Microsoft treats all Office 365 subscribers to unlimited OneDrive storage, no strings attached

If you were sitting on the fence of subscribing to Office 365 just to gain editing functionality in Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps for the iPad, Microsoft has an offer that will knock your socks off.

All Office 365 subscribers now get unlimited OneDrive storage with their service, the team announced Monday.

Yup, storage limits just became a thing of the past.

And with the recently reduced monthly subscriptions now available as In-App Purchases in Office for iPad, you'll have unlimited OneDrive space for your photos, videos and other documents for as low as seven bucks per month. Again, that's unlimited OneDrive storage and Office from $7 per month.

You can now protect your OneDrive with Touch ID

Windows and Office maker Microsoft on Wednesday pushed a small but important update to OneDrive, its cloud storage client for the iPhone and iPad. The refreshed application enables users to lock content in the app using Touch ID-based fingerprint verification on the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The new OneDrive 4.5.1, a free 12.7-megabyte download from the App Store, also takes full advantage of the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, lets you sort files and folders and includes bug fixes and stability improvements.

Microsoft gives OneDrive new Photos view, multi-file selection and more

After launching the official Kindle Fire and Kindle Phone app about two weeks ago, today the Windows maker Microsoft gets to refresh the iOS edition of its OneDrive app.

FYI, OneDrive used to be formerly known as SkyDrive.

The official cloud-storage service client for the iPhone and iPad, the just-updated OneDrive version 4.4 comes with an updated Shared view and a brand new Photos view.

Acting as the Camera Roll folder on steroids, the Photos view collates all the photos in your OneDrive in one convenient place.

Sometimes, the most simple and obvious tips are the best. Everybody knows about them because they're usually based on good old common sense, yet, we usually forget about them. One such tip is to periodically clean up the Downloads folder of your Mac, which, depending on your setup and habits, could quickly go out of control.

The Downloads folder is the default location where any file you download from the internet is saved. Downloading the PDF of your bank statement? It's downloaded to the Downloads folder. Downloading a song from an unofficial source? It's most likely going to the Downloads folder.

Microsoft starts rolling out increased OneDrive storage today

A little over three weeks ago, Microsoft announced a forthcoming increase to OneDrive storage tiers, promising to more than double free 7GB accounts to as much as fifteen gigabytes of free cloud storage.

The Redmond company additionally promised a brand new 1TB tier for the consumer Office 365 accounts and up to seventy percent cheaper monthly subscriptions. Today, Microsoft has delivered on that promise.

Seagate’s Backup Plus line offers various storage options in small package

Seagate is the world's largest provider of external hard drives by volume. Personally, I have around five or more scattered around my home, office and desk--too many to attempt to round up for an accurate count. They make great LAN, portable, wireless, and desktop class storage. Of course Seagate makes internal drives as well, but my experience with them is less versed. As I have witnessed, assumedly along with others familiar with the product line, Seagate is now producing a more creative approach to an otherwise simple storage device.

External storage, as a whole, used to be a simple drag-and-drop venture. Arguably, it was a simpler time. I really appreciate the ability to just plug in a drive and drop stuff to it. However, with the advent of social media, home networking, and some creative thinking, external storage is now something much different. Considering the Seagate Backup Plus line of products, which I first discovered at CES 2014, social sharing and saving are now integrated with the drives...

Google Drive update adds passcode protection

Google's frontend iPhone and iPad app for its Drive cloud-storage service has received a much-needed passcode lock feature in an update this morning.

If your productivity depends on the Google cloud and you store your documents, presentations and spreadsheets in Google Drive, a thief was able to access all your files simply by launching the Drive app on a stolen device.

Fortunately enough, this won't be possible going forward as Google Drive 3.0 is now live in the App Store with a handy new passcode feature...

Amazon combines Cloud Drive and Kindle documents, giving you 10GB combined free storage

If you own a Kindle, check your Amazon Cloud Drive: you should now have ten gigabytes of cloud-based storage, twice as much as before.

On Wednesday, Amazon emailed its Kindle customers to let them know their Kindle documents had been integrated with their Cloud Drive, resulting in a combined ten gigs of free Amazon Cloud Drive storage.

The welcomed change applies to Kindle customers only, who can now use their combined account to store not only Kindle documents, but photos, videos and other file types as well...
