Rumor: Apple planning to acquire social network Path

Apple is close to announcing an acquisition of the social network Path, according to a report from PandoDaily, in an attempt to bolster its social offerings. According to a lone-source said to be placed within Apple's engineering team: “It’s almost done, if not signed already, but it’s essentially a done deal.”

Apple releases iTunes 11.4 with support for iOS 8 syncing

Apple this afternoon released iTunes 11.4 for Mac OS X users. The update is small in size, but significant in terms of functionality, as it brings about support for syncing music, movies and other iTunes content to iOS devices that have upgraded to iOS 8.

The news follows the seeding of iOS 8 GM to developers earlier today, which will be the software's final release before it goes public later this month. That update was also fairly minor, offering up just a handful of tweaks for icons and other UI elements.

iTunes Festival and Showtime Anytime channels launch on Apple TV

Two nice updates for Apple TV owners today. First, Apple has re-launched the iTunes Festival channel on the $99 media-streming box in time for the 2014 iTunes Festival, which kicks off on September 1 in London.

And second, the firm has also added the Showtime Anytime channel to the device.

Showtime is a premium cable network offering some free content to all users, in addition to live and on-demand shows and events to those who've subscribed to the network through a participating cable provider.

Additional content sources have been added to the Apple TV in select markets, as outlined after the jump.

OS X Yosemite Public Beta 2 and new iTunes 12 build now available

Apple has just released the second version of the OS X Yosemite Public Beta and a new beta build of the thoroughly overhauled iTunes 12 for Yosemite.

The second public Yosemite beta arrives after the first public beta was made available at the end of last month and is basically the same as OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 6 seeded to Apple's registered developers last week.

Both updates are available to download through the Mac App Store for those who've applied for the OS X Beta Program...

Apple honors Robin Williams with dedicated iTunes Store section

Apple has created a dedicated section in its iTunes Store entitled 'Remembering Robin Williams.' The addition follows yesterday's tragic news of the actor's passing, and it features links to his popular movies, TV series and stand-up comedy routines.

In addition to the media, the section also includes a photo of Mr. Williams and a brief paragraph on his career and philanthropical achievements, calling him "one of the most beloved and unforgettable performers in the history of show business."

Apple begins adding Family Sharing support info to select App Store listings

Apple has been spotted adding support info for its upcoming Family Sharing feature to both iOS and Mac App Store listings. The data can be seen in the Information section of select apps (where it lists Seller, Category, etc.), under a new field called 'Family Sharing.'

For those unfamiliar with it, Family Sharing is a new feature built-in to iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite that will allow families to share content like apps, music, movies, and more across all of their iOS devices, as long as their iTunes accounts are all using the same credit card...

Apple releases iTunes 11.3.1 with podcast-related bug fixes

Apple has this afternoon pushed out a new version of its iTunes app, bringing the music management software to version 11.3.1. The update is more of a maintenance  release, and doesn't include any major new features or changes.

It does however, offer up a fix for a persistent problem where subscribed podcasts may have stopped updating with new episodes, as well as an issue where iTunes would become unresponsive while browsing through podcast episodes...
