Samsung considering its own proprietary port to replace headphone jack on Galaxy S8

Although Samsung's latest Galaxy S7 flagship smartphone series proudly boasts the 3.5mm headphone jack, the South Korean conglomerate may also remove the industry-standard jack from its next-gen Galaxy S8, reports Digital Music News. Internally code-named “Dream” (Galaxy S8) and “Dream2” (Galaxy S8 Edge), these devices may replace the 3.5mm jack with a proprietary port.

The company is said to be “actively” and “aggressively” exploring the possibility of releasing a proprietary headphone jack to see how viable it would be.

Spotify hits 40 million paid subscribers

Spotify co-founder and CEO Daniel Ek said on Twitter this morning that the world's leading music-streaming service now has forty million paid subscriptions. “40 is the new 30. Million,” reads the tweet. The Swedish service has been ramping up its streaming business for quite some time as it prepares for an initial public offering (IPO) so this should be music to the ears of Spotify's investors.

Apple's iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are said to sport higher-capacity internal Lithium-Ion batteries than their predecessors.

No official battery capacity specs are listed on Apple's website, but they do say that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are supposed to get 2 and 1 additional hour(s) of battery life respectively, in what are supposed to be after effects of the new power-sipping A10 Fusion chip combined with the efficient iOS 10 firmware.

On the other hand, a higher-capacity internal battery may also have something to do with it.

Instagram rolls out keyword-based comment filtering

Instagram today announced it has rolled out a new anti-harrasment comment moderation tool in its refreshed mobile app for iOS and Android. This feature requires Instagram 9.3 for iOS, available at no charge from the App Store. In addition to comment moderation, Instagram 9.3 includes an enhancement for Stories where you can add color to your text by swiping the colors above the keyboard to revel more. Or, simply tap and hold a circle to select a custom color.

Google’s new app lets you capture three-dimensional panoramas on your iPhone and iPad

Google today released a brand new camera application on the App Store, allowing iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users to take three-dimensional panoramas in 360-degree freedom. The interactive VR photography app is called Cardboard Camera and in addition to capturing 360-degree images, it also lets you share VR photos online and enjoy them in virtual reality with Google's Cardboard and similar accessories along with VR photos taken by other people.

Professional photographer David Klutho took some stunning action photographs for the Sports Illustrated magazine at yesterday's Titans-Vikings NFL matchup. The images were taken with an iPhone 7 Plus and highlighted on Twitter by Apple CEO Tim Cook. The iPhone 7 Plus contains the same camera smarts as the 4.7-inch iPhone 7, except for the addition of a second lens with 2x optical zoom.

New Surface Pro 4 ad pokes fun of the Mac because it doesn’t have a touchscreen

Microsoft over the weekend fired another ad salvo at Apple's tablet/computer strategy with a new (somewhat) amusing commercial. Simple titled “Get the Surface Pro,” the 30-second ad highlights Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 hybrid device which includes a stylus and comes with a detachable keyboard and an Intel chip allowing it to be transformed into a computer that runs Windows, Office and other real desktop applications.

Using the same singer from the previous commercial, the new video informs us that “If you try to write on a plain old Mac, the difference can be seen. It doesn't work.”
