More updates to the unc0ver v2.1.0 pre-release incorporate new features and fix several bugs

It’s been two weeks since hacker Pwn20wnd launched the initial unc0ver v2.1.0 pre-release for public testing, and we’ve seen a bevy of revisions to the pre-release since then. Just this week, the unc0ver v2.1.0 pre-release received two additional updates to fortify the jailbreak tool even further.

Saurik updates Cydia Substrate in response to ‘freezing’ and ‘respring loop’ reports

Saurik (Jay Freeman) launched an official iOS 11-centric update for Cydia Substrate less than two weeks ago, but it wasn’t long after installing it that some jailbreakers started reporting arbitrary freezes and problems with specific jailbreak tweaks. Flustered jailbreakers took to a support page on GitHub, where Saurik said that he successfully reproduced the bug and was looking into a fix.

If you were one of many affected by these bugs, then you’ll be excited to learn that Saurik pushed two consecutive updates to Cydia Substrate – the first (version 0.9.7010 came late Friday night, while the second (version 0.9.7011) came early Saturday morning. Naturally, the latter encompasses the latest fixes.

Dark Mode-centric jailbreak tweaks have become quite the hot commodity as of late, but many lack support for the different types of mapviews used in the bevy of map and navigation apps available for download in the App Store.

Enter Night Maps, a new jailbreak tweak by iOS developer FoxFortMobile that fills this particular niche. As shown above, Night Maps brings a universal Dark Mode experience to the mapview of almost any map or navigation app you might use on your iPhone or iPad.

HUE2 colorizes your Philips Hue lights based on colors from the Now Playing album artwork

If you’re a fan of the Philips Hue lighting system and also happen to have a jailbroken iPhone, then you might come to appreciate a new jailbreak tweak dubbed HUE2 by iOS developer Antique.

HUE2 is fundamentally a new way to integrate your music-listening experience on iOS with your Philips Hue lighting system. Right out of the box, the tweak colorizes your Philips Hue lights to match the dominant color of the album artwork of any music you might be playing, as depicted above.

Saurik acknowledges Cydia Substrate freezing bug in latest update, says fix is imminent

Less than two weeks ago, Saurik (Jay Freeman) released an official iOS 11-centric update for Cydia Substrate, but it wasn’t long after the release that users who installed the package began reporting unexpected freezing issues with their jailbroken handsets.

A support thread was opened on GitHub nine days ago brought some much-needed attention to the issue, prompting high-profile members of the community like Pwn20wnd, sbingner, and Saurik to start looking into it.

Electra jailbreak tool updated to resolve an issue on iOS 11.0 – 11.1.2

It was only yesterday that the Electra Team pushed a significant update to the Electra jailbreak with initial support for the Sileo package installer and a bevy of bug fixes and performance improvements, but the team is still fine-tuning the iOS 11-centric jailbreak tool as we speak.

Citing a Tweet shared by the Electra Team Wednesday evening, one out of the two available Electra jailbreak tools was updated once again, this time to version 1.1.0-2, with a fix for a jailbreaking issue on iOS 11.0-11.1.2:

Electra jailbreak updated to version 1.1.0 with bug fixes, stability enhancements, and Sileo support

Just this week, the Electra Team updated its jailbreak for the first time since this Summer, bringing the tool(s) up to version 1.1.0.

Unlike the all-in-one unc0ver jailbreak by Pwn20wnd, the Electra jailbreak is fragmented into two separate tools; one of those supports iOS 11.0-11.1.2 and the other supports iOS 11.2-11.4 beta 3. Regardless, both tools received notable updates.

First public beta of the Sileo package manager released for the Electra jailbreak

On Christmas day, the Electra Team released its public beta of Sileo, a package manager that will attempt to compete with Cydia for market share on the jailbroken iOS 11 platform.

Citing the official Sileo Twitter page, the Sileo beta preview is being hosted on the default Electra repository in Cydia on devices jailbroken with Electra. When Sileo comes out of beta, it will be distributed on an entirely different repository.

Jailbreak tweaks of the week: Asteroid, LSPullToDismiss, Nightshade, and more

Jailbreak Tweaks to check out

Despite Saurik’s decision to shut down the Cydia Store, the jailbreak community is still running strong. New jailbreak tweaks are continuously being published in Cydia and are readily available for you to download.

This roundup will encompass all the jailbreak tweaks we’ve shown you this week, from Monday, December 17th to Sunday, December 23rd. As usual, we’ll kick things off by discussing our favorites and then outline the rest afterward.

Nightshade provides an all-in-one Dark Mode experience for your iPhone or iPad

Dark Mode jailbreak tweaks have become quite the hot commodity among iPhone and iPad users, especially considering how Apple officially supports the feature on macOS. But wouldn’t it be nice to have a reliable all-in-one solution for all your apps and user interfaces rather than installing several jailbreak tweaks to achieve the same result?

If you answered ‘yes’ to that question, then you’re in luck; a new jailbreak tweak called Nightshade by iOS developer Dylan Duff promises ‘an all-in-one iOS Dark Mode’ that promises to ‘theme almost every aspect of the UI.’
