eBay gains Now feature, in-app alerts, better search, bonus offers, charity donations and more

eBay, an e-commerce website, has a nice iPhone and iPad app which has just gotten a whole lot more useful. Now available as an iOS 7.0-only download from the App Store, the new eBay version 3.4 offers a plethora of new features, refinements and improvements that advance the experience.

For starters, the software now delivers important alerts inside itself when using the app.

Moreover, the eBay Now feature for finding and buying products from local stores is now integrated and you can check a buyer's location when reviewing a Best Offer. You can also explore bonus offers from eBay sellers, donate a percentage of your sales toward charity purposes and more.

Amazon updates Cloud Drive Photos with AirPlay, photo/video metadata, cache settings and more

The online retail giant Amazon on Tuesday refreshed its Cloud Drive Photos application for the iPhone and iPad with some much-needed new features.

Used to synchronize and protect your photos and personal videos on your iOS device with Amazon's cloud-based storage dubbed Cloud Drive, the free application now supports AirPlay, a media-streaming technology from Apple, so you can stream your photos and videos wirelessly to the big screen TV through the Apple TV box.

Also, you can finally rename albums and easily change an album's cover photo by swiping left/right on the album artwork. Most importantly, the app finally applies proper metadata to your photos and videos, including date taken, resolution, image type and file name.

Microsoft updates Office for iPad apps with more affordable monthly subscriptions

Windows maker Microsoft has just refreshed its Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps for iPad with support for month-to-month Office 365 subscriptions, the team announced today in a blog post.

Before, users were only able to buy a yearly Office 365 subscription within the Office for iPad apps.

Starting today, the refreshed Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications allow you to take advantage of Apple's In-App Subscription feature to buy recurring monthly subscriptions for Office 365 Personal and Office 365 Home.

Netflix Recommend with Facebook-enabled private video sharing now available

Netflix for the iPhone and iPad now allows you to privately recommend movies and television shows to a cherry-picked selection of Facebook friends who have connected their Facebook account with Netflix, but fortunately without spamming their News Feed, wrote the firm Tuesday in a post over at the official blog.

The social recommendation feature is available to Netflix users in the United States and Canada starting today.

Dubbed Netflix Recommend, it's “another great way to discover your next favorite show,” as the popular on-demand streaming service put it.

Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage goes free as Apple’s App of the Week

Apple has named Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage it's App of the Week for this week. This means that from now through next Thursday, you’ll be able to pick up the popular game for both iPhone and iPad for free—a decent savings of $1.

For those who aren't familiar with the game, it was created by Angry Birds hit-maker Rovio Entertainment and Nitrome. It's essentially a Cut The Rope-style physics-based puzzler, which has you rescuing vikings from blocks of ice.

IMDb pulls ‘On DVD/Blu-ray’ pages and external links, adds showtimes refinements

IMDb, an Amazon-owned online database of information related to films, television programs and video games, has a nice iPhone and iPad app. As of today, it's become a tad more useful while also retiring a pair of handy features.

Now bumped to version 4.4, the refreshed software makes a few unexpected changes to the experience. First up, the 'On DVD/Blu-ray' pages have been removed completely because the data source the app was using "wasn’t up to snuff".

Moreover, outgoing IMDb.com links from the app's title and name pages have fallen victim of Apple's app submission guidelines and will be no longer available within the app going forward.

Quora releases iPad app, introduces rich-text editor and revamped look

Quora this morning refreshed its useful iPhone app with some new features while revamping its look and adding the native iPad interface to the experience.

Previously an iPhone and iPod touch only affair, the new Quora 4.0, available free in the App Store, is at last a universal binary so it supports natively any iPhone, iPod touch and iPad compatible with iOS 7.0 or later.

Quora, for those unfamiliar with it, is a popular question-and-answer website where folks submit questions on a wide range of topics and get answers from like-minded users.

No going back: Walking Dead: The Game — Season 2 finale now available

Nearly nine months following its December 2013 debut, The Walking Dead: The Game — Season 2 by Telltale Games has reached its gripping conclusion with the release of the final chapter in the five-episode series.

It's titled “No Going Back” and available right now as a $4.99 In-App Purchase within the Walking Dead game, itself priced at $4.99.

For those unfamiliar with Walking Dead: The Game, it's based on the namesake comic book series by the Eisner Award-winning writer Robert Kirkman. The iOS title follows the story of Clementine, a young girl orphaned by the undead apocalypse.

The penultimate episode titled “Amid the Ruins” became available a month ago, introducing new twists to the story of Clementine (with a cliffhanger ending).

Latest Wunderlist update enhances mobile editing of your to-dos and tasks

Wunderlist, the beautiful cross-platform to-do and task list application by German developer 6Wunderkinder, has received its second update following the release of the major version 3.0 edition which brought out an overhauled appearance and more than sixty new features.

Today's update focuses on mobile editing of your items. Wunderlist 3.0.2, which is free in the App Store and Mac App Store, now finally allows iPhone, iPod touch and iPhone owners to move, complete and delete multiple items on the go.

Xbox One SmartGlass app now lets you record game clips and more

Less than two weeks following an update which has enabled Xbox One owners to install games on their console remotely, using their iOS device, the Windows giant Microsoft today pushed another update adding nearly a dozen cool new features.

For starters, the free iPhone and iPad application now allows you to record game clips remotely, too.

And in a series of social improvements, the app now lets players share and post activity feed items and post status updates to their activity feed, as well as browse through their activity feed directly on their profile page.

Bioshock now available in the App Store for $14.99

Heads up gamers, a major new title has landed on iOS this evening. The official mobile port of 2K Game's Bioshock—thought by some to be one of the best first person shooters of all time—is now available in the App Store, for both the iPhone and iPad, for $15.

For those unfamiliar with the game, it's set in an underwater Utopia in the midst of a civil war. You play as Jack, a cast-away from an airplane crash who finds himself trapped in this mysterious world filled with powerful technology and fascinating characters.

Amazon overhauls Audible app, improves search, adds Discover tab and more

The online retail giant Amazon, which just purchased the gameplay streaming platform Twitch for nearly $1 billion, has given its Audible for iOS app a little love earlier this morning.

Now sitting at version 2.1 and featuring a revamped user interface — along with the minimalistic new app icon — the app does away with the outdated design in favor of a more modern iOS 7-friendly appearance.

Audible is an audiobook service owned by Amazon. In addition to the brighter UI, the refreshed software offers a few new features such as an improved search, an all-new Discover tab, a 30-second forward button in the built-in player and more.

Audible for the iPhone and iPad is available free of charge.
