“Something even bigger” coming as Angry Birds Space clear 50M downloads

Angry Birds Space, the latest installment in the popular birds vs. pigs videogame series, has amassed more than 50 million downloads on all platforms in the 35 days since its March 22 launch, Rovio announced on Twitter this morning.

This makes Angry Birds Space "one of the fastest growing games ever" and by far the fastest-growing game on mobile, the company bragged.

Previously, the game zoomed past the ten million mark in less than three days. Rovio largely owes such a successful launch to Angry Birds's seemingly unstoppable popularity, still rising across the globe. Another crucial factor: Apple's iOS platform which now powers more than 365 million devices, as this is where the vast majority of paid downloads occur...

Thieves beware: this iPhone will self-destruct in 5 seconds

In the world of iPhone rumors, things tend to get a tad ridiculous at times. In fact, if we were to believe some of the reports we've heard, Apple's next smartphone will have a 5-inch screen and be machined from liquid metal.

Well the folks over at AatmaStudio, known for their powerful Apple product concepts, have taken ridiculous to the next level. Check out their vision for the next iPhone, and its cool self-destructing remote-wipe feature...

Apple seriously considered giving the iPhone a physical keyboard

We've heard rumors in the past that Apple had an iPhone prototype with a physical keyboard floating around its Cupertino labs. But the speculation has never been confirmed or denied. Until now.

Tony Fadell, a long-time Apple employee turned Nest founder, was on The Verge's tech talk show On The Verge last night. And the ex-Senior Vice President dropped some insider information about Apple's popular handset...

Apple’s new celebrity iPhone 4S ads are testing well with viewers

Last week, two new iPhone 4S commercials surfaced starring Samuel L. Jackson and Zooey Deschanel. And given the fact that Apple hasn't used celebrities in its TV spots in quite some time, there was some questions on who was behind the ads.

Well as it turns out, Apple was. And apparently it was a smart move. According to Ace Metrix, an advertising tracking firm, the celebrity iPhone 4S ads are generating higher scores with consumers than any other 4S ads aired this year...

How to restore your SAM unlock activation ticket to unlock your iPhone

Since it appears that Apple has fixed the issue with their activation servers, latecomers to the SAM iPhone unlock party are left in the lurch. Fortunately, not all users have lost the potential to unlock their iPhones.

Those who were proactive enough to unlock their iPhone using SAM, and backed up their activation tickets can still easily restore those tickets and unlock their iPhones if they have to restore their device for whatever reason.

If you're currently unlocked on an unofficial SIM by means of the SAM unlock, backup your activation ticket now before you lose it. We can't stress this enough.

Keep in mind that you will still need a jailbroken iPhone to accomplish this, and you will need your backed up Lockdown folder that you saved-off after successfully unlocking your device the first go-round...

If you meet the criteria, step right inside and take a look at our easy to follow guide for restoring your iPhone unlock...

It looks like the SAM iPhone unlock no longer works

Many readers are reporting that — as suggested last night — Apple has fixed its issue with its activation server that the SAM unlock method relied on.

I've tested the tried and true unlock method that I posted yesterday, and indeed, it's not working for me either.

For those that did successfully use the SAM tool to unlock your iPhone before today, congratulations. Now we just hope that you are proactive enough to backup your activation ticket either manually, or via RedSn0w...

Did Apple just kill Chomp for Android?

As we told you, Apple in February acquired Chomp for an undisclosed sum. Chomp is a popular recommendation engine that makes iOS and Android app discovery a more efficient and pleasing experience.

Coincidentally or not, the California-based powerhouse has now pulled Chomp for Android from the rival Google Play marketplace, also removing the Android app search option from the Chomp website.

The iPhone maker also submitted a Form S-8 regulatory filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), detailing stock options to Chomp's twenty employees...

Apple snagged nearly 10% of mobile phone market last quarter

When Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone back in 2007, he said that Apple was looking to sell 10 million iPhones in 2008. This would've given it a measly 1% of the mobile phone market. Well Jobs would be happy to hear that Apple's marketshare is now roughly 10x that.

According to a new report from Strategy Analytics, the Cupertino company accounted for 9.5% of all global handset shipments in the first quarter of 2012. Apple also kept its spot as the third largest mobile phone manufacturer during the three month period...

Twitter for iPhone updated with push notification improvements and more

Twitter has just announced that it has pushed a new version of Twitter for iPhone to the App Store. The app entails a number of updates including an improved Discover tab and more functionality for its push notification feature.

The Twitter app has received a lot of criticism over the redesign it received back in December of last year. In fact, a lot of folks left it for other third-party clients. Well this new update may be enough to win some of them back...
