You Can Now Buy AppleCare+ Within 30 Days of Your iPhone Purchase

Apple introduced AppleCare+ alongside the release of the iPhone 4S, and there's been plenty of confusion surrounding the new warranty plan since then. Instead of the typical AppleCare plan that has been in place for years, AppleCare+ offers extended coverage to new iPhone customers with new requirements.

If you bought an iPhone 4S on launch day, you're unable to buy AppleCare+ now. If you plan on purchasing the iPhone 4S, or didn't buy it on launch day, you have a 30-day window to purchase the plan before you're left out in the unprotected cold.

The industry was shocked when Apple announced that the iPhone would only be available on AT&T in the summer of 2007. While many phone makers tried to get their handsets on as many carriers as possible, Apple entered into an exclusive agreement with AT&T that lasted until February of this year.

iOS Loses Market Share to Android in Recent Quarter

Despite the 17.3 million units pushed in the third quarter this year, Apple's iOS platform has actually lost market share to Google's Android, according to Gartner. The iOS platform made up 15% of the market, which is a 1.6% loss from last year's third quarter. This loss comes contrasts with the huge growth that Android has seen this last quarter, with the little green robot doubling its shares since last year and making up over 50% of all smartphones sold in the three-month period.

Although Apple held its ground with a significant year over year increase in sales, it's very evident that the Android platform is expanding quickly. Nokia's Symbian platform has taken a hard loss this quarter, bringing in less than half of what it did last year. RIM, also saw a 4% decrease, going from 15.4% market share to only 11% this year.

iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS Still Top Dog For Smartphone Sales in Q3

It would appear that the prospect of a new iPhone being announced alongside a price drop for existing models didn't disuade purchasers from picking up an iPhone 4 or 3GS during Q3, with Apple's two older handsets continuing to rule the roost in the US.

New figures from NPD show that both the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS continued to sell strongly during the third quarter, with the premium iPhone 4 sitting pretty above its cheaper brother and a host of Android-powered devices.

Despite Android outselling iOS as a platform, Apple's hardware is still proving to be the most favored by buyers, with HTC, Motorola, and Samsung taking the remaining places in the top 5 handsets by units sold...

Samsung Won’t Try to Block iPhone 4S Sales in Korea

Looks like Samsung changed their mind about trying to block sales of the iPhone 4S in Korea.

Samsung Electronics has decided not to seek an injunction against the sale of Apple's iPhone 4S in the domestic market. The new iPhone went on sale here last Friday. Samsung had debated until the last moment whether to file the motion after making similar applications in France, Italy, Australia, and Japan.

The decision was apparently driven by public-relations concerns. A senior Samsung executive said, "We concluded that we should engage in legal battles with Apple only in the global market, but not in order to gain more market share in Korea."

I guess Samsung would rather engage legal battles in larger markets, like France, Germany, etc... This is obviously a work in progress.

India Set to Get Apple’s iPhone 4S on November 25th

Those living in India won't have much longer to wait before they can get their hands on an iPhone 4S, according to reports.

The Times of India is reporting that Apple will begin selling its latest iPhone through at least one of its usual carrier partners in the country on November 25th, with both Bharti Airtel and Aircel set to offer the popular handset.

Aircel has already begun teasing the iPhone 4S to customers via its official Facebook page, similar to what UK and other international carriers did before their respective launches...

Are New Bugs Joining the iPhone 4S Battery Drain Issues in iOS 5.0.1?

Apple recently released iOS 5.0.1 to the public in an attempt to fix the battery life issues that have been plaguing iPhone 4S owners on iOS 5.0. Prior to releasing 5.0.1 to the public, Apple seeded two developer betas of the software.

While iOS 5.0.1 was intended to fix poor battery performance on particularly the iPhone 4S, Apple released a statement after the fact saying that, "We continue to investigate a few remaining issues." Now, it seems that a new host of bugs have joined the mix for many users on iOS 5.0.1.
