How to Customize Your ‘Slide to Unlock’ Knob

ColoredKnob is a perfect example of the adage that simplicity = generally awesome. Placing a colored slide to unlock nub on an otherwise overcast iOS lock screen looks incredible, as you'll no doubt agree from our photos and video.

As most of you know, I pride myself in maintaining the stock iOS water droplets wallpaper, which isn't the most interesting piece of work on the block, in fact it's quite snore-worthy.

That’s why I like this tweak so much; add it to the stock wallpaper, and bam, it's a whole new work of art.

Don't believe me? See for yourselves...

Upcoming Jailbreak Tweak Promises Deep Siri Customization

If you're looking to customize Siri on your jailbroken iDevice, then there are already a few options available on Cydia.

AssistantExtensions, and SiriToggles are perhaps two of the best examples of Siri customization on a jailbroken device, but there's one in the works that's looking like a winner as well.

Indeed, MySiri — an upcoming Siri tweak — promises to add a ridiculous amount of end-user control to the Siri interface.

Co-developers Andrea Oliva & Akhil Tolani provided us with a sneak peak of the upcoming tweak. Check inside as we give it the full video preview...

Top Jailbreak Videos of the Week

Last week's jailbreak theme was overwhelmingly Siri. Apple's mobile assistant finally started to gain some useful jailbreak tweaks thanks to the iPhone 4S untethered jailbreak. We also covered how to get XBMC on your iPhone and other portable iOS devices to really open up its media capabilities.

Please be sure to share our iPhone, iPad, and iOS video guides by spreading our posts on Twitter and Facebook.

HomePlayer: A Fully Focused Audio Interface for the Music App

HomePlayer is a jailbreak tweak that brings a fully focused audio experience to your SpringBoard. It interfaces directly with the Music app to bring a full screen music playing session to the Home Screen.

When I say "fully focused" I truly mean it, as the app completely disables the Home button's functionality to prevent users from exiting the interface.

It's an interesting concept, although it can be a bit buggy at times. In the end it's an obvious 1.0 tweak that can go as far as its developers decide to take it...

‘LockscreenSureCam’ Checks Before Launching the Camera App

Do you have an ongoing issue with accidentally launching the Lock Screen camera in iOS 5? If so, then perhaps this is the jailbreak tweak for you.

LockscreenSureCam is a tweak that prompts you before launching the Camera on your Lock Screen. I don't know anyone who's ever had a problem with this, but I'm sure someone is out there that does. If that's you, then check inside for a brief video walkthrough.

SlyCam: Snap Photos From Notification Center

Every few months there seems to be a jailbreak tweak that's released to cater to the James Bond wannabes out there, and SlyCam is the latest addition to the cache.

SlyCam allows one to covertly snap photos directly from iOS 5's Notification Center. Check out our video coverage of the jailbreak tweak inside...

How to Add a Google Trends Stock Ticker to Your iPhone

Besides perhaps Twitter, Google Trends are a good way to gauge what's hot on the web, and now there's a pint-sized version for iPhone owners.

GTrends for Notification Center is a jailbreak widget that conveniently places a trending stock ticker into Notification Center.

You can even launch any of the top 20 trending topics directly from the widget, and use your own custom search queries.

GTrends is an interesting tool that allows you to easily keep your fingers on the pulse of the web...

RestartAlerter: Be Alerted When Your Device Reboots or Resprings

Sometimes our iDevice's act crazy, unpredictable even. Sometimes, it's necessary to attempt to troubleshoot issues.

That's pretty much the only reason I could ever see a tweak like RestartAlerter coming into play; when troubleshooting issues.

Yep, it's a tweak that alerts your when your iDevice restarts or resprings, and that's pretty much all it does...

Make Your Dock Icons Do Tricks With IconBounce

There are some jailbreak utilities that are considered to be more or less essential. In fact, Sebastien wrote a post this morning detailing his top 10 must-have tweaks. Then there are others that don't really serve much of a purpose.

IconBounce definitely falls in the latter category. It's a simple utility that makes the dock icons on your iOS 4 or iOS 5 device do summersaults, flips, and other tricks without the need to mess with a bunch of settings...

xMessages: Add Contact Pictures to Your Messages App

If you're looking for a jailbreak tweak that embeds your contact photos into your native Messages app, there's a couple of options. There's Copic, which adds photos to multiple applications, as well as other apps like ChatPic.

Today we'll add another one to the pile with xMessages. The utility, which recently appeared in Cydia, takes the images from your contact list and applies them to your messaging threads in the default Messages app...

My Top 10 Jailbreak Tweaks

I consider myself a strong advocate of the jailbreak cause. Ever since ziPhone – the first jailbreak ever released – came out, all my iDevices have been jailbroken and even unlocked when possible.

I love jailbreaking for two reasons. First, I jailbreak because I can. If there is a way to do things not the way they were intended to be, then count me in. Second, and more importantly, I jailbreak because it gives me access to a plethora of features that Apple hasn't implemented yet, or will never implement for some reasons.

For the past three months, I've used a stock iPhone 4S. Obviously that was not my choice. There just wasn't a jailbreak until Absinthe came out last week. But things are back to normal now.

Every time I jailbreak a new device for the first time, I try to reconsider what I really use, and what I really need. I also try to take into account a few things, like stability. If certain apps gave me headaches in the past, I'll just make sure not to install them again (goodbye WinterBoard). It's the perfect occasion to start on a clean slate.

This being said, I'd like to share with you all the jailbreak tweaks that are currently installed on my iPhone 4S...
