New Apple TV found to have A5X processor

There's been a lot of talk this week regarding the next-generation Apple TV. First, an unknown AppleTV 3,2 device popped up in Monday's iOS 6.1 release. And then yesterday, a slightly smaller ATV surfaced in some FCC documents.

So now that we know that Apple is readying a new set top box for release, the next question is: what improvements has it made? Well for starters, it looks like the device is going to get a performance bump with an A5X processor...

Why Apple rallying so much against plastic foreshadows a low-end iPhone

In the ongoing speculation surrounding Apple's intention to sell a low-cost iPhone, the word of the day is 'plastic'. Yes, the rumor is that the company will wrap iPhone 5 components and iPod design features in a plastic body. The report by iLounge is the second in two weeks suggesting an inexpensive iPhone may use plastic to keep costs down.

The blog cites only "reliable sources" to claim a low-cost iPhone would offer a four-inch Retina Display protected by the latest Gorilla Glass (see how strong it really is), among other features borrowed from the Apple smartphone, the fifth-gen iPod touch and the iPod classic.

Along with including the firm's new Lightning connector, the remainder of the device's features would follow the iPod touch design. The device's outer shape would appear like an iPod classic, the body composed of plastic...

Rumor: retooled Nexus 7 with 1080p display and iPad mini style bezels due in May

More tablet news for you this morning. After Apple officially announced via a press release that the new 128GB iPad 4 option is launching on February 5 (is it too pricey? You tell us!), we're hearing now that Google and its manufacturing partner Asus are working on a 2nd gen Nexus. The re-tooled version of the popular low-cost tablet is said to sport a display with 1080p resolution (1,920-by-1,080 pixels) and the skinnier side bezels akin to Apple's iPad mini.

It should cost the same as the first-generation model (between $199-249, depending on networking and storage options) and will run Google's upgraded Jelly Bean-based Android operating system...

Photos of alleged next-gen iPad shell surface

Even though it's only been a few months since Apple unveiled the fourth-generation iPad, the rumor mill is already rife with iPad 5 talk. The tablet has reportedly been redesigned to look like the iPad mini, with a thinner profile and smaller bezels.

Well if that really is the case, then this purported next-gen iPad shell fits the bill perfectly. It's dipped in the same black & slate color as the iPad mini, and features a similar design with chamfered edges and a smaller overall footprint...

Budget iPhone design to be a mix of iPhone 5, iPod touch and iPod classic

The so-called budget iPhone rumors have been really heating up over the past month. And today, more fuel is added to the fire. Following up their report last week regarding next-gen iPhones and iPads, iLounge is back with some new details on the low-end device.

Citing 'reliable sources,' the site says that the handset will be "substantially made from plastic," and design-wise, it will look like a cross between the iPhone 5, the fifth generation iPod touch and the iPod classic...

Confirmed: Apple’s new R&D center going live this summer in Shanghai

Earlier in the month, the major Chinese web portal Tencent claimed Apple was looking to establish a research and development center in Beijing and last week Cnet China corroborated the story, but noted that the rumored six-story facility with over 100,000 square feet of space is actually going up in Shanghai. Today, a new report from another Chinese news site give us more in way of details...

128GB iPad 4 to start at $799

A brand new SKU (Stock-Keeping Unit) in the full-size iPad lineup that one blog obtained from retail sources suggested that Apple's readying to add a new top-of-the-line fourth-generation iPad model with 128 gigabytes of storage. The development corroborates an earlier finding of code hooks in iTunes 11 and iOS 6.1 that points to the new 128GB full-size iPad model. And now, the same publication that leaked the 128GB SKU claims to have pinpointed the prices for this "Ultimate" iPad model...

Apple readying new ‘Ultimate’ iPad with Retina display

9to5Mac's Mark Gurman has received word from sources, which indicate Apple's eventual release of a brand new SKU in the full-sized iPad lineup. The report aligns well with the 128GB iOS device finding that we posted in the early hours this morning.

Interestingly, Gurman's sources pinpoint the exact device lineup that the SKU is targeted to hit — the full-sized forth generation iPad with Retina Display.

Claimed iPhone 5S/6 speakers leak

The next iPhone is very likely just a few short months away so little wonder that slowly but surely first pieces of the puzzle are beginning to surface.

iOS hacker iH8sn0w today tweeted that future-generation iOS gadgets could add a new 128GB model, twice as much as today's top-of-the-line iPhones, iPads and iPods.

And on Friday, the usually credible iLounge posted a bunch of interesting tidbits pointing to a fifth-gen Pad with iPad mini-like design and a 13-megapixel back camera being the star feature of the iPhone 5S, among other goodies.

That's all hearsay, but now a leaked part has come our way, purportedly representing a speaker assembly for future-generation iPhones...

iPhone 5S said to feature upgraded camera, new iPad Mini coming in October

Following up on this morning's report of Apple's plans for this year's iPhone and iPad updates, iLounge has posted a new article with additional information. The intel comes from a 'trusted source,' and offers product code names and other specifics.

The previous scoop claimed that the iPad 5 has been redesigned, with iPad mini-like bezels and size, and has a target date of October. Details of the iPhone 5S were less bountiful, but the site has now elaborated on it and added remarks on the new mini...

Rumor: iPad 5 to feature mini-like design, iPhone 5S to look similar to current model

The often accurate Jeremy Horwitz of iLounge just published a monster report with details regarding the new iPad, and Apple's two new iPhones coming later this year. Horwitz nailed the iPhone 5 last May, and has a fairly good track record, so people tend to listen when he talks.

For starters he dishes about the iPad 5, saying the tablet has been completely redesigned with virtually no left or right bezels, and less space above and below the screen. It's described as a "stretched iPad mini," with chamfered edges, and is smaller than you'd imagine possible...

Apple rumored to tap Qualcomm’s low-end Snapdragon chip for budget iPhone

The less-pricey iPhone rumor just wouldn't die. Today, Forbes reports that the Cupertino, California firm is likely to use Qualcomm's less powerful lower-end Snapdragon processor for the rumored budget iPhone thought to be targeted to price-sensitive shoppers in emerging markets like China, Brazil and elsewhere where carriers rarely subsidize handsets.

The story has it that such a device would not need the same kind of graphics, video and processing power as premium iPhones do and using Qualcomm's integrated solution could enable the company to integrate the CPU, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on a single chip rather than have three separate chips. As a result, Cook & Co. would be able to minimize costs, a necessity should Apple pursue the rumored $149 price point...
