Temple Run: Oz slides its way into App Store ahead of Friday’s flick release

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxUY3ucvwcQ

Imangi Studios, the brains behind the popular endless-runner game Temple Run, is no stranger to movie tie-ins. Just last June, they released Temple Run: Brave which uses content from Disney's Pixar animated feature film, 'Brave'. A much-improved sequel to Temple Run hit the App Store in January 2013, quickly becoming the fastest downloaded mobile game in history.

Today Imangi's second Hollywood tie-in is available for download as a universal build for iPhones and iPads. As the name suggests, Temple Run: Oz ties nicely with 'Oz the Great and Powerful', an upcoming fantasy adventure film directed by Sam Raimi and due to hit theaters this coming Friday, March 8...

The Croods: Official game hitting iOS on March 14

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sy51B9V8wNM

We have decided to stop telling you about Angry Birds content updates because of the excessive franchise milking, but this brand new game is worth mentioning. So Rovio teamed up with DreamWorks Animation on the official game for The Croods CG animated feature film.

The game is due for release on an Apple and Google app store near your on Thursday, March 14 and follows the Croods as they hunt and gather their way through "spectacular new landscapes as they tame fantastic and never-seen-before creatures," or so says the blurb. The above teaser highlights custom animation from DreamWorks and I've also included gameplay clip right below...

Real Racing 3 now available in the US App Store

It's been a long wait, but it's finally here. Real Racing 3 has officially landed in the US App Store as a free download. A couple of weeks ago, we spent some hands-on time with the game, and came away blown away by the graphics. Some of you guys might not dig the game's new freemium approach — an approach that ditches paying up front in favor of paying for in app purchases — but only time will tell if this negatively impacts the game's reception.

Real Racing 3 features tons of new cars, tracks, and all sorts of upgrades for your vehicle of choice. It's a polarizing title due to the fact that iOS' most popular racing game franchise has taken an abrupt turn towards the freemium model. But even if you don't appreciate the new approach, you owe it to yourself to download this game just to take in the visuals. Real Racing 3 is eye candy in its most concentrated form.

As promised, Star Wars Pinball from Zen Studios has arrived on the iOS platform, launching today as an add-on to the company's Zen Pinball (a free  universal binary download). Celebrating the launch, developers have released a new teaser trailer which highlights the intergalactic bounty hunter Boba Fett.

The previous trailer covered a table on the main deck of a Star Destroyer, based on the Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back movie. Each of the three tables is available as a separate $1.99 purchase from Zen Pinball. Zen Studios has pledged to release the game as a standalone download and we'll update the article with a link to that version as soon as it hits the App Store...

Rovio adds 36 new levels to Bad Piggies in ‘Road Hogs’ update

Last month, Rovio started hinting that a massive update for its popular Bad Piggies game was in the oven. The studio posted a teaser image to its Twitter account that read "Road Hogs, coming soon."

As you've probably guessed by now, that update hit the App Store today. And as expected, it's a big one. It features 3o new 'Flight in the Night' levels, 6 'Road Hog' levels, new achievements and more...

App Store and Google Play games top handheld entertainment

Is it game over for Nintendo, Sony and other handheld entertainment companies? That's the question as a report released Thursday shows consumers spent more on games downloaded from app stores than those designed for dedicated handhelds. Indeed, during the fourth quarter of 2012, more than 20 billion games were downloaded to smartphones and tablets. Perhaps anticipating today's finding, Sony announced Wednesday its new PlayStation 4 will support used games...

Plants vs. Zombies goes free, get downloading

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lr7sdmS_jWo

If you didn't download Plants vs. Zombies because it costs money, now there is no reason you shouldn’t pick it up because developer PopCap has for the first time slashed the popular casual strategy game to $0 on the App Store. From the people who also brought you Bejeweled, Peggle, Zuma and Bookworm, Plants vs. Zombies since its June 2010 iPhone debut has won more than 30 Game of the Year awards.

The game challenges you to soil your plants while battling zombies who are about to invade your home. Retina devices and iPhone 5 are supported and both iPad and iPhone builds are free now. A few screenies and additional description right after the break...

Sony announces PlayStation App for iOS and Android

Sony held a pretty big press conference last night, where it talked about its next-generation gaming console. And although the PlayStation 4 itself didn't actually make an appearance, the company offered a plethora of details about the system.

And shortly after the event, it added to the day's announcements by unveiling its official PlayStation mobile application. The app, which will land on both iOS and Android, will expand PS4 gameplay by offering a 'second screen' experience...

Sony “unveils” its next-generation gaming console, the PlayStation 4

After months of teaser videos, and years of speculation, Sony has just unveiled its next-generation gaming console, the Playstation 4, at its "See the Future" event in New York City.  That's right, it's supercharged, it's intuitive, it's social, and it's finally here.

This might seem a bit off topic for iDB, but with growing rumors that Apple's looking to add apps and games to its set-top box, you don't have to work very hard to create the connection. Not to mention, we love games too. So without further a do, here's the PS4...

Star Wars Pinball landing late-February

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOajo2uBvbE

If you can't get enough of Star Wars and have been yearning for something a bit more challenging and entertaining than Rovio's Star Wars-themed Angry Birds, here's some good news. Zen Studios Games has been hard at work putting finishing touches on their officially licensed pinball game dubbed Star Wars Pinball.

The trailer above highlights the Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back table which takes place - you guessed right - on the main deck of a Star Destroyer. Clearly inspired by the events of the film, it includes such memorable characters as Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, plus the inevitable battles with AT-AT Walkers and Tie Fighters...
