Google Voice App GV Mobile+ Free For A Few Hours

A quick alert to let you know that GV Mobile+, the Google Voice application by Sean Kovacs is free in the App Store for a few hours. According to Sean's Twitter update, GV Mobile+ will go back to its normal price ($2.99) at around 10pm PST.

GV Mobile+ was released in the App Store last week after Apple loosened up the app approval process. It is the second Google Voice iPhone app to be approved in the App Store this since Apple changed the app approval process. GV Connect was the first one.

You can download GV Mobile+ from here. Hurry up!

UPDATE: The developer of GV Mobile+ is apparently pissed that we (and other sites) shared the news. As a result, the app is not free anymore.

UPDATE 2: The dev says on Twitter the app should be free again for just a few minutes. Hurry!

Google Voice App GV Mobile+ for iPhone Released

Sean Kovacs's Google Voice application for iPhone GV Mobile+ has finally been released in the App Store. After being removed from the App Store for replicating already existing features of the iPhone, Google Voice Mobile made its way to Cydia. Then when Apple loosened the app approval process a few days ago, they told Kovacs he could resubmit his application.

GV Mobile+ is probably the most popular Google Voice application, but it is not the first one to appear in the App Store. Yesterday, GV Connect was officially approved and became the first Google Voice application to return to the Store for download...

First Google Voice Application Reappears in the App Store

We've been talking quite a bit about Google Voice on the blog the last few days because Apple apparently started telling developers it was ok to submit Google Voice applications again in the App Store.

Although he was getting everybody's attention, developer Sean Kovacs is not the only one working on Google Voice applications, and someone actually came up with a Google Voice app before him...

Google Voice for iPhone – Preview of GV Mobile+

Some of you might remember the application called Google Voice Mobile, which was approved in the App Store last year. When the battle between Apple and Google started heating up though, the application was pulled from the App Store because it "replicated features that come with the iPhone", namely the "phone" part. The app quickly went underground and made its way to the iPhone anyway via Cydia.

Since Apple loosened the app approval process last week, they invited Sean Kovacs, the developer of Google Voice Mobile, to resubmit his application to the App Store. Woohoo, great news indeed. MacRumors has had the chance to have a quick glance at the application, rebaptized GV Mobile+ for the occasion. It looks pretty good...

Is Google Voice for iPhone Finally Going to Be Reinstated?

I am still kind of in disbelief about Apple's recent and sudden restriction removal regarding the App Store guidelines. Getting reports like the following from BGR make it very real in my eyes.

Sean Kovacs, the developer of GV Mobile (Google Voice Mobile), has posted a tweet that all but says the once banned application will be likely gracing the presence of the virtual store. It reads:

AT&T Loophole + Google Voice = Free Calls On Your iPhone

You may have heard of the new AT&T add-on called A-List that gives you unlimited calls to and from 5 numbers of your choice. Thanks to a little bit of thinking outside the box, and mostly thanks to Google Voice, you can actually get unlimited calling to any numbers in the US.

For those of you who don't know how Google Voice works, let me explain briefly. Google Voice gives you a free phone number that entitles you to free calls in the US (and very cheap calls overseas). If you try to make a call from the Google Voice app on your iPhone (or the web-based version), Google Voice will call you at your number and connect you to the number you dialed. I'm not sure if that makes sense but basically, when you use Google Voice for calls, you don't get free calls, minutes are taken off your plan, which kinda defeats the whole purpose.

Here is how the loophole works. Simply add your Google Voice number to your A-List. Now every time Google Voice calls you to connect the call with the dialed number, it will be free of charge and you'll be able to call anyone in the US for free (really free).

I'm not sure this is very clear but Google Voice users will surely understand and see the benefits of this little trick. Let's just hope AT&T doesn't figure this one out and puts an end to it.

Do you use Google Voice? If so, you should definitely look into it...
