The iDB team could not possibly be more excited for the upcoming iPhone 8. A completely redesigned form factor has been three years in the making. In my opinion, the crown jewel will be the new full screen OLED display. With OLED, the colors will be richer and the blacks, a true black. A new screen size, function area, and ear piece cut out will make wallpapers a new challenge.

Our Wallpapers of the Week collection has been able to greatly benefit from an unchanging resolution, for the past three years. But now, we are faced with a turning point in the device and, therefore, will need to dedicate efforts to provide wallpapers at the new resolution. This is a call to arms! I need your help to find or create amazing, photo quality images for the newest flagship device.

Solar eclipse wallpapers

In less than 24 hours, the United States, from coast to coast, will experience a total solar eclipse. The two axis cities are Salem, Oregon to Charleston, SC. Speaking of Charleston, check out these amazing dual screen wallpapers from last week's Wallpapers of the Week post.

Along the axis, about 70 miles on each side, viewers will be able to see totality, a complete covering of the Sun by the Moon and only the corona will be viewable around the moon's edges.

The last total U.S. solar eclipse was in 1979 and the next will be 2023; however, a full and total solar eclipse that stretches the entire U.S. is unprecedented. Check out our complete solar eclipse wallpaper collection, which you don't need special glasses to see.

Every Mac wallpaper since OS X Cheetah 10.0

Journalist Stephen Hackett and French designer @forgottentowel have created an awesome compilation of every new wallpaper that appeared in macOS editions since OS X Cheetah 10.0, the first major version of Apple's desktop operating system released sixteen years ago in 2001.

Older ones back from the day when computers didn't have Retina screens were upscaled for the glorious 5K resolution. You can view and download them individually from the 512 Pixels website, as well as learn a little bit of history behind each wallpaper.

The first two releases of Mac OS X shared the same wallpaper: the sweeping blue arcs and curves, which helped set the tone of the new Aqua interface.

It wasn't until OS X Leopard 10.5 that Apple changed the theme of the default OS X wallpaper from the blue-themed trails streaking across the screen to various space nebulas.

“It ushered in the 'space era' of OS X wallpapers, which was used heavily in the new Time Machine interface as well,” Hackett wrote. The space theme for Mac wallpapers had continued for a few years until OS X Mavericks 10.9, which marked the beginning of Apple’s naming scheme for Mac releases based on California locations.

With OS X Yosemite 10.10 and its flattened user interface, Apple began shipping new default wallpapers based on images of mountains. Subsequent OS X releases, including the latest macOS High Sierra, each shipped with their own mountain-themed wallpapers.

Live Photo Wallpapers for iPhone with Wally Papes

One of my favorite features of iOS is the ability to take Live Photos. It is shocking how drastically different a memory expresses itself over 3 seconds, as opposed to a single instance in time. I frequently find myself going back through a photo album, to play through each Live Photo.

Launching with the feature, came the ability to set Live Photos as wallpapers, both on the Lock and Home screens. However, there is really no great way to share Live Photos as posts on the internet.
