Niantic hosts another double XP event for Pokémon GO during Thanksgiving week

Pokémon GO players had a chance to participate in the Halloween event last month, in which ghost Pokémon spawns were increased, distances to hatch eggs were decreased, and double candies was rewarded for the entire week the event ran for.

Now, Niantic has announced a second event coming to the game in celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday this week, but this time the rewards are a little different.

A quick look at upcoming “TV” app on Apple TV

Apple's dedicated “TV” app, announced at last month's Mac event, a week ago made an appearance on iOS 10.2 beta 2. Yesterday, Apple released third developer-only betas of iOS 10.2 and tvOS 10.1 and the new TV app has replaced the stock Videos app and its accompanying widget on iOS devices.

And now, various web and Twitter reports have confirmed seeing the TV app on the Home screen of their Apple TV after updating to tvOS 10.1 beta 3.

Here's a quick visual overview of the TV app's single-interface design on the fourth-generation Apple TV along with other features like the ability to change the default function of the Siri Remote's Home button.

Microsoft is bringing integrated developer environment Visual Studio to the Mac

Visual Studio, an integrated development environment from Microsoft, is coming to the Mac. That's according to Redmond's prematurely published and now-deleted press release that TechCrunch spotted Monday. Microsoft's Xcode of sorts, Visual Studio is used to develop native Windows apps, as well as websites, web apps and Azure-driven cloud services.

Visual Studio for Mac should be formally announced at the Connect() conference later this week. Microsoft previously brought its cross-platform code editor, Visual Studio Code, to macOS.

Apple launches new ‘iBooks StoryTime’ app on tvOS

Apple on Thursday quietly launched a new app for tvOS called "iBooks StoryTime." It's a children's app that allows them to read along with their favorite [compatible] books using special features built for television.

These features include enhanced audio with unique character voices, sound effects and of course narration that makes it both easy and entertaining for kids to follow along with on their own devices or physical book.

ROME: Total War hits iPad as a premium $9.99 download without In-App Purchases

As promised, the iconic PC strategy game ROME: Total War today launched on the iPad as a $9.99 download from the App Store. Yes, you can now enjoy the grandeur, glory and brutality of Ancient Rome on your Apple tablet.

The game contains no IAPs and was ported to the iPad by Feral Interactive. Originally developed for PCs by The Creative Assembly and released in 2004 by Activision, it's one of the best reviewed strategy titles of all time.

Dedicated Apple Support app soft-launches in the Netherlands

A year ago, screenshots and information leaked concerning Apple's dedicated iPhone app designed to consolidate users' support, repair and troubleshooting needs in the palm of their hand. Last evening, a brand new Apple Support app launched on the App Store in The Netherlands ahead of its presumed staggered rollout around the world.

With it, owners of iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices can explore their support options, schedule repair appointments, manage AppleCare services and more.

Hit PC/Mac strategy game ROME: Total War is launching on iPad later this week

Mac and Linux games publisher Feral Interactive has confirmed today that it will be bringing the iconic PC strategy game ROME: Total War to the iPad this coming Thursday. “On November 10, the grandeur, glory and brutality of Ancient Rome comes to iPad,” said the company.

The premium title is priced at $9.99 and includes no In-App Purchases whatsoever. Feral is promising touch-friendly controls, optimized Retina graphics with updated textures and other enhancements.

This marks the first time ROME: Total War has been ported to mobile devices.
