You can now install Sileo on your non-jailbroken iPhone or iPad as a simple repository browser

Those familiar with jailbreaking have undoubtedly heard about Sileo, a third-party package manager endorsed by the Electra Team that aims to compete with Cydia for market share; but what if we told you that you didn’t need to have a jailbroken handset to give Sileo a try?

Indeed, in an unforeseen turn of events, the Sileo Team released a public .ipa file on Saturday that can be side-loaded onto non-jailbroken handsets via Cydia Impactor or installed directly with online services such as Ignition.

Sileo beta preview receives minor update with support for depiction tint colors, cache fixes

The Sileo Team announced a minor incremental update to the Sileo public beta on Sunday with repository-related enhancements and fixes, formally bringing the alternative iOS 11-centric package manager up to version 0.5b1.

The Sileo Team announced the update via Twitter Sunday morning, adding that it would clear the cache correctly to prevent unwanted disk space usage and add support for tint colors on jailbreak package depictions:

A rootfs remount is being released for iOS 12, raising hope for a normal iOS 12 jailbreak with Cydia

Avid jailbreakers who are on iOS 12.0-12.1.2 currently have one of two options: 1) use rootlessJB 3.0, a developer-centric, SSH-based rootless jailbreak without Cydia; or 2) wait for a full-featured jailbreak solution with Cydia (like Electra or unc0ver) to surface. Fortunately, those who are stuck in the latter boat could be one step closer to jailbreaking as of this weekend.

Hackers @MiscMisty and @Lakr223 took to Twitter early Saturday morning to display a proof of concept of a working iOS 12.x-oriented rootfs remount. But perhaps more importantly, they noted how they would be releasing it very shortly.

Electra 1.3.2 released, bundles both Cydia and Sileo as default package managers

On Thursday, the Electra Team pushed another update for the iOS 11-centric Electra jailbreak tool. The latest update, dubbed version 1.3.2, bundles both the Cydia and Sileo package managers right out of the box, a move toward gradually weaning Electra users away from Cydia as Sileo transitions into its final beta preview stages.

The Electra Team shared the news via Twitter just this afternoon, elucidating the Cydia/Sileo situation in further detail:

Electra 1.3.1 released to improve exploit success rate for A7-A8(X) devices on iOS 11.2+

Another update released Tuesday by the Electra Team should make pwning iOS 11 easier with the Electra jailbreak tool. Electra version 1.3.1 introduces some much-needed success rate improvements for A7 to A8(X) devices (4K), expectantly reducing the number of times that you’d need to tap “Jailbreak” in the app to complete the process.

The Electra Team first announced the update early this morning via Twitter, linking to the official download page:

Electra Team says it won’t be long before Sileo becomes the default package manager for Electra

At the time of this writing, Sileo is an alternative and optional package manager that can be installed alongside Cydia on devices that have been jailbroken with Electra; but that will unquestionably change in the future.

As the Sileo beta preview progresses, the Electra Team will implement the framework to replace Cydia as the default package manager on the Electra platform, a move that could transpire as soon as Sileo comes out of its beta preview stages:

Electra 1.3.0 released with ‘next-gen jailbreakd2’ to prevent device freezes and improve performance

The Electra Team has released another update for the iOS 11-centric Electra jailbreak tool on Saturday bringing the version number up to 1.3.0. This update incorporates a respectable list of bug fixes and performance improvements, among other things.

The update was announced via Twitter by the Electra Team Saturday evening, and as it would seem, it replaces jailbreakd with a re-written alternative dubbed jailbreakd2 and resolves a bevy of freezing issues that had been reported by the tool’s user base:

Electra version 1.2.7 released to fix a kernel panic issue on some devices

It was only a couple of hours ago that the Electra Team pushed two back-to-back updates for the Electra jailbreak tool, but those versions are already obsolete. The team just pushed another update to their iOS 11-centric jailbreak tool, bringing the version number up to 1.2.7.

The Electra Team announced the update earlier this evening via Twitter, elucidating how it was released to resolve a bug with tihmstar’s v1ntex exploit that would sometimes cause a kernel panic on certain devices:

Electra updated to version 1.2.6 to resolve various problems on A7 & A8 devices

The Electra Team pushed two subsequent updates to the Electra jailbreak tool Thursday evening with bug fixes and improvements, bringing the version number of iOS 11-centric tool to 1.2.6. The updates came just hours after Electra picked up support for tihmstar’s new v1ntex exploit.

The Electra Team announced the new updates via Twitter, adding that they would resolve problems users were experiencing on A7 and A8 devices concerning post-exploitation failures on iOS 11.2-11.4.1 and app crashing issues on iOS 11.4.x:

Sileo beta preview receives a small update with support for the latest dpkg

Soon after the Electra Team updated its jailbreak with support for tihmstar’s new v1ntex exploit, the Sileo Team came forward with an update for the beta preview of the Sileo package manager – an alternative to Cydia.

A Tweet shared Thursday by the Sileo Team denotes how the newest update adds support for the latest dpkg (version 1.19.4) for package installation (themes, tweaks, etc.):
