Bloombox Kickstarter project gives iPhone owners flower power

The iPhone has been everywhere -- your car, your bike, your backpack -- why not your flowerpot? A Kickstarter project is trying to raise the cash needed to build the Bloombox, a sleek combination of iPhone/iPod dock and natural habitat.

"The Bloombox was born out of the combination of my three driving passions and my own need for a dock," explains the creator, Brennan Conroy. The Kickstarter project has collected more than $3,000 towards its $5,000 goal for making a ceramic mold at Mudshark Studios...

Apple becomes most valuable publicly-traded company of all time

Apple's stock has taken down several major milestones in the past couple of days. Last Thursday, AAPL closed at an all-time high of $636.34 per share, and it has since surpassed its all-time high of $644.

Today, the stock is trading at a staggering $665. And given the fact that it has 937.41 million shares outstanding, that gives it a market cap of $623.05 billion — the highest ever for a publicly-traded company...

Judge tells jury: Samsung destroyed emails — but so did Apple

If the long-running courtroom battle between Apple and Samsung were a football game, the South Korean company would have received today a favorable call from the ref. U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh will tell jurors later this week that both companies destroyed emails, overturning a previous ruling inferring Samsung was solely to blame.

In instructions to be given the jury set to begin deliberations Wednesday, Koh will give identical instructions regarding company emails destroyed:

Both companies "failed to preserve evidence" that could be used in the litigation, Koh will say. "Whether this fact is important to you in reaching a verdict in this case is for you to decide."

Rovio to partner with Green Day for future Angry Birds release

If you thought Rovio teaming up with the folks of NASA to create Angry Birds Space was cool, wait until you hear this. The studio has just announced a new partnership with American punk rock band Green Day.

Green Day has sold over 65 million records worldwide, on the back of major hits like "Good Riddance: (Time of Your Life)" and "21 guns." So it's only right that they be forever immortalized as bad piggies, right?

CEOs to hold last-minute settlement talks in Apple-Samsung case

Surprise, surprise. The two companies that have been going at it in courtrooms around the world for the past year and a half, failed to reach any kind of settlement in their patent dispute this weekend.

In response to a suggestion by Judge Koh last week, attorneys from both Apple and Samsung met over the weekend in a last-ditch settlement effort before the trial gets handed over to the jury this week...

Question of the week: your thoughts on AT&T requiring shared data for FaceTime over Cellular?

When we first saw the message asking us to contact AT&T before we could enable FaceTime over Cellular, we knew something was up. Now the cat has been let out of the bag.

As it turns out, AT&T won't be charging for FaceTime over Cellular as if it were a separate feature, but it will require you to switch to their new shared data plan.

The amount of claimed leaked next-generation iPhone parts we're seeing is starting to get out of control. Yesterday we saw a purported dock connector for the handset, and now this.

The above photo is of what's believed to be a complete front panel belonging to Apple's next smartphone. It has the rumored elongated display, and a repositioned FaceTime camera...

Apple kinda responds to the SMS security flaw found in iOS

Yesterday we broke the news that our friend and iOS hacker pod2g had uncovered a major security flaw in the way the iPhone handles SMS. The exploit basically allows anyone to specify a different "reply-to" phone number when sending you a text message. You can easily imagine various scenarios of how this could be used maliciously.

Today, Apple sent a statement that doesn't necessarily makes us feel better about the exploit found, but which does insist on the fact that iMessage is more secure than standard text messages...

Quickly access iPod controls from anywhere in iOS with SpringMusic

By default, Apple only gives you three places to access your iPod controls in iOS: the Lock screen, the app switcher, and the actual iPod app. This works out fine in most cases, but some folks want more.

And that's where jailbreaking comes in. There's dozens of tweaks to access these controls from other places like the Notification Center, and Spring board. And today, we add another one to the list...

The Simpsons: Tapped Out back in App Store

You can almost hear Homer saying "Woohoo!" as The Simpsons: Tapped Out lands back in the App Store after its 6 month hiatus. As you may recall, EA released the game back in March of this year, but it was quickly pulled.

The reason behind the removal was to reduce the strain on EA's servers — they simply couldn't handle the traffic. But apparently all of the bugs have been worked out, as the game is once again available for download...
