WSJ: Pandora could unveil on-demand tiers next month to better compete with Apple Music

Trying to stave off threat from Apple's music subscription service and at the same time overcome a “listenership plateau”, Pandora is set to launch a pair of paid subscription tiers next month, The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday citing people familiar with the matter.

Provided it's able to negotiate necessary deals with record labels, Pandora could unveil two new paid subscription tiers in the United States and elsewhere.

One of them would reportedly provide unlimited on-demand access to tens of millions of songs on the Internet radio streaming service in exchange for $9.99 per month.

Frank Ocean releases ‘Endless’ visual album on Apple Music

Frank Ocean has released a new visual album entitled "Endless" exclusively on Apple Music. The 45-minute video features new songs from the popular R&B singer, and takes place in the same warehouse shown in the web feed on his website.

Endless comes roughly two weeks after it was reported that Mr. Ocean was preparing to release "Boys Don't Cry," his first new album since 2012. This of course never materialized, but the singer's rep says watch out for more content soon.

Apple recruiting lyric curators for Apple Music

Apple is hiring a Lyrics Curation Manager to lead a team of 'Lyrics Curators,' likely to work on the new song lyrics feature in iOS 10's Music app. The job listing, first spotted by MusicBusinessWorldwide, was posted to Apple's website within the last week.

The position calls for someone with excellent writing skills, music knowledge, and attention to detail, as well as a passion for technology and experience writing lyrics. They must also have experience with managing complex teams and using complicated tools.

Launch in Samsung's home turf, home to 50 million people, comes hot on the heels of the service's debut in Israel yesterday.

Spotify launches Release Radar, a personalized playlist of newest releases updated weekly

In an effort to differentiate and further distance itself from Apple Music, Swedish music startup Spotify on Friday announced Release Radar, a new music discovery feature that provides personalized playlists of the newest releases, akin to Apple's “For You” section. The playlist is updated weekly, every Friday.

The convenient playlist brings all of your new favorite music, “without any of the effort that goes into searching for the latest gems.”

Apple Music for Android exits beta, gains equalizer settings and performance improvements

Apple Music for Android has dropped the beta flag, reveals the app's official description on Google's Play store. Today, Apple Music for Android was updated to version 1.0 as the app is no longer in beta, signaling Apple's confidence that it enables experiences its iOS counterpart has provided since launch. The app made its surprising debut in November of 2015 as Apple's first-ever Android software because the company wanted to make it easy for music lovers to allow people to enjoy music “no matter where you were and what products you were using”.

Apple Music launches in Israel, gains free Bloomberg Radio news channel in 100 countries

The Apple Music service has expanded to Israel this morning, allowing users in the eight million people country to sign up for the music-subscription service in exchange for 19.90 ILS per month (about $5.2) for individual accounts. A family of six can subscribe to Apple Music for 29.90 ILS, or about $7.81.

A free three-month trial is available as well.

The news comes 24 hours after the news gathering organization Bloomberg announced that its radio service is now available on Apple Music in over a hundred countries.
