New iPhone Rumors – Give Me A Break

There have been more than enough rumors about what the new iPhone will have. I say, give me a break. Although we don't have an inside source telling us, think about it. Now, see our reasoning below:

Lit Up Apple Logo On The Back

Seriously? First of all, this would look horrible. It would be bumping out, making it look bad. On top of that it would kill battery life. And think about it, a ton of users use a case for their iPhone. A lit-up Apple logo would be useless for them. Don't see my point? OK, here's a mock-up by us:

That is how odd it would look. Plus, an apple that small would not make a difference. But it would kill you battery life.

Discontinuation of the metal band surrounding the edge of the device

Again, I think this is very unlikely. So far, the two latest models have had this. Though I'm not saying it is completely fake, it is unlikely. Maybe Apple will bring the plastic black / white front to the edge as well.

Rubber-tread backing

Unlikely! Apple has kept on going with the metal back for the iTouches and has only changed the iPhone to plastic back. Considering most other phones are plastic, this is also unlikely. So far, the only proof is this:

It's an image MacRumors posted. I dunno... but I have seen fakes before. However, from Apple you never know.

Sleeker design

Possible...

Now a small listing of a few others. Faster speed, internet, and processor are all likely. It is needed and Apple will most likely deliver. Longer battery is also likely. FM transmitter: unlikely! Think about that. Higher resolution camera is likely. Since most smartphones also have this.  Built-in compass also sounds likely.

"Revolutionary combination of the camera, GPS, compass, and Google maps to identify photo and inform about photo locations." Doubt it!! I think people have things mixed up. I'm sure that they will let the camera take a pic and save the location and information about the compass. But I doubt the iPhone itself will inform you about the location. However, I think that with the data from the picture, when passed to the computer using Google Maps / Earth it will inform about the location.

Turn by turn directions is also likely as it is something heavily asked for. Also, a GPS company (forgot the name, think it was TomTom) posted somewhere they were looking for someone with iPhone coding experience.

This is just me reasoning here. I know some people will not agree, but that some might. But believe me, the rumors will keep on coming as WWDC gets closer. Don't believe everything you read!!

Confirmed 3.0 Rumors: Copy/Paste, No Video, Pre Killer!

On Tuesday Apple will hold an event where it will reveal iPhone firmware 3.0. Needless to say that rumors have been flying by like shooting stars but some rumors have been confirmed by Kevin Rose, namely the long awaited copy/paste! Yes, you read me right. Copy/paste will be on the next firmware update.

Recorded live during the shooting of a DiggNation episode (see video below), Rose also mentioned that the iPhone will not have video recording capability at this time. The most interesting revelation to me is that apparently, iPhone 3.0 firmware will do everything the Palm Pre will do, but even better. What does that mean? Will we finally be able to run multiple apps in the background (without having to use the jailbreak app called Backgrounder)? Will we have push email? A mystery that will be revealed this coming Tuesday.

Now some of you who don't know Kevin Rose may question him. Well, don't! Rose (founder of Digg, if you didn't know) has some very good friends at Apple and has always been right when he revealed new iPhone features in the past. Always.

What else would you like to see on the iPhone firmware 3.0?

App Store to Get $19.99 Premium Games Section

Don't you love rumors? Well, here is a new one for you, and I think it is more than a simple rumor. Apple is supposedly considering creating a $19.99 section in the App Store for "premium games". According to PocketGamer, "it's thought only a relatively small number of publishers would be partners in the new section, although in fairness, relatively few are currently geared up to create games with $19.99 production values."

If you think about it, it totally makes sense that Apple would want to create such a section in the App Store. Apple is not hiding its ambitions of having the iPhone and iPod Touch take over what your Nintendo DS or Sony PSP are doing, namely, be a kick ass portable gaming console.

Mike at TUAW says that "it's an interesting idea, and actually, though obviously it would cost consumers more, the bottom line in the App Store has always been worth, not price -- there are currently premium games being sold on services like Xbox Live and the Wii's Virtual Console for $20, and gamers are willing to pay, as long as they get the bang for the buck that they expect."

I'm not a gamer at all so, as far as I'm concerned, I couldn't care less, but I think it's very interesting to see where Apple is heading to. You gotta love Apple business model!

iPhone Nano Rumor: My Take On It

If you've read the Apple-related news within the last few days, you must have heard the latest rumor about an iPhone Nano coming out in June. The rumor also says that the iPhone Nano will be available in China first, and then will come to the US.

I predict that the iPhone Nano will be announced this year at Apple's WorldWide Developers Conference in June. I also predict that the iPhone Nano will be available in the US the month following the announcement (July).

The more I think about it, the less it makes sense that Apple would launch a product in a foreign country first, especially in China.

As usual, I would love to read your thoughts on this so please feel free to leave a comment!

Steve Is Doing Good… And Peace In The World Is For Tomorrow…

Contrarily to what I reported last week about Steve Jobs health, our good old Steve-o seems to be doing ok, according to a note he sent to the WSJ. Well people, don't get duped by this piece of PR. It is clear that Steve Jobs is sick and Apple is lying to all of us, most likely to protect the value of its stock.

One thing though. Steve will not be able to lie forever, and when he does pass away, I am pretty sure the stock will hurt even more than it would if he told us right now that he is indeed sick. Why doesn't he slowly but surely prepare the stockholders to see him step down from its CEO position like Bill Gates did at MicroSoft. It took Gates a few years to step down but it was done so smoothly that MS stock didn't suffer at all.

