iPod touch 6th generation receives the teardown treatment

The iPod touch 6th generation may have taken forever to finally arrive, but it took almost no time for the boys and girls over at iFixit to give it a proper teardown.

As we noted in yesterday's full review of the 6th-gen iPod touch, this device is a marked improvement over the previous generation, and features the same powerful A8 processor as the iPhone 6, and double the RAM of the 5th-gen iPod touch. But that's not all that's new in this refresh. Be sure to check out iFixit's teardown for a full breakdown of all of the music player's components.

Claimed photos of iPhone 6s rear housing picture small internal changes, ‘stronger body’ and more

A batch of photos of a purported 'iPhone 6s' rear housing in gold, obtained by Future Supplier and reposted today by French blog NowhereElse.fr, serve as our best indication yet that Apple's upcoming smartphone refresh will re-use the exterior design of the current-generation (shocker!).

More important than that, however, the photos suggest the upcoming handsets will introduce minuscule changes to the internal layout, with a source claiming a “stronger” Unibody construction and a change to the material's feel.

iPod nano/shuffle won’t store your offline Apple Music collections due to piracy concerns

There will be no transferring your offline Apple Music collections onto the new iPod nano or iPod shuffle because Apple is overly concerned about piracy, as it should be, and so the company's decided to play it safe instead.

As 9to5Mac discovered Friday, attempting to transfer Apple Music songs marked for offline playback onto your nano or shuffle via iTunes produces a “some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod because Apple Music songs cannot be copied to an iPod” message.

Of course, you can still sync your own songs that you imported into iTunes and music purchased on the iTunes Store, just like before, but Apple Music including songs marked for offline playback is off limits to the nano and shuffle.

Apple considering a switch to Apple Watch touchscreen technology for iPhones

Apple is rumored to be considering a switch to the Apple Watch's touchscreen technology for future iPhones as the firm is reportedly unhappy that in-cell panels that current iPhones use are struggling with touch sensitivity on screen edges.

While all iPhone models ranging from the original iPhone to the iPhone 4s were outfitted with the traditional glass (G/G) panels, Apple's engineers in 2012 switched to in-cell technology for the iPhone 5. Since the iPhone 5, all iPhone models have used in-cell tech.

In-cell technology eliminates a layer by building the capacitors inside the LCD assembly itself, which allows for a notably thinner appearance of the screen.

According to an analysis by DigiTimes Research based on supply chain data and market observers, a 2017 iPhone model (presumably to be called 'iPhone 7') is expected to make a switch to G/G, but the upcoming 'iPhone 6s' and 'iPhone 6s Plus' models are expected to still use the in-cell screen assembly process.

Reverting back to using G/G panels would let Apple add more features to iPhones, including ultra-sharp screens and nearly bezel-less appearance.

The feature makes it easy to snooze an email message to the day before the event, knowing your email will come back at just the right time. These enhanced snoozing capability is in addition to custom snooze times which were introduced back in March.

The Mesh makes you think about math in a whole new way

When it comes to mixing math and puzzle games, there are a few out there that have really made the grade. Threes! is a perfect example of a game that mixes mathematical mechanics with puzzle solving, and it's fun.

The Mesh is another numbers-based puzzle game that takes the concept of solving a basic equation and turns it upside down. To solve puzzles, you'll need to combine and clear numbers.

Be ready for anything with this five MFi certified Lightning cables pack

I used to have about a half-dozen extra iPhone charging cables lying around. I own about that many iOS devices. But, those were for the 30-pin ports. When the Lightning cable was introduced, my supply dropped to only two.

iXCC has a low-price five-pack of MFi certified Lightning cables in varying sizes. So, you can keep one in the car, one in the bedroom, one in your travel bag. Well, you get the point.

How to jailbreak the iPod touch 6th generation

One of the very first things that I tried when I got the iPod touch 6th generation (full review) was to jailbreak. To my surprise, both the PP jailbreak for Mac and the Windows-only TaiG jailbreak for iOS 8.4 worked out of the box. This surprised me because in times past, the tools used to perform the jailbreak needed to be updated to support new devices.

With the iPod touch 6th generation, this is not so; you can jailbreak immediately. In this post, I'll show you how easy it is to jailbreak your iPod touch 6 using the latest version of TaiG.

Download the new iPod touch 6th generation wallpapers

Ever since we posted our review of the 6th generation iPod touch, people have been asking me about the three new wallpapers that come included with the device. The new wallpapers are color-specific wallpaper for the new Gold, Blue, and Pink iPod touch 6th-gen units. In this post, we provide you with a link to download all three of the new wallpapers.
