It’s Your iPhone, Do You Use Protection?

No, we're not about to have an awkward talk about the birds and the bees. In noticing the many scuffs and scratches on the back of my beloved iPhone, I remember thinking I probably should have used protection.

Don't get me wrong, I tried to be a good iPhone owner. I use screen protectors regularly, and have tried to keep it in a case, several times in fact. The conclusions I have come to are as such: the decent looking silicon cases I tried didn't add too much bulk to the phone, but would stretch out and attract tons of lint and dust, so would be useless after just weeks of usage. The thicker plastic cases I tried that were 2 pieces that snapped together, were constantly coming undone, so they were more of a headache than anything.

I've dropped my iPhone a few times, without a case on it, and you can definitely tell it's been through a lot.  In my opinion Apple should go to rubber or matte backs, but at least they're not that aluminum back of the earlier models.

It'll be interesting to see what Apple has in store for the next model of the iPhone, especially after seeing the technology they have in the iPad. Until then though I need to keep my current iPhone 3G safe from any horrible mishaps. What do you guys think, do you use protection for your iPod Touch or iPhone, and if so, and good recommendations for a lightweight, durable case that stays put?

19 Most Original iPhone Cases Ever

I'm not that much of an iPhone case guy because I think it is a device that is too beautiful to be hidden in a case or in a sleeve. However, I have to admit I have a thing for some of these. This article covers 19 extremely creative and original iPhone cases.

Speck Tough Skin Rugged Rubber Case Review

Like all iPhone owners, I want to protect my investment. But like most iPhone owners, I’m going to go thru a few cases before I land the right one. In this journey of trial and error I have purchased a few iPhone cases and returned a few as well. In doing so I have kept a few for different purposes or environments. I have one for the business casual affairs, while I have another for the in-pocket tote. But I have an outdoorsy one that I like for its extra protection (or sense of protection) that it provides while out in the rough. I go on campouts and hikes a few times a year and I love to take my iPhone with me (mainly for its GPS mapping ability).

There is no way that I’m going to trust just any case out in the woods, that is why I purchased and kept the Tough Skin Rugged Rubber Case by Speck. This bad boy not only protects your iPhone, but gives it a rugged outdoor look. I am glad that it doesn’t come in camouflage though because if it was dropped on the ground it would easily blend in, making it difficult to find through the natures grassy floor.

Wooden iPhone 3G

Gizmodo posted today a really cool picture of an iPhone 3G wooden case. Clearly not your typical iPhone accessory but I find this wooden case very interesting. There is no info about pricing and where you can probably find out more from iCustom, assuming you speak Russian... who doesn't?

iPhone Bacon Case. Yes, I Said Bacon Case

I am always amazed at how creative people can be. I mean, there are some people out there saying "I'm gonna create the first iPhone bacon case", and they actually do it. That's what German website Dawanda came up with and the good news is it can be yours for the price of 25 Euros.

Doesn't it look real? More pictures after the jump.

Solar Powered Case for iPhone 3G

I'm sure you will not deny that the new iPhone 3G is a batteries sucker. If like me, you spend quite some time every day surfing the web, emailing and calling from your phone, you probably end up with a dead batteries by mid-day.

To combat this power problem, Mobile Fun has just released a range of Solar Powered cases for the new iPhone 3G. As well as protecting your iPhone 3G from everyday knocks and scrapes these energy saving cases can charge your iPhone.

Built with 1500 mAh battery this can provide one full charge for your iPhone and will recharge itself through the solar panel mounted to the front of the case, or via Mini USB if you’re in a badly lit area. These solar chargers come in both black and white in genuine leather casing.

The solar case can provide enough charge for functional use in less than 3 hours, but it will take a full 10 hours to fill the battery. Maybe the thing to do is leave the case on the dashboard or window sill all day, then charge your phone up at night.

The case is slated for release in August in both black and white versions for around $54.

Chocolate Case for iPhone

Oh, excuse me one sec, my chocolate bar is ringing! Haha, quite funny but this iPhone case might have passed its sell-by date...

The Homade ChocoCase is a silicone cover with a screen protector. Although it's pretty funny looking and will certainly get people's attention, it makes the iPhone look even bulkier than it already is.

Besides, this case was designed for the "old" iPhone and probably won’t fit correctly on the upcoming 3G version, which is going to be more rounded and a tiny bit thinner.

It can be your for about $30 from GizFever.
