Apple said to open first Brazil store in early-2014

Although Apple's manufacturing partner Foxconn assembles some of Apple's products in Brazil where it operates a few manufacturing facilities, the iPhone maker lacks its own retail presence in the 200 million people market and instead relies on a network of authorized retailers and carriers to push its products.

This is set to change in just a few short months. If a new report is to be trusted, Apple is getting ready to open its first retail store in the country in February or March of next year...

Online Apple Store now offering $20 OS X Lion and Mountain Lion redemption codes

Following the free OS X Mavericks release, Apple has removed the $19.99 Mountain Lion purchase from the Mac App Store. This has brought headache to owners of older Macs who were looking to upgrade their operating system to OS X Lion or Mountain Lion.

Apple typically keeps only the most current version of OS X on the Mac App Store. As a result, folks who want to purchase a copy of Lion, for example, are required to give Apple a phone call to get either a DVD or a content code via email which lets them download the installer through the Mac App Store.

The company has now made the process easier by selling the redemption codes through its online store...

Apple slapped with class-action lawsuit on uncompensated employee security checks

It seems Apple Stores are becoming the retail version of airport security lines for employees. At least that's the allegation of a San Francisco Apple Store worker who has filed a class action lawsuit against the iPhone maker. The lawsuit claims employees are not being compensated for security checks lasting as long as 30 minutes per day.

Each day, employees must wait in line for these security checks before leaving for meal breaks and when they end their shifts after they've clocked out of work, according to the lawsuit which is also filed on behalf of all nonexempt hourly workers. The lawsuit by Apple employee Taylor Kalin asks for lost wages for all employees, as well as penalties for violating labor laws...

Steve Jobs had hand in newly-patented glass entryway for Shanghai store

Typically, Apple patents technology sold within its retail locations. However, today the company received a patent for the design and construction of the glass cylindrical entrance to its Apple Store in Shanghai. Unlike most entrances, the one in Shanghai shapes huge slabs of glass, connected by a complex arrangement of fittings to form a building unto itself. To top it all off, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs is among the patent inventors...

Exactly a week ago, Apple extended its Personal Pickup service to the new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, allowing customers to order their handset online for same-day delivery to one of Apple's retail outlets in the United States. Then the following day it pulled the in-store pickup for both new iPhones without an explanation, with anonymous sources telling one publication the company will reinstate the option today. Sure enough, both new handsets are now available with in-store pickup option...

Apple to resume in-store iPhone 5s pickups next week

Apple extended its Personal Pickup service to the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c on Monday, enabling customers to check availability at their local Apple retailers and schedule in-store pickups for both of the handsets.

The service was particularly handy for 5s shoppers, given that initial supplies were very limited, and online shipping times quickly slipped to October. But without explanation, Apple pulled the option the following day...

Apple pulls Personal Pickup for new iPhones

Yesterday, iDB told you that Apple extended its Personal Pickup service to include the new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c and explained that shoppers can avoid crowds by ordering their handset online with same day in-store delivery. It would now appear that the company may have prematurely enhanced the service.

On Tuesday, the in-store pickup option disappeared from the online Apple Store for both new iPhone models. We've received more than a dozen tips and have since confirmed that Apple in fact did inexplicably pull Personal Pickup for both new handsets...

Apple extends in-store Personal Pickup to new iPhone 5s/5c

Apple just said it sold nine million new iPhone 5s/5c units during the opening weekend and warned that many online orders will ship "in the coming weeks" as demand for the flagship iPhone 5s “has exceeded the initial supply”.

Supply constraints quickly became apparent as shipping estimates on the U.S. online Apple Store for all configurations in the US slipped from 7–10 days to October.

In an effort to help would-be shoppers save time, the company's online store now offers the popular in-store pickup option for the newly launched iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c handsets. Additionally, customers can check Personal Pickup iPhone availability on a per-store basis...

Apple Stores start being prepped with colorful iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c displays

We're just a few hours away from the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c launch here in the US, so it is not surprising to see Apple starting prepping its stores with colorful and somewhat original displays.

These displays are pretty original, if you ask me. From what I can tell, they're made of hundreds of little balls, brought together in a rectangular shape, and made of different colors...
