RedSn0w 0.9.6 Beta 1 Also Works on iOS 4.2 Beta

This morning we reported that the Dev Team had released RedSn0w 0.9.6 beta 1 and that this tool could be used to jailbreak an iPhone 3G running iOS 4.1.

MuscleNerd confirmed earlier today that this version of RedSn0w can also be used to jailbreak iOS 4.2 beta on an iPhone 3G, but this doesn't come without risks as they are many bugs...

Apple Releases iOS 4.2 Beta

Apple just released iOS 4.2 Beta to developers. As 9 to 5 Mac noted, it's not only available for iPhones as you can also download iOS 4.2 Beta for iPad, which will bring over-the-air printing.

As usual when a new firmware comes out, it is recommended that jailbreakers and unlockers stay away from it if they don't want to lose the ability to jailbreak/unlock in the future...

Apple Releases iOS 4.1 Beta 3

It's here. iOS 4.1 Beta 3 was just released to developers. I'm wondering if it fixes the PDF bug that JailbreakMe uses to jailbreak the iPhone...

As usual, you have no business downloading and installing iOS 4.1 Beta 3 if you're not a developer. Jailbreakers and unlockers should stay away if they want to keep their jailbreak/unlock ability in the future.

iOS 4.1 Beta 2 Can Jailbroken With RedSn0w

iOS 4.1 Beta 2 was released yesterday and according to MuscleNerd, you can already jailbreak it using RedSn0w 0.9.5b5-5. If you're not a developer, you shouldn't mess around iOS 4.1 Beta 2 but I'm sure some of you won't resist the temptation.

If you've updated to 4.1 beta2 on iPhone 3G or iPod 2G (non-MC), you can use RedSn0w 0.9.5b5-5 to jailbreak. Just point RedSn0w at the official 4.0 IPSW, even though you are on 4.1 Beta 2.

This will not hacktivate your iPhone so make sure you are on an official carrier. If you rely on an unlock, do not do this. Do not get anywhere near iOS 4.1 Beta for that matter.

MuscleNerd notes that you may experience network problems after jailbreaking iOS 4.1 Beta 2. This will be a problem until the Dev Team updates RedSn0w.

Again, proceed at your own risks...

Apple Pushes iOS 4.1 Beta 2. Download at Your Own Risks

Apple just released iOS 4.1 Beta 2 to developers, and unless you are a dev, you have absolutely no business downloading and installing it on your iPhone.

If you do, make sure you don't care about future jailbreaks and unlocks because you might lose your ability to do it.

There doesn't seem to be much in this beta release except for the proximity sensor fix, which hopefully will prevent those affected from randomly hanging up on people.

How to Jailbreak iOS 4.1 Beta

The iOS SDK 4.1 beta was just seeded to developers a few hours ago and believe it or not, you can already jailbreak it. The Dev Team didn't even have to do any work on the now famous RedSn0w as the 0.9.5b5-5 version can jailbreak iOS 4.1 beta.

Instructions to jailbreak your iPhone iOS 4 with RedSn0w remain the same. However, remember this is still a beta version. To date, this version of RedSn0w is only compatible with the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G (non MC models).

Also remember that iOS 4.1 beta is called "beta" for a reason. It is released for developers and the general public should stay away from it.

iOS 4.1 Seeded to Developers

Apple just pushed the iOS SDK 4.1 beta to developers. This move is widely expected to NOT fix the antenna issue but rather hide it behind cosmetic changes. This beta version (for developers only) will show bigger bars and will fix the formula that calculates how many bars are displayed, which Apple said to be "totally wrong".

Unless you're a developer, you really have no business playing with the iOS SDK 4.1. beta. Also keep in mind that installing this beta version or the future official iOS 4.1 may compromise your chances of jailbreaking or unlocking your iPhone.

iPhone OS 3.1 Beta Is Out. Jailbreakers, Stay Away!

Apple released the 3.1 beta firmware and SDK to developers, which seems to include a few new features such as:

Non-destructive video editing Voice Control over Bluetooth iPhone vibrates when moving icons New APIs to enable third party apps to access videos and edit them "Fraud Protection" toggle Faster boot time

The biggest change is the update of the baseband to 5.08.01.

If you don't care about jailbreaking or unlocking your iPhone, then this doesn't matter to you. However, if you want to keep you device jailbroken/unlocked, you should not update to 3.1 beta, or even the official 3.1 firmware when it's released to the general public.

Like the Dev Team warned us, updating to 3.1 will prevent you from running any jailbreak method, which would make it impossible to unlock.

Ultrasn0w users must stay away from any firmware updates past 3.0 (including today’s 3.1 beta) until we release the tools that let you update the firmware without updating the baseband.  For most phones out there, baseband updates are irreversible and you’ll lose ultrasn0w.

This warning does not apply to the iPhone 2G, which uses BootNeuter for the unlock, not ultrasn0w.

My advice is to wait and see. The Dev Team is most likely already picking the 3.1 beta apart. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