Anyways, here is a copy of the note Steve wrote to the WSJ:

Dear Apple Community,

For the first time in a decade, I’m getting to spend the holiday season with my family, rather than intensely preparing for a Macworld keynote.

Unfortunately, my decision to have Phil deliver the Macworld keynote set off another flurry of rumors about my health, with some even publishing stories of me on my deathbed.

I’ve decided to share something very personal with the Apple community so that we can all relax and enjoy the show tomorrow.

As many of you know, I have been losing weight throughout 2008. The reason has been a mystery to me and my doctors. A few weeks ago, I decided that getting to the root cause of this and reversing it needed to become my #1 priority.

Fortunately, after further testing, my doctors think they have found the cause — a hormone imbalance that has been “robbing” me of the proteins my body needs to be healthy. Sophisticated blood tests have confirmed this diagnosis.

The remedy for this nutritional problem is relatively simple and straightforward, and I’ve already begun treatment. But, just like I didn’t lose this much weight and body mass in a week or a month, my doctors expect it will take me until late this Spring to regain it. I will continue as Apple’s CEO during my recovery.

I have given more than my all to Apple for the past 11 years now. I will be the first one to step up and tell our Board of Directors if I can no longer continue to fulfill my duties as Apple’s CEO. I hope the Apple community will support me in my recovery and know that I will always put what is best for Apple first.

So now I’ve said more than I wanted to say, and all that I am going to say, about this.

Steve

I suggest you check out CrunchGear's post about it because it's full of good insight.

What do you think of all this?

Red iPhone To Be Announced At MacWorld? Picture!!!

After the pink iPhone that hit eBay earlier this week, now is time for the Red iPhone. We had heard about it before and it seems the rumor is resurfacing, especially since we're just days away of MacWorld.

This image was found on a French blog and it seems really fake to me but you never know... It is much more probable that Apple will launch a Red iPhone, rather than a pink one... What do you think?

UPDATE: After doing a little research, I found out it's totally fake and you can buy iPhone 3G back covers pretty much everywhere online. However, as you can see here, you will need some skills to install it!

Pink iPhone 3G is “Absolutely Fabulous”

A mysterious Pink iPhone 3G showed up on eBay today and while a Red iPhone had been rumored for a while, I honestly didn't think about a pink model, especially one for sale on eBay...

If you look at the back of the iPhone, it clearly looks legit, and not some type of ColorWare job. Like Engadget suggests, it could be some OEM in Asia whipping up custom colors. Or maybe Apple ready to announce it at MacWorld next week? I don't think so.

What's your take on it?

Apple Tablet Coming In 2009

According to TechCrunch sources, Apple is expected to release a large screen iPod Touch device in the Fall of 2009. This larger iPod Touch will most likely have a 7 or 9 inch screen!

Apple has been experimenting internally with large form tablet devices for years, one source says, but there was concern that users wouldn’t like the device. The difference now is the iTunes app store, which has thousands of games and other applications that are perfect for a touch screen device with an accelerometer. Apple says more than 300 million applications have been downloaded since the App Store launched in July 2008. Combine the App Store, iTunes and a browser and you have one heck of a device.

There is no information about pricing so far but I personally don't expect this new Apple tablet to be under $599.

iPhone Nano Rumored To Be Announced At MacWorld

So there are been lots of rumors lately about the launch of an iPhone Nano and these rumors appear to be more and more likely to be true...

According to iPhone Alley:

We just received word from a reliable source within Apple that they are in fact working on an iPhone Nano, and that it will be announced at Macworld. The source says that the iPhone Nano will most likely be similar in form-factor to the iPod touch, and will probably not include 3G.

What's your take on it?

iPhone 3G Unlock Coming Before New Year

A new rumor is circulating about a possible software unlock for the iPhone 3G sometimes soon after Christmas. This is just a rumor so don't get too excited but it is however true that the Dev Team has been progressing a lot towards this soft unlock.

This software unlock would be only available for 3G users that are still on 01.45.00 baseband, which is the baseband of firmware 2.0. Remember when I published my firmware 2.2 jailbreak tutorial? I warned you that this method would be good only if you didn't care about a future soft unlock. Well, this future soft unlock is now coming and if you haven't followed my warning, then you won't be able to unlock.

This is pure speculation at this time as there is no real evidence of a post-Christmas unlock release. I asked MuscleNerd (key Dev Team member) about it but it didn't comment whether it was true or not.

So, what do you think? Rumor or real info?

3G iPhone Mockups

There are some things we already know about the new iPhone: it will have GPS, it will work on the 3G network. One thing we don't know yet (at least until tomorrow) is what it's going to look like.

Wired listed 11 of the best and crazy iPhone designs from iLounge's contest. These mock-ups were designed by the readers of iLounge, which held a competition to find the best ideas for the new iPhone.

iPhone 2 to Be Sold “at Significantly Lower Prices”

The Financial Times is not like TechCrunch. Usually, when they say something, the information has been verified and is not a vague rumor spread out for the buzz...

The Financial Times said yesterday night that:

The new version of the Apple iPhone is set to be sold at significantly lower prices than the existing one, in a tacit acknowledgement by the US technology company that its previous sales strategy was not sustainable. Apple has bowed to pressure from mobile phone operators and agreed they can subsidise the latest iPhone, expected to be unveiled by Steve Jobs, Apple’s chief executive, on Monday.

A $200 dollar iPhone would sound really good to me. The only problem I would have with this is that anyone would have an iPhone. I like my iPhone because it's something that not everybody can afford. Now if everyone and anyone owns one, I won't feel different.
