What Apple should do with its money

Sunday night, when Apple announced that it was going to be holding a conference call the following morning regarding its plans for its massive cash pile, the internet ran wild with speculation.

We heard all kinds of theories, ranging from a surprise Twitter buyout to a small carrier acquisition. But Apple's actual announcement of dividends and stock buybacks was much more tame.

While this outcome might have appeased investors, it left some of us wanting more. Here's what I think the company should do with its money...

Tim Cook says Apple has a “pipeline full of stuff”

As expected, Apple held a conference call this morning to discuss plans regarding its stockpile of cash. Although investor relations and iPad numbers were the highlights of the call, Tim Cook did make another interesting announcement.

When asked about Apple's growth outlook — now that it's going to spend $10 billion dollars repurchasing stock, investors want to know how it's going to make that money back — Cook said that Apple's "pipeline is full of stuff..."

Apple announces dividends and share repurchase program

Apple CEO Tim Cook just announced the company's plans on what to do with their cash balance at this morning's conference call. Tim Cook announced that the Cupertino company plans to initiate a dividend and share repurchase program beginning later this year.

Cook said the company will offer a quarterly dividend of $2.65 a share in the fourth quarter of its fiscal 2012 beginning in July. Additionally, Apple announced its Board of Directors has authorized a $10 billion share repurchase program starting in fiscal 2013, which begins September 30. Apple said it expected the move to take place over three years and said its goal was "neutralizing the impact of dilution from future employee equity grants and employee stock purchase programs."

Apple to make big announcement tomorrow regarding cash balance

During Apple's quarterly earnings call earlier this year, it was discovered that the company's pile of cash was approaching the $100 billion dollar mark. And everyone wants to know what it plans to do with it.

Well it looks like we won't have to wait much longer to find out. As noted by MacStories, Apple has just sent out a press release announcing that it will be holding a conference call early tomorrow morning regarding its massive cash balance...

The new iPad costs Apple at least $316 to build

It's become something of a ritual for some. Apple releases a new device, be it iPhone or iPad, and then someone waits patiently to get their hands on it with the sole aim of ripping it apart. It's a regular assurance these days, and the new iPad has suffered the same fate as its brethren.

This time around, amongst others, IHS iSuppli got their hands on a new iPad and set about doing the only honorable thing: ripping it apart with the sole aim of trying to figure out just how much one of these things costs to make and, thus, how much the device is adding to Apple's world famous bottom line.

The answer very much depends on the model sold, but regardless, Apple is indeed making plenty of profit on each iPad sold...

Apple stock touched above $600 per share this morning

It would seem as if Apple could do no wrong these days. It recently introduced a new tablet that, even though it has yet to officially go on sale, has created quite the buzz among consumers. And its stock has just hit an all time high.

At the end of February, AAPL was flirting with the $550 per share mark. But it fell back down below $520 just before the new iPad was unveiled. Ever since then, however, the stock has been on an unstoppable upward climb...

Apple offering up to $320 for iPad 2 trade-ins

Apple to spend $304 million to create 3,600 new jobs in Austin, TX

Apple may be on the end of bad press regarding its manufacturing processes of late, but it is set to bring thousands of new jobs to the United states and more specifically, in Austin, Texas.

The state announced today that Apple plans to invest $304 million to bring around 3,600 jobs to the area as part of the expansion of its existing facilities there.

The news will possibly go some way to improving the iPad maker's reputation, with news of poor working conditions in Chinese factories causing more than a few headaches for those in Cupertino...

Apple to keep entry-level iPad 2 around for $399

It looks like a lot of our forecasts are materializing today, including the iPad 2 sticking around. We figured we'd see Apple continue to sell last year's tablet after today, with a bit of a price drop to appeal to a wider audience.

It looks like Apple is starting to grow weary of patent litigation. Hot on the heels of word that the company won a major victory in a Chicago court today, reports are coming in now that the iPhone makers are looking to settle some of its lawsuits involving Android partners.

According to Dow Jones Newswires, Apple has issued proposals to both Samsung and Motorola Mobility to settle several pending patent disputes in exchange for royalty payments to license its intellectual property...

Rumor: iPad 3 pricing and configurations revealed

While we're fairly certain about most of the iPad 3's features and even its release date, pricing and configuration has remained a bit of a mystery. A purported iPad pricing matrix surfaced on the web earlier this week claiming that the new tablet would be more expensive than its predecessors, but otherwise we haven't heard a peep.
