Apple brings your photos to life with Live Photos

During the iPhone 6s section of today's Apple event, Apple SVP Phil Schiller announced an incredible new feature called Live Photos. As the name suggests, Live Photos will essentially bring your photos to life by capturing small snippets (1.5 seconds) of video right before and after you take a photo.

You'll be able to view the Live Photos on your iPhone 6s by activating 3D Touch, and Apple says playback will be available on Photos in El Capitan on the Mac, iPhone, iPad, and even Apple Watch. And since they're not technically videos, it claims they don't take up much more space than photographs.

3D Touch: a brand new way to interact with your iPhone

Apple this morning unveiled its next-generation smartphone, the iPhone 6s. While it looks virtually the same as last year's model on the outside, the inside contains tons of brand new technology—including an incredible feature called 3D Touch.

Built on the Force Touch technology first introduced in the Apple Watch, 3D Touch allows the iPhone to detect the force of a touch, opening the doors for new gestures, menus and shortcuts. Here are some of the ways you'll be using the new feature.

Apple unveils new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus with 3D Touch, 12MP camera with 4K video capture & more

Just like the rumor-mill has predicted, Apple at its media event in San Francisco this morning announced a pair of new iPhones: the 4.7-inch iPhone 6s and 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus.

“What we have to show you today is really awesome,” said Tim Cook.

Although the design hasn't changed over the present-generation iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, as is the norm for S-upgrades, the new devices pack in some major hardware improvements.

Apps and games make their way to Apple TV

Apple on Wednesday announced a new version of the Apple TV, and it is awesome. It has a redesigned remote control, a refreshed interface, and support for voice commands via Siri. But what really pushes the device over the top is its support for native apps and games.

As expected, the next-generation set-top box features an App Store, and Apple invited some developers up on stage today to give us an idea of its potential. The game you see above is a Wii Sports-like motion game, called Beats Sports, from Rock Band developer Harmonix.

This is Apple’s updated iPad lineup

The slide you see above is Apple's updated iPad lineup, which includes the just-announced iPad Pro and the new iPad mini 4. On stage, Phil Schiller mentioned that apple was updating its mini tablet line, but he didn't offer up many details. It sounds, though, like it's going to have the internals of the iPad Air 2.

Apple's iPad line now starts at $279, with the mini 2, and ranges all the way up to $1079, for the iPad Pro 128GB Wi-Fi + cellular model.

Here is the new Apple TV…

“TV plays a huge role in our lives and occupies an important place in our homes where we gather,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook at today's media event in San Francisco as he unveiled a fourth-generation Apple TV set-top box. “We believe the future of television is apps,” Cook said.

Over sixty percent of pay TV content is consumed through Apple devices, in apps, he added. The fourth-generation Apple TV, as you might have suspected, has a powerful hardware and runs a modern operating system which delivers a brand new user experience. And of course, it has an App Store of its own and Apple readily provides an official software development kit for its developers to create apps for it.

Welcome to the future of television.
