team.

To our surprise, an iDB reader sent us a video of his iPhone 3GS running an untethered jailbreak after using the latest Sn0wbreeze 2.4b1...

Sn0wbreeze Beta Updated to Jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 [Tethered]

iH8Sn0w has released Sn0wbreeze 2.4b1, and the Windows jailbreak tool will now jailbreak iOS 4.3.1. There's already been a tethered jailbreak for 4.3.1 uncovered in PwnageTool, and both available jailbreaks are still tethered.

Sn0wbreeze is now the more stable option for jailbreak iOS 4.3.1, but there is still no untethered solution available. Jailbreak devs are working hard to release an official untethered jailbreak for the latest version of iOS, but there is no exact ETA set.

iOS 4.3.1 Already Jailbroken With PwnageTool 4.2 [Tethered]

The latest build of iOS has already been jailbroken! Thanks to the work of DjayB6 on the 4.3.1 jailbreak bundle and Universal Ramdisk Fixer, Apple's newest version of iOS has already got the jailbreak treatment.

PwnageTool 4.2 can be used to perform a tethered jailbreak for 4.3.1. This jailbreak method is not for the faint of heart, and is by no means considered a "stable" release for jailbreakers.

You will need several tools to perform a successful jailbreak of 4.3.1, and we have yet to hear about a stable untethered solution...

Sn0wBreeze 2.3 Beta 4 Released, Minor Bug Fixes

iH8Sn0w has pushed another update to his Windows jailbreak tool for iOS 4.3. Sn0wBreeze 2.3b4 adds some bug fixes and more baseband compatibility.

Sn0wBreeze 2.3 offers a tethered jailbreak solution for iOS 4.3, but the tool is still in beta. This means that stability is not guaranteed, and you should use it at your own risk...

Sn0wBreeze 2.3 Beta 2 Tethered iOS 4.3 Jailbreak Released

iH8sn0w has pushed another update to his Sn0wBreeze jailbreak solution for Windows. As the only current jailbreak tool for iOS 4.3, Sn0wBreeze 2.3 offers a tethered jailbreak for those unlucky enough to update their firmware to 4.3.

Sn0wBreeze 2.3b2 adds several improvements from the first beta, but nothing too significant. Sn0wBreeze 2.3 is still in beta, and iH8sn0w and team are working hard to create an untethered solution for the popular Windows jailbreak tool...

How to Jailbreak iOS 4.3 Using Sn0wBreeze 2.3 Beta

If you are one of the unlucky ones who upgraded to Apple's new 4.3 and lost their jailbreak, listen up. Although i0n1c said he would be waiting for iOS 4.3.1 to come out, to release a jailbreak, iH8sn0w has decided to give us Sn0wbreeze 2.3 beta to tide us over.

So if you have an iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad or iP0d touch and are running 4.3, let me give you a simple tutorial on how to jailbreak with Sn0wbreeze...

iOS 4.3 GM Can Be Jailbroken with PwnageTool 4.2 [Tethered]

We have released a detailed tutorial on how to jailbreak the GM developer build of iOS 4.3. Yesterday, Apple seeded the final developer build of iOS 4.3, and the public release of 4.3 will take place on March 11th.

People are wondering if Apple has patched the current jailbreak exploits in their latest version of iOS. Because the iPad 2 runs on different hardware, it will almost definitely need a new exploit for an untethered jailbreak. As far as the iPhone and iPod goes, we'll keep you updated...
